I reeeeallly need Dinniman to not let fame get to him and just finish the fucking series. If he can even moderately stick the landing then it will go down as one of the best sci-fi/fantasy series of all times.

He said he is done at 10 books. 8 is already pretty much in the can.

As someone who read the books all in a row last year the quality declines the last few and to me it seemed he was letting it get to him already. It’s shocking how much the book became Carl watching girl bosses get things done compared to where it started.

He’s noooooowhere near as bad as Sanderson has gotten with therapy chronicles, so I’m not hating… yet.

I agree. First 3 or 4 were way better than the last 3. He's not going to stick the landing.

Book 8 has a release date of 5/12. Also, you fudge packers are high. Book 5 is the best in the series so far.

Holy fuckballs. Apparently the audiobook version has outsold the physical books for this series. I don't get that. I love letting my imagination fill in all the details like that when I read. That said I don't listen to talk radio or podcasts either, so that's probably a me thing.

Yeah while the later books feel different from the earlier books, I don’t really think their quality is lower. And as moon said, book 5 (floor 6) is phenomenal. I considered book 7 very good too, floor 9 was nuts.

Part of me wishes he’d do another 7-9 books that would see us all the way to floor 18, but given the way the lore works I understand why he has no interest in trying to do that. If books 8, 9, 10 give us floor 10, 11, 12 respectively, I think I will be happy. Floor 12 is something I want to see, the Ascension sounds hilariously chaotic and insane.

I bought the first 2 audiobooks for a sort of reread. It didn't get close to just reading them.

I never once thought “oh he’s just having her do it for girl boss scene” because everyone in the book is basically a god compared to a regular person with all the items and abilities and stat boosters they have, men and women (and cats and alligators).

Totally disagree about the quality declining. I could understand not liking a particular setting or something, like I didn’t care for the trains. Also didn’t really like the card battles as much. The quality stayed good the whole series so far. Hopefully he keeps that up and sticks the landing.

Have you tried it? You can get the first one free on audible.

It's more like a radio play than an audio book. Different characters have different voices and it's all very well produced. They even have some "celebrity" guest voices. Critical drinker was awesome!

I am not an audio anything person. If I am focusing on sound it disrupts my focus. I am fine with background noise and music, but trying to just listen to something doesn't do it for me. I end up finding something else to do, like playing games. Books I have always loved. TV and movies I can do. Like I said, I don't listen to talk radio at all. I tune out immediately when the DJs start talking or commercials start up on radio stations.

This series ruined me for other LitRPG. I was recommended Overpowered Wizard, and it was the first book in 15 years I could not finish. It was trash. So trash I actually wrote a bad review on Amazon for the first time ever.

I will also never listen to the people that recommended that ever again. I recommended Dungeon Crawler Carl to one of my coworkers, and he thought it was one of the best series he ever read.

Btw Matt sent the book into the publisher yesterday. He said it was originally 230k words chopped down to 192k. Said the book will probably end up being 175k. He also said the he is going straight into book 9.

Patreon will get the epub next week, hope it's finished format is better than what little I read. It's just hard to follow up something like faction wars that was hyped for 6 books. Only read about 15 chapters before I decided to stop and wait for the full release.

To each their own.

I like listening to audio books while driving, doing chores, working out, watching my kids at the park etc, basically anytime my hands and eyes are occupied but my mind isn't.

Yeah audiobooks are great for highway drives, mowing, taking a shit, etc. Good for falling asleep to, they knock me right out. They’re not good when you need real focus, you just can’t process them. Reading and audio both have their place for me.

Yup. Everyone's brain handles sensory input differently. That's why some people are better at learning via reading. Some are better at learning via oral instructions. Some hands on. Etc etc.

He could keep going after finishing 10 books and finishing the dungeon. He said he's written tons of back stories for characters that never made the books. If he needs another pull off of the DCC teet he could always go back and write / release those stories.
