Finally able to get back to reading the boards.

Because what you don't like is the grind part not the exp part. What they will do is get rid of the exp and shift the grind part to simply being non exp based. You will still have to grind its just you will be very restricted in choices because you will only advance by doing the one or two thing that moves your character forward instead of a exp based system that allows you to advance by gaining generic game exp from many different sources.
They didn't replace, only removed exp gain lvling. Everything else has been there in other games along with exp lvling. They just removed the epeen mindless boring BS that exp lvling creates.

-The repetitive story lore no one cares about because ppl forget about it within the next zone if not sooner
-Constant gear replacement because they think "no drop" is the best implementation crap since nipples on tits but really its the worst idea known to MMO
-The "Hey guys wait for me to lvl up to group with you" crap because you/they missed a day or two. Inviting new members to a guild wont have to wait for you to lvl up to join them.

It's easy to confuse but they didn't replace exp lvling, shocking I know but many aren't understanding this point. Ppl are still hung up on that. The Tier system in place would be no different than EQ AA or Rift Planar unlocks. Those games still have exp lvling and that type of system so what was replaced if you are claiming it was?

Darkfall doesn't have lvls and its a great game, main thing I hate about it is the PVP aspect which it is and very much hardcore. You want HC, go play it. Let me know when you come crying back after losing your shit for the 10th time! Game can make you go more paranoid than Eve and I thought nothing could top that.

As for Hardcore comments, with a new game, its unknown and waiting to see what happens. I know that if you have to look for something and they claim is a 1 shot chance to find it , do it or get it due to the idea that things dont respawn and you wont be able to camp it. This isn't something that falls into the realm of casual or easy in my book.

May be wrong on this but, I highly doubt many that post or lurk have gone so "HC" they tell the player made gaming sites that post cheats, hints, guides on how do, where is and what to do to F-off and resist the urge to look up anything for the sake of not wanting spoilers and going it......ALONE! RARRR....

I tend to think that some of this rage is due in part that these sites will have a hard time tracking details on the mentioned above along with no easy way to show their Epeen number when inspecting them.

So I guess I missed that part in all of the MMORPGs that came before where being max level meant guaranteed competence in raiding, PvP, etc. I agree that players should have to work for certain aspects of the game (in an MMORPG, at least), but a sheer power differential between level 1 and max level is not necessary. It facilitates abandonment of content among other issues.
This!
I think you and I are basically on the same page and agreement with lvling. Totally agree that the lvl game was never needed. The old argument I have stated in the past, what happens 3 months after expansion release when majority players hit max lvl and now grinding gear. What was the point of lvls?

So is everyone willfully ignoring Second Life? Correct me if I am wrong but it looks to have topped all the other games and was on a constant climbing streak for a long while!

I do not see that game in any respect Hardcore nor barely an MMO in the respect of a game but its kicking ass over all the other games! I have stated before that Landmark seems to have some Second Life aspects to it in many ways. If they were to base off something for a goal, that looks to be a good mark to strive for!

I never got to play Second Life, knew someone that got into it a bit too much. His wife just about divorced him because of it. Something about online relationship thing, but that has happened in other games so not sure if the game had much to do with it other than being a standard medium to play out actions due to unhappy personal life.

Don't get mad at me for the perverted thing people did in second life I never played that game. But note that game did peak at almost twice the number of subscribers as EQ did. So someone sure played that game allot. SoE seems to actually be going down same path second life blazed with player studio and EQL. It will be interesting how this works out because if you give players a chance to use your games design tools to make porn that's exactly what some of them will do. If you don't allow that then you open the door to competitors who offer more freedom of expression. If you think the average mmo player doesn't like porn then I think your just plain wrong.

The dark elf concept art reminds me of the Atari game Demon Stone, which is fine with me. At least that is what I would prefer over the Lineage 2 version. It's a matter of taste, I guess. On the other hand, it is quite remarkable that something similar to the original EQ-model is not even in question anymore.

While graphics are more or less ok, I am more concerned about the sales model. I hope that they will not sell us OP-stuff and nerf it two weeks later again and again and again. In fact, I'd rather pay $15 each month to keep the equipment and abilities more or less stable for a while.

I hope SoE smashes anyone trying to make anything sexual. Penis castles shall be struck down by the Gods!
I disagree, they should give space (and charge $$$) to those wanting to make penis forests. Remember Goldshire on US-Moonguard? It's where most of the ERP happens in WoW. And they try to suppress it. While at the same time Second Life makes about $100m/year from that shit (yes. 100. incredible.).

As long as there boundaries and your penis monument does not come near my pony unicorn fantasy adventure time I think we can enjoy the same game.

I could live with a "Red-Light district".

Someone spilled Storybricks info all overEQNext Junkies
Granted the bar isn't set very high right now, but I think that's the most interesting info I've digested since themmobuff interviewat gamescum. Still lots of 'we can't talk about it yet' in there, but that was expected. Plenty of interesting stuff inbetween. Thank goodness the gentlemen at Storybricks have something interesting to say, the only message I'm getting from the SOE guys right now is basically 'once we figure it all out we'll let you know!'

I appreciate this effort.

aside from using absurd numbers for HP & damage, no I don't think you're capable of this. Another outstanding underestimation from an MMO development team.
How not? One easy scenario is a mob with lots of interrupts who is programmed to interrupt heals from a range. Bam. Near impossible to defeat with a numbers controlled raid force, like we've seen in near every game.

"Interrupt heals from a range"

you mean cast a GM command? Because this mob is easily defeated by numbers of players.

To be honest i don't need to even make this point. The server Rallos Zek did when they beat the bullshit out of Kerafyrm.

So, what I get out of that is that the Storybricks stuff is all conceptual and they haven't implemented it and have no idea how they're going to do so "but trust us it will be awesome." Just like everything else.

same. Notice they even concluded with a 7 paragraph disclaimer beginning with "don't over do it, we're amateurs"

Also Big P i did notice you said numbers controlled. but come on, thats just designing an encounter to be impossible. It's not creatively designing an encounter.
