18 weeks Velious, 18 weeks Luclin, 16 weeks PoP gets you to 52 for a new launch and new bag purchases.

It is still 4 months away though. If they just got rid of the 18 week unlocks for Luclin & PoP, this server will actually be super popular. Maybe it still will be thanks to the bonuses, but I'm not sure people understand just how long 4 months in 1 expansion with live xp actually is. Especially with random loot, and the bonus loot that comes with it.

Pretty much. If they changed it to 8 weeks in Velious, 8 weeks in Luclin, 8 weeks in PoP (bonus if LDoN is included) and went from there, it would probably be as popular as Teek and have more longevity in the population, contrary to their belief over there. A lot more people would actually get to experience some post-PoP expansions before the server gets cannibalized by the next one.

The one thing I like about the new server is that the live exp rates will let you level personas quick. On Teek I had probably half the personas at max level and frequently switched to things like Cleric and Mage to plug gaps on raids. The issue was that with the exp being so slow, most of them didn't have enough AAs to really be viable, outside of whatever my main was at any given expansion. Getting half of the personas to 60 in Velious was a lot of work but useful. The addition of AAs is where keeping them current really went to die.

If it were this new server I would have been able to probably have everyone at 60 and with enough AAs for viability, with the same time committment.

Never say never! Unfettered Emerald Excellence was accidentally hard and nerfed after only... one? guild could beat it.

I sometimes wonder if original EQ was actually hard or if most people were just bad at it. Wasnt AoW only killed like, a week before Luclin release?

UEE on Phinigel was the best win I've ever been a part of in EQ. Demands perfect execution from everyone, and aside from a mess-up by one guy (I'll call him "Bobni" to protect the innocent), we executed.

The Burning Lands, in general, is a pretty great expansion, a real high point of the post-100 game (which is full of low points). The challenge level of the final boss brings back something we hadn't really seen in EQ since the days of Tunat Muram or Mata Muram in-era in 2004, an actual wall to climb. And the general content of the expansion is really cool and interesting, finally making some major use of the extended elemental planes (Fire/Air sides) and the djinn/efreeti races that have been around since the beginning but never really explored. Shame most people never see it, and shame it never got the obvious sequel expansion covering the Earth/Water sides of the planes and Loruella the Citadel of Water.

Even if they had Luclin open at launch, everybody would be through those AAs in no time imo.

This is going to be a vacation server... people will show up, beat it, and go on vacation to another server or game until the next expansion opens up. Rinse and repeat.
Most people don't cancel subs in that situation, so DPG makes bank.

The game in its current state (and especially with the rule sets voted on) is very, very easy. At this point, its more about just playing through the game to play through the game because you enjoy... playing through the game.

Honestly, if some asshole jacks your shit right in front of you while using 3rd party software (and, trust me someone will because reasons), move on to something else and come back later. It doesn't have the same sting as it did in the past.

Tell that to the guy on Vaniki who lost some DPS races to me and spent THREE DAYS flipping out about me in general channels to the point that he got suspended for disturbing the peace, then logged on with a different account and did the same thing with the same results. When I logged back on I had all these people asking me what I did to generate tons of hate in the general channel.

Long story short, I (level 40 SK, which was max level at the time IIRC) was soloing the Frenzy room when this level 40 Cleric popped in out of nowhere and just sat there. Frenzy spawns and I DPS race him on it. Knowing he's got potent undead nukes, I drop Harm Touch and win easily. Guy flips out at me for "appearing in my camp and stealing it" which is the exact same thing he was doing to me. I told him I'd been there for like an hour already and he said that was a total lie, HE'D been there. (I later realized that he was probably in a pick that collapsed and didn't realize it due to being afk or something like that, causing him to appear in the room with me). He stuck around and kept trying to nuke my mobs down, but even without Harm Touch I got the kill on every mob and the next Frenzy as well. I lied and said I had four FBSSes in the loot window (I'd gotten one) and the guy gated out, then spent days ranting about the experience. Edit: I think he tried to train me out before he gated and that obviously backfired. Not even sure he gated, he might have just died out, was 3 years ago.

A good cleric probably could have beaten me on the non-HT DPS races, but not one that was juiced to the gills on SSRIs.

The "we must have it be one year to reach PoP" edict is what kills these servers by perpetuating the cycle of "people leave after PoP". Selo did fine well after PoP by just getting past it sooner, rather than dragging things out and having a new server cannibalize the playerbase late in PoP.

