So some servers with more active players will progress quicker than others that don't work to push to 'the next chapter'.
That didn't answer my question. Are they one time events, IE if I am not there to see it then I will never see it. How do you balance that around players who can vary from 2 hours a week to 80+. Every server will have the super hardcore that will burn through the "Book" in the fastest matter possible and anyone on that server that didn't get to see it, are screwed. I mean this could literally be the top 5% of your server screwing over the other 95%. To use their analogy, instead of each player reading their own book, the entire server reads from one book and whoever reads the fastest is setting the pace.

New progression servers will be opened. So if you miss events you can start on a new server from the beginning of the story.

From what it sounds like, the Rallying Calls will most likely be one time events. Some parts may take days, weeks, or months - but smaller components may just take a few hours.

So, to better understand the Rallying Calls, I wasn?t clear on some things with David Georgeson?s example: say you?ve built a big city, and built these stone walls around it, and now an army has come for a siege. Is that something that happens over a couple hours, or a week?

McPherson: That army siege lasts until the players on the server have completed that stage.

Butler: Think about it as if you?re playing the game as if it were a book. So, you?ve started a new chapter. In this chapter, the army has arrived to lay siege to your city. All the elements of the plot that you progress with, as the reader of the book, you?ll be progressing through those as a player in the game. There will be times where you need to be in the right place at the right time, and there will be situations that are drawn out over a longer period of time.

In general, Rallying Calls will be there, like a public quest, we intend for people to participate in them, right? So, simply defeating the enemy at the walls may be something that requires a day, two, may require a week. A siege implies that something would be fairly long lasting. A battle on the other hand [snaps fingers].

I don't understand how multiclassing works. Can you for example level up warrior to Tier 3 then do some task for some guy and acquire the cleric class and level that to tier 3 then swap back and forth between T3 cleric and warrior whenever you want? Or do you lose your "Tiers" in previous classes when you switch to different ones thus requiring you to re-lvl them if you switch back?

I really hope you lose all current progress with your class if you switch. People being able to switch classes/roles at the push of a button with no drawbacks is like cancer to MMO's imo.

Tad, have they said how intricate factions are going to be? Could you fight on the side of the Orcs trying to stop Halas from being established?

Pretty sure they said once things happen, it's done. But they also said things will take a long time - using the Halas taking 3 months as a example

I just do not see that being enjoyed for the 90-95% of the server. They say this " Story is the heart of everything.", but only a very minority of your server is going to be able to even experience it. I just don't see that model becoming successful or retaining any kind of player-base outside the hardcore that will burn through your "book" and come back when there is a new chapter or a new book.

Rofl. If that is there solution, that is just a horrible way to treat your players.

It sounds like you can level a class once you've discovered it and pick abilities from that class, but that your weapon dictates somewhat what skills you can use. They might just split up weapon skills and class abilities completely though. Everquest Next Landmark came out of no where though!

Depends on what's going on. Half the player-base may be trying to stop it.
This is some wake the sleeper shit. We will form a pact to prevent the siege from ever being lifted so we can farm the battle commanders forever for tier 7 weapons.

I see what you're saying. I agree with you. This kind of stuff should beextremely accessiblein its time. It should basically be a server event that draws all current players to it, not something localized to a certain level range or area.

Stuff like Rally Calls takes participation... If its not worth the player's time or effort it's going to fail. You have to ensure they are not annoyances as well. Think about all the games that have tried this.. However, I would love to have gone on a raid just to see my house or even city I live in completely under siege.

Good summary of new info from EQ Nexus...

Day number two for SOE Live is winding down, and the information surrounding EverQuest Next is starting to trickle in from tonight?s panel discussions. In addition to our earlier recap article, read on to find out what else we have learned:

  • There are no levels in EverQuest Next. Progression is based on tiers and horizontal gameplay. There are 40 classes to ?obtain,? and each is advanced individually once obtained.
  • Player stats are called attributes. Equipment will not provide attributes. Additional attributes will be extremely rare and will require tremendous effort to modify. All attributes will have impactful meaning for all classes.
  • Discovering new classes will occur at varying rates and occur through quest type events and may be restricted by player behavior and the impact of emergent AI.
  • Armor (and the ability to craft intricate armor components) will be a major form of character customization, and many custom items will be recognizable on sight.
  • The ability hotbar will have a maximum of 4 weapon skills and 4 class skills at any given time.
  • Each class comes with 4 class specific skills.
  • Crafting skill will not be advanced by repeatedly making the same item over and over.
  • Crafting components remain useful based on their properties, not on a crafting level.
  • Rallying Calls (public quests) will be ongoing until players on a specific server complete each stage.
  • Player housing will be in game, but no details are available yet.
  • There are at least 6 starting races: High Elf, Dark Elf, Human, Kerra, Dwarf and Ogre ? there will be more, but as of yet unannounced.
  • Old school style mage pets are in EverQuest Next
  • Gear system provides 5 visual slots (chest, back, etc.), but each slot is made up of individual components that may also be swapped out.
  • Homage will be paid to the EverQuest franchise through locations, armor ? an example used was the Flowing Black Robe.
  • Families of armor can alter your look ? not just cloaks, but quivers, etc.
  • Exploration will yield a variety of useful items: i.e. resources, recipes, collections, etc.
  • Storylines will be important, the world will evolve, its occupants will be relatable. In short, ?everything matters.?
  • Parts of the environment that are destroyed will be regenerated over time, the speed of which will be determined by population and the extent of the damage done.
  • Gravity will be deadly ? every action has a consequence, the same with unsafe travel.
  • The world is vast; travel will require a time investment and a money investment.
