/s, but honestly you'd probably get in more trouble for organizing a raid on a server closet than a raid on the US capitol at this point.

100%, the co-founder of Reddit found that out.

But someone with access would be highly unlikely to get caught-- provided the DB is fenced properly using any of the available anonymity options.

I strongly suspect however it may not be on the company LAN, and is likely in permanent storage hardware since VG was shut down.

This would require serious effort and subversion to boot said hardware, locate said hardware to where it can be booted and accessed properly. As well as any applicable security passwords that might be on the offline hardware to protect it.

If it was a matter of sitting on the LAN it would have been done by now.

Beta server has begun for PvP, it's going to go until the beginning of May and then the live server will launch shortly after. So far it's been a pretty good time. Lots of work still needs to be done but the devs are talking with us daily to get the server in a good shape for launch. The PvP smack talk has already started and it's glorious.

Will this be any fun for people not interested in pvp?

If they figure out a way to prevent roaming squads of discord neckbeards on mtx mounts from perma griefing new players then it COULD have a chance. I have my doubts though. Also the Eq2 pvp scene is its own worst enemy. I've never seen a server die faster than their last pvp server.

No because even if you took the PvP out they killed the PvE game with itemization changes 2 years ago.

If they are gonna revert that AND increase xp gains so that leveling doesn't feel like a massive grind people might actually play it.

doubt it, if any of the recently addicted pvpers are playing, they will just be trolling people and gate keeping.

It takes a special type of patience and dedication to play eq2 pvp.

If you must though, play a class that can evacuate.

Maybe. I think PvP breathes a lot of extra life into the game. It stimulates the economy a bit more, it makes the world and dungeons a bit more exciting, but it's not like there's going to be so many people playing that you're constantly going to be in PvP. It's still EQ2 which means there's gonna be a calm population overall, and since there is no dedicated PvP gear, all the PvPers will still need to do PvE dungeons and raids to get geared beyond mastercrafted. I think $15 to give it a try for a month is fair.

There won't be any microtransaction mounts, and all mounts are having their movespeeds normalized.

Ah I never played EQ2 and always missed the TLP servers. I guess I will skipping this one as it doesn’t sound like new player friendly and I don’t pvp anymore.

Not at all. These servers attract the worst people. There's more hacking than on the asian Planetside 2 server. It's nuts. Also you can't even farm cash because you lose it on death. The game is right up there with ESO for PvP responsiveness (lack of!)

The beta has been pretty hack-free so far, for what it's worth.

EQ2 is known for roving gank squads and gate keeping. It's pretty discord mouth breather heavy and if you're new to the style of play, you'll probably have a bad time unless you're with a crew.

If you're a sucker for hardcore, as mentioned earlier, run something with Evacuate to improve your playing experience.

If you are losing any serious bit of coin you are trying way hard to mouth breathe. Just mail yourself the fucking money or buy shit from a vendor and boom problem solved. I played on Naggy forever from day one and the only imbeciles that dropped big cash were for two reasons : bot farmers(good targets) and people that got setup and were stupid enough to fall for it. The latter of the two was never common and while it did happen it was usually backstabbing guild bank shit.

The primary hack, ISXEQ2, doesn't normally get updated for the beta.

Soon as the server hits live, and is live for more than a few weeks, expect ISXEQ2, botting, and radar hacks / warping / screendragging to be rampant again.
Daybreak likes to go ban-crazy with the detection tools on launches, and then give zero fucks about a month in.

Correct! And their 'support the server for 2 weeks only' bleeds over to the PvE ones too. They play with itemization a bit, then just put the server on autopilot. Zero effort goes into these things.

If you have played EQ1 TLPs or WoW Classic and thought to yourself "Man this company is out of touch and making dumb decisions", take that and multiply it by about 10 and you have the EQ2 team.

Server launching May 11. I've been playing on the beta, and with the most recent patch, the balance is really, really good. Even OG Naggy players are saying that this is the best PvP has been balanced in any iteration of the game.

Look, even Secrets is hyped!

More details are coming on Tuesday but here's what we already know from the beta plus dev comments:
  • KoS start (70 level cap, 50 AA, class tree only)
  • Server locks at TSO
  • Faction vs. faction, with exile
  • All classes on either faction (some require you to betray)
  • Free trade (almost all items are tradeable, with the exceptions of quest rewards, attuned equipment, and some other specific items - this also means most items can drop on a PvP death)

Is the tier-based loot (10,20,30,40) still omega fucked and Icy Digs the only content worth doing at 50?

It's kind of irrelevant because level cap is 70. There are some proc pieces from T5 raids that might be worth having, but any of the CC-based ones won't work in PvP.
