The art in general just looks so poor. I mean look at that poster in the vid. Looks like an art student made it? Where is the zombie of Keith Parkinson?

Sorry guys, there are a lot of reasons to rag on SOE on the direction of this game butgraphics & animations are not one of them:

Traveling, attacks, interaction with the environment, and animations look like a lot of fun. Graphics look pretty fucking good too.
Fast forward to ~28 seconds if you want to skip the stupid shit.

As much as I like all of this...

...being able to swap from a mage to a warrior, and then back to a mage, rates just about as high on the inverse, the things-i-really-do-NOT-like scale.

The announcement as far as the game being a sandbox sounds really cool. The environment looks pretty awesome to me, I don't mind cartoony graphics so I am fine with the human model...the Kerra cat people turned into lions has to go...it was totally awful...or rather the head has to go...body and running animation were pretty cool.

As far as gameplay...really no info came out in any depth so can't make an opinion. SOE has no released anything worth playing since EQ1 so I have very little faith they'll suddenly do it.

But seriously, as far as tech demo go...it was impressive. I think Blizzard or another company is just gonna copy it and make a game that will be 10 times better.

So I liked the female character model.. the Kerran is a disaster. Someone here mentioned creating our own models since we're pretty much creating everything else, I like that idea. Some talented modeler could put out some really nice stuff then we could just vote them up and bam, our perfect character models are in the game.

At first the multiclassing bothered me, but then I read (also here) that it would be cool if they were in the same vein as LoL or DoTA, maybe even Battleheart. That got me pumped and I can only hope there's a glimmer of reality there. I mean they're pulling from GW2, Minecraft, and EVE extensively, why not throw in LoL/DoTA as well.

Also the interview where Goergeson mentions no levels, but lateral advancement. This is a long time coming imo and I think will help bring casuals and hardcores together, as well as friends who outlevel eachother. Your buddy is new to the game and only has the base class, or maybe one other? Well switch to your newest class that you aren't far advanced in, or an older class that you didn't think you'd care much for, but that now has a purpose for your duo. Switching classes would be cool if it altered your animations and character stances as well. You're a wizard with an ego? Stand tall and perform your casts in a stately manner. A witchdoctor? Hunch over and mumble your incantations while twitching from the high your herbs gave you. A rogue? Look over your shoulder frequently and don't forget to lurk whenever you find a shadowy area. Just ideas, but would add flavor to simply switching classes for the sake of filling a role.

I hope with this extensive underworld they are creating that their overworld is just as interesting. It would be a shame to have EVERY dungeon be subterranean and claustrophobic when many of the areas we hunted in have been outdoors. The world they are crafting thus far is beautiful, and having played PS2 I know it won't let us down in the eye-candy category. Here's hoping for a smart world design, or that the events have -some- rhyme and reason to them.

When it comes to the combat.. well.. I hope it's not THAT action oriented, but at the same time if it's being bred for the PS4 I can definitely see that being a reality. Don't really know how I feel about weapons determining skills. It was in GW2 and I sort of liked it.. but sort of not. It's just crazy going from killing large rats outside Freeport to what we saw these guys doing in Feerrott. Flying around like mad and roflstomping the living crap out of a horde of small enemies, while destroying the ruins they were climbing around on. It's a crazy new world..

To me, this has more to do with dungeon design and pacing than actual combat itself. Perhaps you can move a bit quicker if you entire group can dodge every single ability, perhaps you'll need to stop and rest for a minute if a few aren't as good at dodging, etc. A need for Crowd Control will also slow down pulls quite a bit as well. There's definitely a balance that needs to be struck. I think there needs to be ebbs and flows when exploring a dungeon.
Well see - the "avoid zones" in the big mob fight doesn't leave me too hopefully with how plentiful they were.

So are player owned cities in EQN or only Landmark? I know they said you could work towards building Halas and stuff, but what about your own town/house?
Sounded like it with the "Player Forge" build your castle with someone elses towers you bought thing.

