Wizard what are you looking to do/looking to fly?
Probably exploration, seems like a more entertaining way to make money than mining. At least that's probably how i'd start but i'm kind of fickle so will probably aim for something else at some point.

Being a pirate seems pretty cool and interesting too especially if I could get a small group together eventually to work with and whatnot.

Good ol Drake works for that. I made a good amount of ISK with a scanning alt and a drake doing mag sites in the Great Wildlands. Could easily handle hi sec/low sec exploration and most low sec plexs. Could train into a decently fit drake pretty quick. Would take a little longer for the probing/scanning/hacking/arch skills on top of it though. Be a few months before you had it fully T2 fit with optimal support skills but it'd certainly be usable well before then T1 fit.

Any opinions on Dust? I'll admit to being an overly hopeful fanboy. Really want something different in the MMOsphere to succeed. Today's build was a big improvement.

I was so excited about Dust, until beta... yea it's beta bla bla
...but man, console limitations will be it's downfall; this should fucking be on PC ffs.

At least it has exciting videos like EvE does

I tried it back in June and wasn't terribly impressed, but willing to take another look when it released. The graphics at that time were sub par and while the fittings were cool, the gameplay itself seemed very derivative. How is it looking these days? I might log in, should have a bunch of skillpoints unless they've reset since June.

The Chromosome build they put up yesterday was a big improvement. The rubberbanding and choppy movement is largely gone. LAVs have sound effects now so you can hear them before you get run over. Iron sites on rifles (big deal it makes the rifle jitter skills matter). Grenade improvements. Hit box improvements. More maps and they fixed issues with some of the existing ones. Yeah, basically I'm much more optimistic than I was 2 days ago. I tried to log into the EvE test server to put up a POS and preposition some stuff in the system all the matches happen in on Singularity but it looks like its somewhere in Jove space.

Can't give ISK/Aurum or items to DUST players yet. I did convo a friend playing DUST from my toon on Singularity.

Even though it is a single carrier kill - this can be a story for some of you folks who are thinking about EVE and what some of the fun and consequences can be.

Basically, that carrier guy died due to stupidity.

He's some carebear flying an expensive-fitted capital ship (that takes quite some time to train and fly properly) and our scout notices he's wrecklessly farming NPC's in an anomaly (mmo equivalent of running a quest). In EVE, - especially in non-wormhole space, you have this thing called "local" where all players can identify other players who are in the same "zone" that you are in - Therefore when our scout popped into this pilot's area, that carrier pilot should have started taking some precautions, like getting his ship to safety.

He doesn't do that, and our alliance forms up with a fleet of 15ish something players.

Now, it's about 2 am EST and the NA contingent of our alliance is tired, and members of my own corporation (a guild within this alliance) are weary that this might be some trap - and this carrier pilot is Russian and playing in their primetime. We still muster pilots however - the excitement of ruining an idiot's day is always exciting for a PVP oriented alliance like ourselves. We make the trip (it's about 5-6 zones/wh jumps which is quite a trek), our scout pins down the target and we arrive on scene.

After 1-2 tense minutes, his carrier is gone, and we haven't been counter-jumped by his friends. We loot the field, gtfo and head home, happy that we've relieved that idiot of such an expensive ship.

This is what EVE is all about. Stupidity is rewarded with the above, while the victors come away satisfied - knowing that a combination of teamwork, timing and dedication netted us a nice juicy target.

Randomly. We'll have streaks where we kill a couple caps in a day, then not see one again for a couple weeks. Sorta depends how often and for how long each night we actively look for fights.

Stupidity strikes way more often than that. This was some of the action since Friday:

This guy didn't warp off with his gang after they caught a few of us a few minutes earlier....
http://eve-kill.net/?a=kill_related&kll_id=15522029

This guy likes to shoot at solo arazus at close range beam fit while wearing expensive implants:
http://eve-kill.net/?a=kill_detail&kll_id=15551617

If you roam with any frequency you'll get good kills.

