Book 3 is quite a slog so far, not sure why…

Lotta people say that but I didn't see it. Let me ask, are you trying to figure out the iron tangle? He has a warning at the start of some editions of the book to not try to figure it out. It's supposed to be incomprehensible. TBH, I don't think Matt had it mapped out. I'm seeing a lot of people getting bogged down with that. Maybe because I listened to the audio book, it never activated my tism.

I rank is as one of my top 7 books in the series.

Yeah, it's definitely some of that and I also kind of feel like the beginning just started really slow after the really good ending for book 2 and was reading back to back to back. It's picking up a bit towards the end now - probably just needed a reset (read two different books between mid book 3 and now finishing book 3).

It's fun and easily digestable.

The tangle bogged me down. He warns you not to try to figure it out so I didn’t, but it got talked about a lot. So every time they’d be talking about it I’d be thinking why the fuck is this even in here if it doesn’t matter.

I think what matters about it is that it's all a big political cartoon about the apothecary. Or the krakaren. I can't remember if they're the same.

Yeah.

Since the series was announced, “Carl” fans have been debating whether the live-action format is the right move here. Dinniman understands the concern, but he makes the case for why he’s willing to give it a shot over animation (though MacFarlane is certainly no stranger to an animated show).

“It’s kind of funny. A lot of the more hardcore nerdy fans — I mean, like I am — will say, we want it animated. And then I think actually the majority of people who aren’t into animation are going to say, we want a live action,” Dinniman said. “If you actually poll people out on the street, it’s going to be a pretty high number of live action. But that’s really high risk, high reward, because we’re not going to do it if it’s gonna look like absolute shit. And they will do CGI testing on Princess Donut and stuff like that. And that’s all I can say, I think. It’s all gonna hinge on what it looks like. But Fuzzy Door, specifically, if you watch ‘Ted’ or ‘The Orville, ‘you’ll see that they know what they’re doing when it comes to this. So I would say, don’t knock it till you try it.”
I don't judge an author for wanting to see their creation in live action. They've been looking at drawings of their work for their entire career like the below

No matter how great those drawings might be, when they finally make it big and get a real budget to do something, do they really want to just see those drawings move? I think they want to see it come to life with real people and a huge project even if for every ground-breaking LotR movie there is an Eragon flop movie.

The argument Matt made about reaching a larger market is also pretty compelling, but I'd bet the real reason is wanting to see where his creation can go.

I think that's especially true if he's following the One Piece live action show which is absolutely stellar and more of an ambitious adaptation than DCC.

I don’t judge him for it I just think it’s a bad decision. After two decades of marvel cgi I’m not hopeful this could be good. The whole damn thing would be cgi except for like, Carl and one or two other people who stayed human.

last book spoilers inevitable ruin
so in the audio version the AI sounds like it is breaking down, voice changes mid sentence, this only happens briefly before the kill the nagas, it never happens again, no one talks about it or even seems to notice. Is this an audio thing only?

I’ve heard that in other audiobooks. I believe it’s just they had to do a retake of certain lines and spliced it in so it sounds different. Unless that’s actually happening in the book and they did it on purpose, idk.
