Well shit, I didn't realize there was a 5 day head start on this one. Was trying to figure out what to play for the next two weeks.
Oh, nevermind. It's $20 to play 5 days early? Fuck off.

And even more retarded, one of the "features" is you get access to DLC...which releases on launch day? So you've got DLC on game launch? Man, Funcom...what the fuck happened to you?

I'm sure if you rush just to get to the end production you can do it pretty fast. I do plan to explore and go a bit slower. I like finding uniques, getting all the intel etc.

Yeah, my guild is fairly large but I’ll be just utilizing them for dungeons. I’ll be solo or small grouped with a couple friends for everything else.

I’m not trying to burn through content.

I just think everything's going to turn into a shit show like Rust
like 12-13 years ago when the first incarnation came out and I had no life only going to college 2 days a week Rust was unbelievably hilarious and fun.

Friend and I started on a brand new server. Some faggot decided to make his base right next to ours and kept harassing/killing us every chance he would get. So we spend the next few hours building grenades, the only thing that could knock down walls at that point. Soon as the assholes logoff we hit their base.

The best part was being on when they logged back on.

As it should be. But it's very easy for one person to carry everyone else. Collecting materials at a certain point is really easy. As well as crafting items when you have access to all the machinery.

Exploration with others trivializes everything. Not to mention you can just walk in and loot everything after someone has cleared an area, including the corpses.

A lot of really good info in the live they did today when talking about mid and end game. Can't wait for this.

Shroud had a good q&a with them also. He specifically asked about those “China #1” ultra Zerg guilds that ruin a lot of these games - it sounds like deep desert mechanics will mitigate that to a degree. Faction cap balance in zones, friendly fire, lack of easy UI identifiers and large map size.

That's a huge lead and enought time to complete the game. I wouldn't play on a server that's 5 days old.

The main quest line takes you into PVP rather quickly. I predict tons of drama from it and people camping these quest areas. It's going to be a shitshow.

My prediction for this game.
A shiftiest launch with everyone rushing to do the same things. A clusterfuck of bases everywhere.
About a week or less after Jun 10th..
People getting butt hurt mad over the main story questline becoming PvP. This is one of the few places bored people will camp and grief, knowing that people have to go there for the Main Story Questline.
With base raiding not really being a thing. People will horde everything valuable into the PvE areas. The PvE area of the DD, then to the Basin during the weekly storm.
DD map rotation is limited to a few maps. People will figure out quickly what map is what. They already have. No need to guess or explore to know where anything is.
PvE people getting extremely bored, quickly. There are not enough variations in the POI's or things to fight. Most POI's are just copy pasted with human npcs with higher tier loot. The only real change is that they drop better loot. It gets very repetitive rather quickly.
A massive die off of the player base a little less then a month after launch. More than half the players.
A slight bump in players when/if they add in the Fremen faction.

Oh and don't forget all the glitches, dupes, and exploits in the game. That is going to cause lots of drama, and already has during the close beta.
I cant wait to read all the reddit rage and drama.

The MSQ isn't tied to the deep desert AFAIK. There is no full loot drop outside of a voted on rule change, which I have to imagine will change -very- quickly if people are using it to grief and the majority of players get angry. They did mention the landsgrad thing will change week to week in terms of what you do to get points, so I have to imagine they will mix up voting options as needed as well.

In terms of longevity, hard to say. A lot of these games attract a PVE audience and a PVP audience, but it is extremely hard to make both happy. PVE usually expects regular updates and looking at their DLC slate, even though they mentioned there would be story updates outside of the DLC, there could be a risk of content droughts. Once Human made the mistake of thinking their playerbase would be PVP mostly like in China, but the west usually gravitates towards PVE more, so they got caught with inadequate PVE content.

PVP make their own content, but once you get hackers and exploits in a game, that can kill your audience. The combined arms fighting might be cool, although it sounds like at launch it will mostly be air and infantry (no tanks until later)

For those who are wondering what the best starting class is.

It's Bene Gesserit Acolyte, by far, also pick up Trooper. This will make your life so much easier getting around in the early game. Being able to climb ( Trooper, shigawire claw ) easily and sprinting ( Bene, Bindu Sprint) across the desert like a mad man."
Also, Just drink blood in the beginning. No need to worry about collecting or turning blood into water. Drinking blood gives a small meaningless debuff to max health. Which fades away quicker than the benefit of having full water.

It's not technically DD, but.. it kind of is. it's on the overland map. As soon as you get to the part of having to go to the crash site, then the whole main story becomes full blown pvp and its going to be great watching that shitshow unfold.

the Hephaetous wreck, and water shippers, are both open PvP areas, both are MSQ areas.

They are going to test out private servers this weekend or Monday. Hopefully the game will launch with them, or come very soon after.

I'm curious if the private servers will just be private Hagga Basin or like the whole server architecture from Hagga to Deep Desert.

If it is just Hagga, that would probably be limited use except for maybe reserving the whole thing to ensure everyone in your guild can play in the same Hagga Basin or if you wanted to do a RP server thing or whatever

Private servers will share a DD map with other private servers only, and they will be coming in a post launch update.

There are spice spawns in the Basin, which are easier to get to than the ones in the DD.

Not having to deal with all the other players cluster fuck of buildings would be the best part of having your own Basin. It gets annoying quickly having to keep driving around other peoples shit shacks. They don't decay fast enough if someone stops playing.