The key thing is, you have to go out there and join a corp. Whether it be a low sec pirate corp, one of the null sec powerhouses or some of the bitter vet folks in wormholes - it is absolutely essential that new players get into these groups. Players will just quit EVE if they treat it like a WoW-solo-player MMO.

Two things have stopped me from doing this. The main reason is because I hate to feel like a bother to other people (noob questions all the time, cost my team a fight because I screw up and it loses someone else a ship etc). I'm sure i'm not the only one who is hesitant to take their newbie self and join up with these groups for this reason (even though plenty of them are more than happy to help newbs learn the ropes).

The second reason is because i'm also interested in the exploration/mining/manufacturing/trade side of the game. My current predicament is deciding whether I want to take the char I just got back (Battlecruisers 2 but can only fly gallente ships) and keep him focused on combat/aim for battleships and combat or use him for exploration and stuff.

Yes and no. When I found out that I could be warped by others in a mass move, that took my nervousness down a notch. If I go back I'd prob just be additional pewpew DPS rather than any type of specialist role where I have to be super on the ball.

I think it was FurryCrusader who posted killmails and damage %s back when he was running an AC Vargur in fleets. At first I was like "WAT" and then I was like "OH FUCK LOOK AT THAT SHIT". That's all I want to do is fucking rip ships to itty bitty pieces, preferably in as vertical a ship as possible. I think you can prob do something similar and not really worry about "advanced" roles all that much. If I'm wrong though, someone will correct me I'm sure (that's kind of been my thinking for possibly coming back myself).

Seriously bro. Two accounts. I hate the concept on principle and despise needing to pay for two accounts, but you can always farm for plex on the side, and a separate 2nd char/acct gives you a separate alt you can manufacture/trade whatever on while having active skills training on both.

EVE is the only game that I'd ever consider more than one account for, and the only one I ever have done so with.

So true > For the same reasons Wizardhawk is afraid to join a corp, too. The game gets to boring in high security areas, killing pirates. To rage inducing in low security areas. I dont know about two accounts though - 30 bucks a month isnt crazy talk, but I wouldnt be happy about spending it on the same game every month.

First off, don't EVER be afraid of making noob mistakes in this game. I know you have seen the learning curve cartoon, and every EVE player knows it is true. Any halfway decent corp/alliance will have a newbie program to get you sorted, and if anyone gives you shit the best defense ever is just saying you are new.

I remember when I first started playing and we were guarding gates for a big fleet of capitals and supercapitals in Delve. I decided to warp to the capital fleet to take a peek, and the FC immediately started asking me what the hell I was doing (probably thought I was a spy and he was about to get hotdropped). I got kind of freaked out that I had done something really wrong so told him I'm new and I had never seen a capital before and just wanted to look at them. Immediately everyone on vent started going awwwwwwww and I got showered with around 100m isk.

Secondly, most of the skills toward ratting and exploration are useful for PvP as well. Since you are Gallente get those drone skills up and rat in a Dominix all day. In PvP, fly something cheap and fun. Tackling is always a blast because no fleet is able to do anything without tacklers, and it is the lowest sp job around. I usually fly an interdictor in fleets, which is just a glorified tackler.

Lastly, train up a separate character for non-combat stuff. You will want that character in a non-combat corp anyway to avoid war decs so you might as well train up a different guy once you get your combat dude in a 0.0 or lowsec corp.

^^ so true. For every mouthbreathing faggot that fucks with newbies, there's 100 guys willing to talk you through the intricacies of game mechanics. And enjoy doing so. The mechanics of the game can all be used in different ways, and it's really interesting to hear a couple guys who know what they are about bouncing ideas around. The harder part is knowing if the person you are talking to is intelligent enough to give you a correct answer. Rule of thumb: the public help channel/hisec corps is a great place to troll. Join a null alliance and go through their training programs. Even if you aren't as involved at the level you may wish immediately, you'll gain a huge leg up in confidence and game knowledge to really give yourself a goal and figure out which path you want to take in eve.
