Well see - the "avoid zones" in the big mob fight doesn't leave me too hopefully with how plentiful they were.To me, this has more to do with dungeon design and pacing than actual combat itself. Perhaps you can move a bit quicker if you entire group can dodge every single ability, perhaps you'll need to stop and rest for a minute if a few aren't as good at dodging, etc. A need for Crowd Control will also slow down pulls quite a bit as well. There's definitely a balance that needs to be struck. I think there needs to be ebbs and flows when exploring a dungeon.
Sounded like it with the "Player Forge" build your castle with someone elses towers you bought thing. So are player owned cities in EQN or only Landmark? I know they said you could work towards building Halas and stuff, but what about your own town/house?
I understand not being a total asshole to your interviewee, but all of these interviews are so weak. The interviewer (in every case I've seen) just nods along in agreement and pats whoever they're talking with on the back the whole time. Ask a difficult question every once in a while and bring up some legitimate scenarios that may cause concern instead of just saying "YEAH TOTALLY AWESOME TOTALLY AGREE THANKS FOR BRINGING GREAT GREATNESS TO US PEASANTS." Basically you just have to sit the video out and hope to hear something interesting come from the developer.
I agree, I would of have liked to see 1 them ask Smokejumper or Smed hey you guys said while ago that, EQNext will be sandbox we are not doing the next WOW , then why did you all go with character models that are cartoony?I understand not being a total asshole to your interviewee, but all of these interviews are so weak. Oh we completely understand. But 'leveling' by reaching certain milestones sounds like a helluva lot more fun than watching an experience bar fill up.These kinds of posts confuse me. Sure, there are no levels, but gear = levels. Your tier 5 character will stomp the shit out of tier 1 content. And it absolutely wastes previous content. Why the hell are you going to want to be doing lower tier content? Saying there are no levels doesn't make it so.
I'll go back to the TSW comparison since it's so apt. There are no levels, but a 10.4 tier DPS is going to absolutely fuck shit up in lower tiers. In EQN's case, you have to imagine a tier 5 wizard can one shot all of the tier 1 mobs. If not, what in the fuck is the point? It also wouldn't make sense if that is the case since they said a tier 2 in a tier 4 zone is screwed. What kind of magical ability is going to allow you to survive if it's not more dps/hp/heals?
This whole thing just sounds like they're not calling things what they are, and some of you are eating it up. Tad also keeps bringing up how it'll be so difficult to max out a class. How is that any different from any other MMO? I seem to recall it taking fucking forever to get to 50 in original EQ. This isn't new. In, the whole idea that gear is so important really just sounds like a rehash of EQ. That was probably one of the most gear dependent MMO's there is.
This is one of the things that you think would be awesome when you were seven and didn't really have a notion for the feasibility of certain things. Like I used to tell my mom that I would remodel the restaurant by putting the restaurant on a island in the middle of a man made pond and then having an indoor waterfall & river, with a bridge traversing the river from the dining area to the counter.Switching classes would be cool if it altered your animations and character stances as well. You're a wizard with an ego? Stand tall and perform your casts in a stately manner. A witchdoctor? Hunch over and mumble your incantations while twitching from the high your herbs gave you. A rogue? Look over your shoulder frequently and don't forget to lurk whenever you find a shadowy area. Just ideas, but would add flavor to simply switching classes for the sake of filling a role.
'We've basically went full circle and decided to copy Ultima Online, except we'll call them classes to restrict things we wanna restrict.'I understand not being a total asshole to your interviewee, but all of these interviews are so weak. I, to this day, do not understand why EA doesn't re-release Ultima Online with classic coding and a few modifications. The engine has aged remarkably well. There are tens of thousands of people who play free shards, and many, many more who would love to play an official server should one be released.'We've basically went full circle and decided to copy Ultima Online, except we'll call them classes to restrict things we wanna restrict.'
Negative sir - even if you could, you'd block it and then they'd just Kool-Aid Man a new entrance into the bank/CB.Or banks.
If they can attack me, I better be able to attack them.as much freedom as they're promising, i bet players won't even be able to attack guards.
