But game design wise, there's nothing worse than forcing people into going full swarm mode over that one ressource being arbitrary mandatory for anything.
I’d like to think the people making this kind of game are smarter than that and this is more of an issue of dev running out of time to implement what should have been.

However they fucked up whether it was running out time/money or straight up incomptence.

With that said I’m pretty much playing solo at this point and still enjoying myself for what it is, but I see the train wreck of fuck this coming after witnessing what is in store for me with their “end game”.

the spice issue on my server kind of 'solved itself' my guild did do a fair few spice runs in the DD, but earlier in the day when the greifers are asleep. using expendible choppers and minimal gear. we built out most of hte machines.

i personally had been experimenting with running station 60, you can get about 100 spice sand every 45m or so on respawn. without doing the dungeon again. so i did that for a bit while playing mario or whatever with the kids.

at some point i sold all the assorted buggy parts and heavy weapons ...and as it turns out my auction house had spice malange (not sand) up for like 1700 solari. and all them buggy parts and shit i vendored gave me enough money to buy plenty. so then i just made sure to loot valuable things while out and about and vendor them. sold some jolt sword schematics from the PVE DD. each volt sword schematic went for like 90k, which got me all the spice i needed without having to fret about the DD.

with thte lack of active PKers, there's likely some super sperg using the harvesters in the AM and reaping in giant mountains of spice to sell for plumeting prices.

I collect 10k spice every morning in about 35 mins , have the large spice refinery and the large ore. Definitely some frustration around PVP and the DD but it has been manageable. I hate the PVP but at the same time I like making rules that minimize my risk for myself and they work surprisingly well.

Griefers being able to see rendered the collection of spice at a much greater distance than players and copters is prime issue. They can then come in on a glide path knowing exactly where you are prior to ever seeing you. That puts attackers at a significant advantage.

I try to combat that by collecting during the plume this hides the circle forming that can be seen from so far away. They can't fire rockets early because they can't see me or my copters exact location. Timing this can be annoying when the plumes are too far apart.

As an update to my Hagga abandoned base story, I had been checking on the base every day and dismantling some things or taking things at risk of collapse. A huge portion of the structure was really low Hp yesterday evening, which meant a large portion of the base would have collapsed today

So I go over there yesterday and find some people walking around in the base. I tell them it was abandoned and they’re like no it isn’t! Turns out it was a huge guild base and a good chunk of them had taken multiple days off. They have no idea why the console was missing, so either it was a cheater/exploiter or someone accidentally broke it is all I can guess. There was lots of valuable stuff there, so I don’t think it was a thief (or they only took limited stuff anyways)

I gave back pretty much all of what I took, which they were appreciative of. I’d still like to know what exactly happened at that base, though.

I think they never tested for deleted characters. Everytime I deleted and made a new character things got more and more messed up. By #5 or so I could only have 1 base, and could only see or get into 1 of the guild's bases.

There's probably people that make a character and inherit some former person's permissions.

100 hours in and today I find you cant travel to the world map w/ people in your orni? That's dumb. Was going to take a friend who is only just entering the buggy stage with me to pay taxes, and it wont let you take others with you on the world map?

Unrelated, he also found that even if you build over the top of quicksand, vehicles will sink through the floor and be destroyed, as he watched his buggy, which he'd just built earlier that day, get swallowed up. He was going to build a bridge over it for people to use or something. I suggested maybe he just wall it off instead, lol. Surprised it's not a building-blocked area since that seems like a permanent-ish spot of it. I wasn't there when it happened, so don't know if he just did something wrong, if he was using foundations or just some low flooring, or what.

After AOC and The Secret World, which were good/GREAT games but plagued by bugs and FUNCOMism™; I decided to sit this one out until it got through Beta/Early Access and had completely forgot about it until they sent me a survey the other day. Glad to read they are living down to their past reputations.

Damn, can someone just not suck in 2025?

The end-game is definitely lacking, but you easily get 100-150 hours of a very fun and immersive representation of Arrakis.

Ya, don't be run off by complaints about the end game. There is a really solid game before then that you can, as Blitz mentioned, get 100+ hours of enjoyment out of

Yeah, I've gotten 100 hours and I've barely done any of the story / quest stuff. I ran through and did the trials, but my rep is only at level 2 w/ Atreides, and I only just went to the Harkonnen city for the first time last week, lol.

Once they do finally let you self-host a private Hagga Basin I'm looking forward to running through much of it again with friends who will finally make the jump.

I agree that the game is totally worth it even with endgame lacking. I've played for about 120 hours and enjoyed it a lot. I'm kinda on pause now but would still buy again. Its fun.

Also, finally getting an Ornithopter has to be one of the most rewarding upgrades in a MMO since...WoW flying mounts? It just re-calibrates your brain on what's possible. Lots fun.

I agree that getting an ornithopter feels incredibly rewarding, but that's also about the time the game started to fall off for me.

Before it, the game world felt challenging and vast. After it, you just start checking boxes for finishing things.

Yeah, a similar thing happened with WoW and flying mounts. It's best to save that type of stuff for the "end game", when it's really just about checking boxes anyhow. But the issue becomes going forward, Pandora's Box is now opened and people are going to expect that method of travel from then on.

It's a really tough design issue to get around in MMORPGs.

I made a 2nd character on another server to play with some friends. They’re more PvP oriented so it’s been fun trying to kill Attreides players. Yesterday we killed a couple Attreides at titanium island in deep desert and a Zerg Attreides guild showed up with like 12 armed ornithopters lol

Server is like 90% Attreides, so we leave Harkos alone

Why is Atreides the leading faction or is that just my one off experience?

I was expecting a bunch of emos larping as Harkonnen. Not that I really cared either way, but I did find it surprising that there seemed to be a lot of other Atreides running around.

General consensus is most servers are Attreides heavy

As to why, anyone's guess. They're the "good guys" so that attracts a bit, esp on PVE

Yea I think both factions are interesting from a story standpoint and I don't mind playing evil. I listen to true crime murder porn all day and can still appreciate a big titty goth girl.

I just wasn't sure if the imbalance was purely surface level aesthetics or there was some underlying game mechanic.
