Well, as technology advances and the pandemic effect continues to set in, production value will continue to increase and more quality content will be made with less money. There is so much going on with the movie industry right now, no one could have predicted this.

One thing I have noticed is many high profile actors are starting to take "lesser" roles. You see a lot of pretty good actors doing Netflix movies now, Amazon etc. Many movie actors are crossing over to television as well. This is a direct effect of the pandemic fucking theaters, as the big name actors still need to make money. So maybe the pandemic can have a two way effect. On one hand it sucks not being able to go to movie theater and have that experience, which also effects the way movies are made etc.

On the other, actors are going to have to compromise and start taking projects they normally would not have. That is good for us, as more quality acting will appear in lesser budget projects.

As far as Dune goes, it really is the "last" theater movie that didnt make it to the theater. Tenet made it to the theater, but the results were catastrophic. Them pulling Dune and waiting was a smart move honestly.

The lack of innovation in movie theaters compared to the massive progress home-cinema's and TV's have made makes me feel the theater industry might be in for its last decade.

Do you think thats a good thing though?

There is something special about going to a movie theater to watch a film you really been waiting to see. Some of my best memories as a kid was going to the movies. Not only that but the blockbuster model gave rise to the big time budget films, which in turn made it possible for design studios to create some of the most incredible CGI ever made, due to the vast amount of money available from the studios. Without that, there would have never been movies like Terminator 2, Jurassic Park, Avatar, Marvel movies, and a slew of other movies with incredible cgi that I cant think of.

JUST what can ADVANCE to the watching movie experience?

you have now almost all theatres with leather reclining seats with ESSENTIALLY no bad seats in the theatre like their used to be, 1080p min up to 4k(or higher for imax) screens, vibrating/moving seats in some theatres, some theatre screens do 3d, most screens have dolby/atmos/whatever sound the latest and greatest is in most screens etc. granted the concession prices are out of whack, but alot of theatres now have bars, restaurants etc.

the ONLY thing theatres have over most people's houses is....larger screen, better sound- and -potentially- more comfortable seats.

You think this is going to lead to increased production value?

Dude, we're going to end up with a YouTube channel for Tom Cruise doing his Jerry Maguire impression while asking you to "Like, subscribe, and make sure to hit that little bell icon to enable notifications". Russel Crow is going to start a backyard boxing empire in Dubai. The 2025 academy awards are going to be 85% animated films and they're going to end up including youtube videos by the following year.

I think its more like going out to eat. You dont go out to eat for the convenience or cost, you go out because you want the experience.

I just hit a 48 dollar steak the other night. It wasn't that good, you pay for the atmosphere.

lol.

netflix, Amazon etc have so much development capital there is no way that production quality just slides to shit. There is so much new TV content just in the past 2 years alone, now with people locked down with virus there is going to be an even larger audience as more people are watching tv.

The death of theaters is troubling, but that isnt going to lead to everything being shit.

Outside of Shark Tank and The Profit, I can't tell you one show that I watch that comes on "regular TV." Maybe I'll torrent one "regular TV" show per year. Everything I watch is Netflix / Amazon / Hulu / HBO. They release new content at ridiculous rates, and so many of their 10-13 episode shows are infinitely better than other shit that is available. Production quality has met cinema quality, in my opinion.

I'm fine going to the movie theater if there's no other option, we have the one with food and drinks, the food is totally fine, it's not amazing but it's no worse than any other chain restaurant. Reserved reclining seats, no crowds or lines, I'm fine with that. But, I infinitely prefer my home theater. I can use a food delivery service to order any food I want to my house, I have all the alcohol in the world, my couch is comfortable, my screen is 120" projector, I can put my hand down my pants, pause the movie to piss, rewind if I miss something (Tenet!!!), and watch things on my time, not the theaters.

There is something about some truly beautiful films, like Interstellar, I think you'd miss something not seeing it in a theater with the gigantic screen, but, isn't it basically the same to sit 10 feet from a 120" screen as it is to sit 60 feet from a giant movie screen?

Not everyone has such a nice set up lol.

I just have a regular 60 inch flat screen. I enjoy the theater every now and then, but I too would rather be home even without a super nice set up.

30$ after it's deemed SJW free otherwise it's Mulan status for me
To be fair, gender and race divides are a major reoccurring theme of the original series. Without getting into spoilers, it's a reason unique to the dune universe, and their form of discrimination is distinctly different than the [wrongly] perceived one of today, and it's much more subtle in the dune story and takes a while to catch onto. If Villenueve wants to play it correct, there are very distinct ethnic groups that some factions are intended to be, but modern day distinctions should be left out.

Look on the bright side: it's going to get a metric fuck ton of polish.

I can wait.
Or a metric fuckton of movie executive meddling.

"We ran a number of test screenings with a random focus group and a few Karens thought the worms were kinda gross. Can we change that to a big fluffy dog or something? Like they ride around on dogs? Also they didn't like thinking about the desert. Let's reshoot some scenes with lush oasis lands here and there on Arakkis. What's up with that Harkonen guy being so fat? Please reshoot with a buff bad guy. "

do we have anyone here who used to go to porno theaters in the 70s and 80s, i wonder what that looks like on the big screen

I tried VR porn a few times on my oculus rift and honestly it was disgusting, basically felt like giant 50 feet women towering over me. i only watched lesbo porn too, I'd probably burn my VR headset if a penis came on

smart play by Warner, by putting out a different movie every month (that disappears from the service for 6+ months) you get people to sub and stay subbed. Theaters are still fucked though, but at least they get a small number of people who will come out after day 30 when its nowhere.

Pirates win, get everything for free on day 1 in 4K HDR ATMOS.
