Well for me, I watched the first Dune movie and never really understood what was going on. Never watched the second. The original I forgot. I just got this because it looked cool and so far definitely is. Looks great too on my new rig.

I have no idea who is even being talked about 😀 So I guess I just like survival games and the mmorpg combo.

Ark has had years and started out quite shit FYI. Compare this with launch Ark and it blows it out of the water.

This game didnt get a lot of advertisement. So it will grow by word of mouth. I have a feeling it will live or die by the end game. If the end game is any good, people will talk about it and it will grow. From that video above, it seems like its got plenty with more to be added.

One thing im finding a pain in the ass so far is having to rebuild your base all the fucking time, or at least until you get the copter. And with that moving all of your shit you collected too, or jsut leaving it behind which is a total waste of time. Or your stuck traveling to BFE every time you stock up on shit. I know this goes away when you get the chopper, but still its not until like end of the mid game. It would profit from some kind of portal system or some shit. I know its not in the whole Dune lore to have any type of portals so there is that. But its a huge bummer. Or it would be nice to just literally move the base somehow without having to grind up all the mats and all the shit again for the copy. Just make a damn literal copy for some cash or some shit instead of just copying the blueprint.

This is also why most people just build fucking boxes, until end game lol.

I barely built something in the first zone, then made my 2nd my main base when you cross the gap. It sits between all the things I need. Iron for steel, aluminum for t4, then jasmine crystals for t5. After that everything is in deep desert. Buggy can go out for the first 2, then use copter for the last thing. Its the main thing I learned from the little weekend open beta. Dont build right away when you enter vermillion gap, but go farther up north and west of that zone or slightly into the next, so you are in the middle of all the things you need. This way I dont need to move at all and first base was kept minimal on purpose since the story makes you abandon it.

right now I have a base near iron and one near aluminum. It’s not far between the two and once you get the ornithopter your travel issues become almost non existant. Give it a bit of time and you’ll be zooming all over.

You remember correctly, Ark was almost unplayable and optimized so poorly it was crashing systems, and when Ascended released, it still had the same issues, and still does. Ark is the best, worst game you'll play. Its super entertaining...when its not being a pain in the dick.

As far as Dune goes, I'm far from a major fan. The movies were decent, the first book was great and I didn't like many of the ones that followed. I am, however, a fan of survival games and its what I play the most. This game isn't flawless, it has a few bugs that need attention but overall its release has been smooth and I enjoy the fact you don't need to PvP to contribute to the end game (I'll do both). I'm excited to see what the 3rd faction will be and how they intend to use it to balance future Landsraad issues. I'm excited to see where end game goes and to see the content coming they have planned. Right now, its doing what its supposed to do and its doing it well.

I'll continue to play until it’s not fun anymore. However long that is, we will see I suppose.

The most important factor imo. People get too emotionally involved in finding something that will last them months or years. Stop. Decide first if you think you will get your money's worth in hours played from initial purchase, then just keep playing until you stop having fun. That's all that should be in your head.

All this worry over endgame/longevity is weird. Reminds me of my younger days, every friend group had the 1 guy that went who went looking for a wife right from the very first date onwards, instead of just dating and if it happened to turn into that, great. If not, oh well and move on. Worse here, because these are just video games, not your life.

Granted I think a lot of this forum is a bit biased from first EQ for years and then WoW for years. So they are always chasing that same high.

You get 3 bases - best bet is make bases near the trade posts. Even before you get the chopper, you can use the vehicle backup tool to store your sand bike, then pay the taxi person 700 solari to travel to another tradepost in Hagga Basin. Helps cut down on time taken to go back and forth between bases until you get better vehicles. I would say you probably want 2 bases in Hagga - one near aluminum and one near whatever (2nd noob area near Anvil tradepost is good - central location near different zones and you can build up your base there as you level through steel and stuff to get your buggy). Save your third base slot for deep desert so you have a staging area/somewhere to store shit in the PVE strip so you can go back out again. I'll usually fly out, get stuff to make the highest tier metal and maybe spice if I come across a big patch of it, fly back to my FOB to dump it, then head back out. If you're solo, you don't even need to be fancy - maybe a chem station to make fuel for your vehicle, basic fab and ore units if you need to make copper stuff, some storage boxes (bring some iron bars to make the tier 2 storage), and maybe a small water tank

I really like survival games, so I got this last night to test the waters and so far I'm digging it.

I've been playing WoW hardcore with four other life long buddies, but it looks like we're switching over to this. Just waiting on one of our slacker friends to upgrade his PC.

We were having a blast playing hardcore WoW, but it got a bit tedious with one friend who kept fucking dying...oddly enough it's the same dude with a potato for a PC.

Dune looks like it will be a nice change of pace for us.

Enter the construction menu and its in the utilities/placeables tab called "Pentashield Surface Vertical".

If you want to make it bigger than a single block, click and drag it when placing it to make it larger.

I think that's my only complaint so far. The research and crafting windows are cluttered messes. Hard to make sense of anything.

Yea the UI isn't really that intuitive, but after gooning out to Conan Exiles for hours on end it's somewhat familiar to me.

One thing they need to update is “circuits”. Left side is input, right is output. But it isn’t labeled and the game doesn’t really explain it while you level. Circuits become useful later if you start mass refining stuff and need overflow to go to boxes

Also let me hit f1-f5 or w/e to switch seats in my vehicles. Holding F and switching between driver and laser for mining buggy with mouse movement, is just not fun.
