Edit: You simply can not beat the pure sex that is the Clipper. The instrument panel, the smooth lines, the cockpit... its like Tron and Apple had a designer love-child.
I just moved into Empire space to start working solely on getting the rank and funds to get one of these. They look pretty badass and seem a fair bit sexier than the federal dropship.

I'm so glad to hear other people's stories. My self-esteem as a gamer was taking 1-2 punches these last few days.

Here's another gem:
When you press ESC to go the Game Menu, your game is not - I repeat -NOT paused.

GF was making diner and it was ready. I just finished my jumps but didn't want to keep her waiting so pressed ESC while supercruising to my final destination.

Came back after half an hour only to find myself at about 1,500,000Ls from where I left the game.

No harm done luckily, but you don't want do learn this tidbit of information in the middle of a life or death situation. This game finds the most trivial ways to kick you in the nuts.
You don't want to jump into a sun like that either.

I've fought several clippers and they are tough monsters
Clippers and Pythons give me the most trouble. Anacondas are shockingly easy if they don't have an high level pilot.

I moved to Empire space as well. Do we all start out in the same system? Or does it load everyone differently?

I had to jump 11 times to get to empire space, and had to refuel along the way. I had 100k of bounties to turn in also from using my K-Warrant scanner there also. Ive also hit Novice combat rank last night, and I've just been playing purely bounty hunter.

I lol at little at npc Eagles that interdict me out of supercruise in my Viper. Tonight I mat focus on Reputation since I don't think I have gotta ANY since I started playing this game.

Unless they changed things, people buying the game now will start in one of many systems scattered throughout Federation space.

The most annoying thing about Empire space is collecting Alliance bounties from pirate kills. Imperial Clippers cost a small fortune to outfit. Cross that out, a large fortune. The hardpoints are not ideally placed either, you'll want turrets out on those fins, so be very, very careful where you deploy them as turrets tend to spray fire everywhere.

I'm making some nice cash shipping tobacco one way and Viagra the other. The local market in slaves seems to have died.

Let me tell you guys what happened to me the other day when I was playing, I was beside myself as to what I should do. Keep in mind I was still super new toElite.

Ok so I just learned I can sit on a Nav beacon in my home system and help the Security ships kill Wanted NPC's for bounties. I'm in my Sidewinder with all starter gear.

I rack up about 30k worth of bounties (this is a lot for me at the time), most of my "kills" have been about 2k each. Its time to jet out and go turn the-- "YOU ARE UNDER ATTACK". SHIT.

3 Sidewinders warped onto the beacon and started attacking me instantly.

I lock my hard points and prepare for supercruise so I can gtfo. SHIELDS OFFLINE. They are hitting my hull now and its dropping fast, at 15% now. I'm weaving as much as I can, my nose pointing all over the place while I pray my FSD will come online. I bank HARD right before it comes online.

ABORT ABORT fuck. Im hitting escape on my keyboard

Frame Shift Drive active. I supercruise right into the sun that's next to the beacon. I must've throttled up in my panic because I immediately perform an emergency exit out of supercruise right next to the sun and my hull drops to 5%.

At this time I didn't know what heat was but my ship is sparking all over the place and shit is on FIRE IN MY COCKPIT. The computer voice is blaring "HEAT LEVELS CRITICAL". I'm thinking I'm so close to the sun that I'm cooking alive.

Anyone sometimes get shot at by federation ships when attacking a Wanted target?

Yep. When I initiate combat on a wanted target sometimes a security vessel within scanning range will scan me then start attacking my ship even tho I'm not wanted.

And sometimes security ships will fly right through my fire zone and get hit and then I'm I'm a criminal.

Well yeah I knew about the accidentally shooting them part, that seems working as intended.

I've been having problems with that too. I read around some and the theory is that it's either a bug or it's because the wanted person is on the same faction as the Feds. Though if that's true it doesn't apply to the npcs, because I've seen them them fire on each other with out Feds stepping in.

Yesterday one bounty hunting NPC eagle just rammed my ship after combat with a wanted AI ship. Over and over. Since I had a C-shielded Cobra, I just waited until he killed himself, which he after three full hits finally did.

Fucking Anaconda rammed me at 10% hull after I took out his FSD. Could have been lousy flying on my part.

I've been playing a few more hours today, finally got up to about 70K cr running between an Extraction and a High Tech station. Making about 5K per run now since I finally have the credits to invest in the good stuff. Almost time to start looking for an upgraded ship.
So I load up my vehicle again with 5 Palladium (13K each) and use the last of my credits to fill it up with Silver. I warp back to the high tech station. GF goes to bed but had a bit of a throat ache so I offer to grab some medicine from the cupboard. I finish my supercruise to the station, and park myself there at about 7km, even go 'silent running' because you just never know, although this is just next to a Federation station.

I run to grab the throat meds and come back to my computer after at most 2 minutes: "Your ship has been destroyed". Continue with the 1K creds you still had left after investing in those metals?

No thanks. I'm done with this game.

No pause option in a single player game is just amazingly horrible design.

I'll explain how I think it's supposed to work. If a normal scan (not a KWS) shows a vessel as Wanted, then the sub faction that controls the system (like Jet Dynamics) is hostile to them. Other sub-factions in the same system may or may not be hostile to them.

If a normal scan shows a vessel as Clean, then the sub faction that controls the system has no problem with them. If you shoot a Clean target then the local police will fire on you, even if your KWS shows it has a bounty, because the target ship has not broken any laws in that system.

Whenever you shoot at a ship, all nearby ships of the same sub-faction will go hostile and show up red on the radar, even if your target is Wanted. Note this doesn't necessarily mean they will shoot at you.

The issue is what happens when you shoot a Wanted target that belongs to the same sub-faction as nearby police vessels. In theory, if the police vessels belong to the sub-faction that controls the system, then they should not go hostile, for obvious reasons. In practice it happens sometimes; I think it's when the police see you shoot first before they "realise" your target is Wanted. At least you no longer get the terrible faction hit for killing Wanted ships we got just before release.

So it's a shared persistent galaxy?

And if you're getting ganked by a pirate you can't handle, can you just 'save and exit' and come back 10 minutes later when he has left?
