There is a theory out there that Carl lost the Cookbook due to the inventory swap and Donut's comment about what's this cookbook doing on your hotbar." Interesting if true, though at this stage I'm not really sure it has much impact.

I worried about that for a brief moment but I don't buy it. It's not like donut didn't know he had the cookbook. She was there when he won it. I don't think she can see the hidden text without the escape plan skill so even if she had time to try to read it, she would have gotten nothing. She might suspect something is up with the book. I'd have to re-read it's introdcution but I thought he was only in trouble if he told anyone about it. Not if someone got sus on their own through no fault of his. I think the only way he might lose it is if people on the outside take note of what she said and start digging into it. I do think it would be smart for them to play up the idea that random things were added to the hotbars during the attack. Particularly his since he had an expanded hotbar.
Edit
However, if the organization running this season begins to suspect that this book is more than it appears, or if you tell anyone about the existence of this book, the information within will erase, and you will forever lose access to the hidden text.
UCC Distributing is heading back to San Diego Comic-Con 2026 with another massive lineup of exclusives and collectibles at Booth #5613 — the same prime spot as previous years, located against the back wall and accessible via aisles 1300, 1200, or 1100. If you’re navigating from the entrance...

Samantha is the thing that Juice Box turned into at the warlord meeting that freaked everyone out? People seem to think she has to have touched it to become it. When she touched Samantha the first time in GFG her eyes went wide. I dismissed it because we know she can also become people from a picture (like Epitome tag's sexy mother). But I reread Samantha's recap at the start of PoH, and I realized that bitch don't even know what she is.
Also is anyone else reading the chapters as they drop on patreon? If you want spoilers from the prologue lemme know. A couple of interesting things happened.

I write this having just completed books 1 - 7 over the past couple of months. I won't exactly be checking the thread anytime soon because I am about to dig into 8 and don't like risking spoilers.
I had previously passed over this series because, after reading the synopsis, it came off as a meme culture cash grab. "Hey guys, the cat is named the Queen Anne Chonk, isn't that funny?!". Then DCC was recommended to me by a collegue and I gave it a shot. Boy was I ever wrong.
At a high level, this fills a niche I didn't know I had. Reading through this series, experiencing the boss battles, the achievements, the loot boxes, etc. gives me the same dopamine hit as playing a game. It also leans into absurdity really well and, similar to an anime, will have sillyness but when things get serious, they get serious.
I think my favorites so far would be similar to everyone else, 5 > 7 > 6 as a top 3. Butcher's Masquerade was just great front to back, Inevitable Ruin also great, and I come from an MTG nerd back ground so the CCG game was fun in the Bedlam Bride.
The only 'negative' so far is my ability to follow the story / characters and what is happening. The Plenty, the Apothecary, the Eulogist, various gods, various figureheads for the nations, etc. Have a tough time keeping up so will have to read again I am sure.
The books made me feel feelings, not often, but was unexpected. Watching the Carl / Donut relationship be revealed and evolve is quite endearing.
During one the initial few books (Doomsday Scenario perhaps) there was a point when Donut said something like "I know shes dead" referencing Bea and that little part showed it was going to get more serious. The continued reveal that Carl actually cared for Donut more than Bea did kept those vibes going.
Thankfully they minimized the Bea arc as I didn't want her back in the picture really. When Donut was giving her the tongue lashing, "You are not my person anymore. Carl is my person and he always has been", ooph, right in the feels.
One of the scenes that nearly caused grown man tears was in the Bedlam Bride. When Tserendolgor was explaining to Carl he was now a symbol and chose to die rather than fight him (also passing on Rend) and that is how everyone felt really hit home.
Also, towards the end of the Inevitable Ruin when Lucia Mar entered the tower and Carl went autopilot and forgot the world to get to her, quite touching.
The books also had there fair share of goosebump moments, mainly Inevitable Ruin, as I love a good charge scene. I also quite like their inside baseball names of move combinations, they are fun.
In the intitial portions of Inevitable Ruin when the base was getting overrun and Donut rallied the troops. The "Rohirrim, to the King" moment lead by a giant tutu wearing dinosaur was fun to picture. Or even just the trench warfare to the tune of Killing in the Name of with strobe lights going off.
As for characters, I feel like I lost a bit of the magic starting the series after 7 books are out. Due to it still being a series and some cover art you kind of know you don't have to worry about some folks. But it is pretty brutal otherwise as, well, most of them are going to die.
Big fan of the usual suspects Prepotente, Samantha, Elle, etc.
The moment when they find out the Naga was in charge of the show that killed Miriam and they were going to have to deal with Prepotente was awesome.
There were two items on my mind from the Inevitable Ruin that may be explained or I may find out by reading further into the spoilers in the thread when I am done with 8.
Carl never seemed to do anything with the celestial boon from Emberus? He had magic hands the whole time and didn't seem to do much with it.
Hopefully there will be more on the AI breakdown around "We.All.Have.Our.Limits." when he was getting 'relationship' advice from Donut.