The fact that that edict exists pretty much guarantees I don't play on any future servers. It's THE LAW that they can't get to the actual good parts of the game for X amount of time. Why bother?

Phinny had a bunch of 4 month unlocks, 6 months of PoP and still did fine. Selo didn't even do fine on Launch.

This whole "people leave after PoP because PoP takes too long" is just cope from people that like the game post PoP.

There is a fairly accurate list somewhere. But for rare mobs it's based on level brackets+expansion. Like 30-39 Kunark rares would be a "bucket", 40-49 Classic Rares would be another "bucket" and every time you kill a mob you get loot from 2 of the random mobs in the same bucket as it.

And everything will be tradable? sounds like its gonna be a fun server.

About that. It's basically gambling. Kill a random rare or raid mob that usually drops shit and get the items everyone chases from the end boss. But then go kill that very well known rare or end of expansion raid boss and get crap.

There's probably a spreadsheet somewhere that has all the buckets, what mobs share with what mobs etc. It's not 100% level relevant, at least with raid mobs. I didn't pay attention to group mobs too much, so not sure there.

This spreadsheet:

It hasn't been revised for some bucket changes, but mostly high tier raid mobs.

I'm surprised if the buckets were that wide when Mischief launched. I spent a few hours in the Mistmoore castle alone and printed a full bag guises.

I'm not against the ruleset (if it is in fact what the polls showed), but I do think its going to be a ghost town in a couple months tops.

There's just nothing to keep people playing. If they think that the average casual is going to get to max level in record time for once and be like, "man I can't wait to become a raider now that I am max level in era", they're out of their fucking mind. The average casual doesn't want to dedicate to a raiding schedule. That's the whole reason they are casual in the first place. They play the game on their own schedule.

Getting them to max level super fast is going to do one thing in my opinion... cause the average casual to realize for the first time in their 26 year nostalgia trips that there is nothing at max level in era that they want to actually do.... and then leave.

The raiders are going to do what they always do... raid. They're just going to get there faster. And, they're going to burn out faster while waiting on new content to be unlocked.

I'm not against the faster experience rate nor the ease of gear consumption. That's great. It's just there is no hook to keep people playing. The server needs something that makes the average player want to keep playing for the long term.

I don't know what that is, but maybe they could expand on the persona system. Anything to increase the longevity of their players stay on the server. There needs to be a proverbial carrot for the player to chase, and I really just don't see one right now for this server.

*edit*
Actually... now that I think about it, I can think of a couple things that would add longevity to the experience.
Achievement system - Add a shit ton of achievements to the original, kunark, and velious content that the player can track in the achievements. Give them checkboxes to check off while playing through the content. They have great achievements later on, but they never went back and added the old world expansions to them (as far as I recall). Give the average player something to do. Let them see that they got their Jboots and other stupid shit that ticks that "ew I accomplished something" adrenaline pump.

Player housing - Open guild halls, player housing, and guild neighborhoods at launch and add in housing stuff you get from completing those achievements mentioned above.

Fuck if I know, but at least you would have something to do once you hit max level. Something.. anything. Be creative. Don't just do the same old thing as before.
They do have named Hunter achievements for those eras. I think they added a few other achievements for those eras but none that really give rewards or xp like modern day EQ.

Getting max level in 1 day vs 5 days doesn't matter, 4months of Velious and Luclin is just way to long.

Banger ruleset otherwise, but this should've been the 25th anni ruleset imo

This was on Vaniki which wasn't random loot, if you want an FBSS it's only gonna drop at Frenzy.

But yeah, on Teek, they mix named loot pools together with similar-leveled named loot pools. This makes it harder to target specific items, and tends to result in lots of junk dropping, but also it's pretty exciting to never know what's gonna drop next. ...at least until you've seen everything from a particular pool and know what's what.

This is why Vaniki is still the best TLP server in recent memory. Got to do a bunch of weird GoD++ shit when you really shouldn't have been there. Also enchanters having uncapped charm didn't hurt.

Vaniki had some problems but going out in to the world and seeing what you could do with +10 levels of leeway and no level based resistance modifers was fun as hell.

The double loot was amazing too. You could group up with randoms to hunt your quest items and make new friends because all the items would drop x2 and everyone would be happy. The server was a blast, even if it was short-lived and not very well populated.
