The only volcano manor stuff I’ve found is the dead end main entrance to talk to the lady and other npcs, and the death portal that sends you to the torture dungeon with the duo torture engine boss. Not sure where this is you’re talking about.

I found it easier to go to leyedell capital, kill the tree sentinal and go in the city, there is 2 down in a cave or something. I couldn't make the volcano manor jump for some reason. I should try the boss.

How do you attack with both weapons at once like he's doing? I've tried dual-wielding and it seems like you can only hit with one, then the other, not both at once. I've seen people with two Ultra Greatswords in Souls 2 swinging both at once and I never knew how that worked either. Course I also haven't spent any real time on this either because I'm pretty reliant on quick shield blocks when I don't think a roll will work.

Dual-wielding blood weapons is pretty appealing but I think I'll stick with Moonveil/sorcery. I never really got to do anything with the Sword of Night and Flame either. There's also a Paladin build with the final boss sword and high Faith. ...geez, you could play this game for a thousand hours, easy.
Any 2 of same type, then L1, 2 daggers, 2 ultra swords etc. It is called power stance.

Anyone else notice how like all of the major bosses in this game have names that start with R, M, or G?

It's like how James Cameron's movies all seem to start with either T or A

Re-order your letters. G, R, and M. George R.R. Martin. He's so lazy he can't even use letters that aren't in his own name.

Yeah, you need two weapons of the same type for dual wielding to do the power stance attacks. Dual Uchigatanas are one of the best because a lot of katanas have the bleed effect by default, but then you can make them Blood Uchis on top of that. You have to start with a Samurai though to get the Uchi to start with, then get a second one.

I started as a Wretch, so ended up just using two straight swords instead.

The trick with it is to jump later than you think you should and aim for the right edge rather than exactly at the corner. Took me a few tries before I could do it consistently. Long after I'd already killed the boss and got the stone, but at least it'll be useful for the next playthrough.
60 Vigor, 40 Mind, 30 End, 80 Int, 16 Str, Dex as high as it'll go. 16 Str so that I can still use the Brass Shield even if I unequip the Soreseal for whatever reason. 3 talisman slots is killin' me as a caster.
Yeah, if I was 200ish I'd definitely dump the Soreseal just to avoid having two different talismans that increase damage taken. Doubly so if I was lacking a whole talisman slot to begin with.

That way I'd be able to run magic scorpion, shard of alex, carian crest, and have a situational slot for whatever I need at the time. If you are still using soreseal you should definitely never go above 55 vigor though. Adding 5 points to 60 vigor (more or less hardcap) only gets you 30 more hp. Even 55->60 is fairly shitty, just 86 hp added.

Impossible to say. They say that he created a standardish high-fantasy world that was like, Game of Thrones + gods/magic and then they "shattered" it with a cataclysmic event. You play in the 100+ish? year aftermath of that shattered world. But how much influence he had is totally unknowable to anyone but the people involved.

There are parts that feel more grounded in the politics and betrayal that ASOIAF has than than the metaphysical dread usually in soulsbourne games, but it's difficult to say whether that is due to GRRM or just them wanting to have more tangible plotlines or diversity in a massive world.

I was going to comment that all the various factions vying for Elden Lordship felt like GRRM’s influence. That’s not really a thing from prior From games.

DS1 had the Catarina knight with his Onion Knight Armor, and I always suspected that was a subtle reference to GoT's "onion knight" character. The only thing about ER that I thought had JRRM's influence are those knight caravans you see in various places. I don't know if it really was but a bunch of knight escorting some carriage with important people or loot seems like such a GoT thing instead of a Souls thing.

The story itself is a pretty cookie-cutter souls affair and I'd say Bloodborne has a much better story, so whatever JRRM did he didn't even come close to beating Bloodborne's story/backstory if you ask me.

My one expectation for ER going in, after completely ignoring all early videos of people playing the network test, was that cinematics and NPC dialogue were going to actually make sense during my first playthrough. Nope, not even close, if anything it's even more cryptic and confusing than past games.

This, there are a LOT of different people with different motives running around in this game. Previously your choices (until Dark Souls 3) was Link the Fire, Let It Die. Here the game has like 7 different endings, depending on whose side you wish to take. Some only vary slightly by how you want the restore the world after becoming Elden Lord. Others change the world drastically.

