I don't remember having access to magic chests out of the gate either, which is amazing.

Also am I missing some excavate tool or is the best way to dig still placing objects and then picking them up?

Is this worth playing if I don’t really care about survival or building all that much, but enjoy exploring and rpg combat? I saw somewhere that it’s kind of like BoTW which wouldn’t be so bad since weapon durability can be toggled off.

You can pretty much ignore the building aspects by just claiming a house/town/castle that's already there. Just need to patch the holes in the walls and roof and they are good to go.

There's always going to be a certain amount of crafting/survival stuff you have to do but basically if you want you can play it like Skyrim. Weapon durability really isn't that big a deal. Everything gets repaired instantly when you use your workbench and there's anvils all over the place that do it in the wild too. Toggling it off would make wands even more ridiculously overpowered than they already are.

I think it's a super great exploration game. They definitely reward exploring. Crafting makes your life easier, but you could get away without it if you wanted. Your character can be transferred to other games too, so you could always just go to someone else's game and they could give you whatever crafted thing you want.

I don't understand why these games don't have persistent worlds. I think that would make them far more interesting (to me, anyway). Can't afford the infrastructure?