I understand not being a total asshole to your interviewee, but all of these interviews are so weak. The interviewer (in every case I've seen) just nods along in agreement and pats whoever they're talking with on the back the whole time. Ask a difficult question every once in a while and bring up some legitimate scenarios that may cause concern instead of just saying "YEAH TOTALLY AWESOME TOTALLY AGREE THANKS FOR BRINGING GREAT GREATNESS TO US PEASANTS." Basically you just have to sit the video out and hope to hear something interesting come from the developer.

I agree, I would of have liked to see 1 them ask Smokejumper or Smed hey you guys said while ago that, EQNext will be sandbox we are not doing the next WOW , then why did you all go with character models that are cartoony?

Just like for poltics either the interviewer does not have the balls to ask or they are only allowed to ask set questions they agree to before the interview.

Cheers.

After seeing all the showed us all Friday, as I stated sadly think they have at least 2.5 years of work ahead to get this shipped in Nov to Dec 2015 but this is SOE we are speaking about so at the latest it be April to May 2015.
My prediction is based on tech demo and simple MMO design building 101 is they are launching Nov to Dec 2014 ready or not, sadly that is launching at least 6-12 months to soon.

These kinds of posts confuse me. Sure, there are no levels, but gear = levels. Your tier 5 character will stomp the shit out of tier 1 content. And it absolutely wastes previous content. Why the hell are you going to want to be doing lower tier content? Saying there are no levels doesn't make it so.

I'll go back to the TSW comparison since it's so apt. There are no levels, but a 10.4 tier DPS is going to absolutely fuck shit up in lower tiers. In EQN's case, you have to imagine a tier 5 wizard can one shot all of the tier 1 mobs. If not, what in the fuck is the point? It also wouldn't make sense if that is the case since they said a tier 2 in a tier 4 zone is screwed. What kind of magical ability is going to allow you to survive if it's not more dps/hp/heals?

This whole thing just sounds like they're not calling things what they are, and some of you are eating it up. Tad also keeps bringing up how it'll be so difficult to max out a class. How is that any different from any other MMO? I seem to recall it taking fucking forever to get to 50 in original EQ. This isn't new. In, the whole idea that gear is so important really just sounds like a rehash of EQ. That was probably one of the most gear dependent MMO's there is.
Oh we completely understand. But 'leveling' by reaching certain milestones sounds like a helluva lot more fun than watching an experience bar fill up.

This is one of the things that you think would be awesome when you were seven and didn't really have a notion for the feasibility of certain things. Like I used to tell my mom that I would remodel the restaurant by putting the restaurant on a island in the middle of a man made pond and then having an indoor waterfall & river, with a bridge traversing the river from the dining area to the counter.

What I want to know is.. So a Orc Warband is attacking a caravan of humans and I can intervene and either A) Assist the caravan guards fend off the Orcs, after which I may receive the "Protector" (Or whatever) class or a new ability, or B) I can assist the Orcs in slaughtering the humans.. can the Orcs teach me a bestial class or do I just get +1 Dick points with the Humans?

I want to be Kevin Costner in Dances with Gnolls..

I, to this day, do not understand why EA doesn't re-release Ultima Online with classic coding and a few modifications. The engine has aged remarkably well. There are tens of thousands of people who play free shards, and many, many more who would love to play an official server should one be released.

It would literally cost very little...

...and yet they don't do it. I just don't understand. Ultima Online was the beginning of MMORPGs and it will be the future - eventually. Eventually... developers are going to, as you said, come full circle and start making living worlds.

That said, there is a lot of hate for the multi class bullshit on the official forums. We aren't the only ones. I want to know WHY they would implement a feature like this. There's just no argument that I can think of that would make this something that people would look forward to, at least not to anyone who has experience with the genre. And that drains my hope that this will be successful when they make such fundamentally unsound design decisions right off the bat.

The thing with the system on how we obtain classes that worries me...is can I fuck it up permanently? If I decide to help the orcs and that the farmer was the guy that gives the wizard class. Did I just lock myself out of ever becoming a wizard...or will there be other opportunities?