Rountable Hold feels a lot like Bloodborne's Hunter's Dream.

Tarnished are pushed their by unknown forces and given the mission to restore the Elden Ring. Hewg the Blacksmith is an actual prisoner in this place as he says. Chained to the wall. He prays to Marika one time you come across him and he is asking if he has done enough to stop being a prisoner.

So it seems that the goddess Marika is the one doing all of this. Somehow.

Yeah I just did this, watched and copied a successful jump from youtube so got it on my 2nd try.

Then somber stone 8 and 9 are just outside Caelid Divine Tower and are retard easy to get after getting to Volcano Manor and doing part of it.

I'm assuming you can't get a +10 until the snow area and you need to do the capital to access it?

There are probably more than 20 memory stones, spread out all over the place. I already had 10+ by the time I made it to the big city. Never explored the last 2 or 3 zones after it, nor half of the city, so probably missed a few, here and there.
I think you're talking about something else here. Memory stones are for spell slots and you can only hold 8 of them (for 10 slots max, unless you use a talisman too) and that's exactly how many there are.

I haven't tried this myself because it'd require going online, but there's an ancient somber in Mohgwyn Palace that you could probably get to super early with Varre's quest and some lucky enemy dodging.

How do invasions work? I'm level 102 now and 65 or somesuch hours in, just finished Volcano manner and done all of the bottom map and most of the scarlet area (2 or so dungeon bosses I noped out on). Never been invaded. Not that I mind, I hate it. I want to explore by myself, but at the same time, I like having the phantoms and messages (even though most of them are useless). So I've been online all the time, but only invasions so far are the NPC ones. Are there areas where people gravitate to? Or is it level specific perhaps? I've probably been over leveled for a long time. I watched some streamers do it and not go above 35 for Stormcastle. I was closer to 50 when I finally did that.

I reset my stats at level 70 from int/dex(int heavy) to now high int and fai, so I could use that Sword of Night and Flame, but I'm not really feeling it. What's a good Faith weapon that pairs with STR or DEX? Think I might reset one more time and ditch INT altogether.

Also, how is this game so fucking big? How can anyone accept some of the absolute low effort dogshit games that come out, after something like this. It reminds me a lot of Witcher 3 in that regard. So much game for one price. No store. No microtransactions. No bullshit. It's just an awesome game, made by people who love what they do, and it really shows in everything. They could have just pulled the big dungeons and called it Dark Souls 3, but it's so much f'ing more. It's just nuts.

There's items that 'invite invasion'. I'm guessing people using those get priority over random schlubs just minding their own business. I'm not entirely sure, though.

You can only be invaded if you use the fingercalling item that lets you see co-op summon signs. That essentially "turns on" multiplayer and invasions.

Ah, my bad. I didn't actually launch the game and look. After doing that, just now, I have 8 and I guess there were no more left to find, in the areas I didn't get to.

Using the annoying scrolling through spell slots UI, to select a spell, makes it feeeeeal like you have 14+ spells loaded up...

I know. It's crazy in size.

Seems to me that as opposed to having a Side B like Chalice dungeons they just put every single fucking thing they made into the game somewhere. The jaw dropping stuff is the effort they put into completely optional bosses and side content. Things you can both miss very easily or require some convoluted means of finding it in the first place. AAA studios would never do something like that. As on paper it would be just wasted money.

Couldn't agree more, I'm at like 65 hours played and just got to Margott last night, I did kill the adjucators after being warped to volcano area, and just killed the lightning Tree Sentinel, which, btw, is cheesy as fuck with the lightning bolt. You have to dodge perfectly to avoid it, seemed like if I was off a split second I still took a secondary hit after dodging the initial blast.

Started jousting his ass for phase 1 just to speed it up, but definitely felt amazing when I killed him. For whatever reason, Margot is kicking my ass, and he has very similar moves to Margit, but his stupid feints get me like 75% of the time. Doesn't help that one swing takes off like 60-75% of my health.

This game is simply amazing and I really hope other studios take notice and learn from this title, though I do wish it was easier to make sense of the actual story.

Unlike previous From games, you cannot be involuntarily invaded unless you have at least 1 co-op partner summoned.

-edit- I guess it could be what Ronne said, but similar result.
