I miss this game a lot because it had that "class appeal" that Vanguard had.

I don't think we'll see another MMO with as much combat appeal as these two systems had in these respective games. EQ2 also had "world" and a feel to the world. It had epic vibe and epic feeling rewards in place. You felt good about questing (something WoW failed to achieve, but EQ2 hit the mark on).

I mean just compare EQ2/Vanguard to Ashes of Creation...Its so trash I just can't lower myself to the "new standard" for MMO classes and combat. It really sucks they gutted so much of WoW this year because now I have nothing to play.

Ultimately, its sad that EQ2's reward systems and questing are largely downplayed and ignored in favor of the "talk to the stationary amusement park quest-giver and then go get me some bear asses" that WoW introduced. Nothing about WoW questing was ever EQ2 caliber at any point.

Idk. EQ2 has its fair share of bear ass quests right from the start. Unlike wow though, it wasn’t the fastest way to level.

I think EQ had too many classes and way too much ability bloat. If they revamped the ability bloat, I’d still play now over all the other games out. But fuck that whack-a-mole combat and 7-8 hotbars of abilities.

Dear god this, so much this, it stood out so terribly the last time I tried to play, and it immediately killed all desire for the game.

i swear i hotkeyed over 20 keys for their own specific functions (raid tank)

and i'm pretty sure you could macro or call up 5 ca's (combat abilities) per in game hotkey?

As a raid tank, thats just like 20 "oh shit" abilities

Man don't get me started, playing an illusionist I had to spam so much shit it was absolutely retarded. Buffs that need recasting every 45 secs for groups as well as my own shit and rebuffing folks who died etc and potting shit and clicky item effects (all in sequence with the raid) and copying people when they do nice DPS. In the end I used like 1 or 2 of my main DPS skills myself and my mez buttons were only ever used on avatars really.

I swear my whole goddamn keyboard was bound to one thing or another at one point. Even with macro's it was a total pain in the arse as they didn't work half the time cause the macro system was utter dogshite.

Oh and to rub salt in the wound they never ever fixed the illy pet disappearing on zoning issue, so i'd have to recast that fucker all the time.

That screenshots pretty much on par, when you play this game the screen's 120 buttons, icons raid window and there's fuck all left to see what you're doing. Look at that shit, it's completely stupid.

Yeah, I recall raiding and never really looking around (mob, adds, etc) ...just staring straight at 5 lines of things to push.

Ill take that over the "stat squish" WoW pulled, where they decided characters should remain the same as they gear up and progress.

EQ2 is going to start up a new PvP and PvE server lol. I don't think they have the population for one server let alone two new ones.

But what kind of PvP server? It has to have the right ruleset and just deal with the complainers. Naggy was right at one time and sometimes you just lose and sometimes you have to accept the fact that either people are better than you or they've simply invested more time but if the server operates correctly, you come and tip the scales and take the zone back. It grinds my gears just thinking about the road EQ2 travelled. It pretty well went from a dirt road with potholes to a paved four-lane before Ponytail thought pointless innovation was better than core progress.

No thanks, if you can buy skills or anything which you will be able to cause Daybreak. No matter what they say, there will be something.

I'll be in on the PvP server--the timing is right.

If they would reveal some details on the ruleset though that would be nice. Since they've repeatedly stated it will only be a modified server with a modified life cycle.

Most likely similar to an EQ1 Discord server. No official details yet though, just dev posts saying not to get too excited yet and that this PvP server will NOT be like the other servers.

Most people are taking that to mean that it may have a sunset date-- but there has to be more to it than that. I'm excited to see what they've got.

PVP server looks pretty legit. It's going to be a classic era PvP server. I'm assuming that means they will stop at a specific expansion that was popular (IE; TSO) with mechanics reverted to that era. No extra bullshit from other TLPs.

Beta starts on the 5th of February. Looking forward to it. I'll be honest if they pull this off, I will regain faith in them.

No interested in any new TLE servers as long as they sell exp potion

THAT should be the least of your worries. On the current TLE server they 'accidentally' enabled the ability to buy Ancient spell versions.

Quick recap for those who havent seen this: You *can* research spells in game to slowly get you an upgrade, but to cap out just one spell at current level cap, it pretty much takes the entire time the expansion is out. For one spell.

I fully expect people to be able to drop 500$ and get top tier ancient versions of all their spells on the PvP server. Prove me wrong :p I've learned to expect this from DBG.
