Yeah twinking is kind of irrelevant when gear doesn't have stats.
But doesn't the gear have effects, rather than stats? Like haste and what not, rather than direct + 10 INT, etc.

I might still want to make a Dwarf, just to have a Dwarf, and give him some gear to beef him up.

Good point, but maybe twinking will have to be done through crafting items, which are supposed to be just as good as most drops.

I almost guarantee there will be race change potions in the cash shop. Spending $5 to get one will probably make infinitely more sense than starting a new character.

Going to be weird seeing "Dungeon group LF tier3 cleric w/ y achievement(to get a certain ability)".

Ugh achievement linking to the extreme inc.

This has me a little concerned then. Will higher tier stuff be blocked off from lower tier players? That shit was annoying in EQII when it first came out. "You must be level 30 to enter the Thundering Stepps." That shit pissed me off. Would piss me off if it's in this game as well.

Also, I wonder what these accomplishments entail. I wonder how many different ways there are to tier up?

This could easily make or break this game. I'm excited that they're trying something new, but worried at the same time.
Devs gave example of can't break into tier 3 (down) if you don't have a tier 3 pick. No idea if that was serious or not.

I think if SOE does this right it is WoW Vanilla/EQ 1999 - you have to play it. Even Dumar and Ut are going to end up playing it.

I really like the idea of being nice or a complete douche effects what classes you can find. They're talking about only being able to talk to SK people if you're "bad" or whatever which means certain areas of the game will essentially be off limits for anything useful to happen aside from people going down that path. I hope they all interact with each other but I wouldn't mind if they didn't for the fact that I personally am huge on exploring and finding a random tiny little cult somewhere and being able to interact with them while other people run by and just see enemies is cool as fuck.

Is there a general consensus there among the players of when this thing might go into beta? Just curious.

Will be curious if they allow factioning in a sense. IE be a "Bad guy" to get certain things but then re-work to get back on the good side. Could tie the bad guy gear/abilities directly into faction, so you don't have a paladin running around with a skelly pet.

What if a high tier player opens up a hole into a t3 area, but I try to walk in?

I can understand not being able to break t3 ground/terrain/objects as a t2 player, but if I'm blocked off artificially, that would be dumb.

No artificial blocks. Devs example of opening into a cavern and falling to death/dying to mob. You want to screw yourself you can.

Agreed. I know they said they don't really want to do factions but they.. kind of are in a different sense. I loved gaining Reputation during WoW because there were a few out there that would have special shit, but that gets so dreadfully boring grinding the same 3 mobs until exalted. I'm so fucking glad they're doing away with it.

But the fact that I can be a "good" guy my entire life and become a paladin and at some point become corrupt and want to switch and work my way to be a Shadow Knight and I CAN? Hell yeah, bitch

Generally you can do it - Talisker said the are thinking of a few specific very limited limitations such as Paladin/SK abilities not being allowed. Stuff that is totally opposite. Not decided but IMHO he didn't seem to like the idea of having both P/SK abilities at the same time.

Devs had no problem with Anakin Skywalker scenario totally switching from one to other due to whatever. Only issue was simultaneous SK/P abilities on the hotbar. But again, Talisker was specific that it wasn't decided.

Nope. Devs are not talking beyond the Georgeson quote earlier - up to marketing, lots of ways. no date set, not even a hint of a date.

That's still pretty fantastic though. It completely makes sense for a Paladin not being able to have "dark" magic abilities to me. I'm interested in all of the classes now though, 40 is a whole lot.

40 to start, they will add additional classes (confirmed). Seemed likely that some classes will be relatively rare.

Now my question is, are the 40 classes defined by 4 specific abilities, or do they have many abilities, and you are allowed to slot 4 of them?

We need to get some of the loud mouths from RR onto the EQN beta boards ASAP. Gotta make sure the shakier stuff (i.e. combat) gets done right.

All I know from dev speak is that there are four types of abilities (Utility, Movement, ?, ?) and that some classes do not have specific abilities (Warriors have no utility abilities) and that you get different abilities based on gear. So I have no clue.

Hopefully more tomorrow at the class panel!
