I was just trying to have a good faith conversation on the differences between the two with people who hit the end game of thj. A lot of time both games get described, for better or worse, at high level generalizations without any substance.
Deruvian
did a pretty good job of that. As an eqaholic I'd rather people playing any variation of EQ than not.
It seems like you already have your mind made up based around some out of context videos you found.
Personally THJ pissed me off because of 2 things, well 3.. Not enough AA grind spots. And leveling items up in the power slot was something like 0.14%-0.17% per mob or some shit at the high end in POF. Which was a tedious ass grind that ultimately burned me out. Prob same as the mote grind to level up equipment and spells in this iteration. Waht the game basically evolved into was current raid or bust. everything before this was worthless. Meaning 99% of all content was worthless. Same will prob happen here although maybe not because of leveling the alts and AA come in faster in the low levels. But they were about to solve this with a SSF mode hard coded and locked in so you could not trade or dumpster dive for shit.
They were also going to solve the unused content shit with instance group or solo dungeons which scaled to your level. And you had a quest or mission to accomplish. And once you did it you would get whatever the fuck out of it, they never decided the rewards. But yeah that was coming too.
Difficulty, again, was what you made it. You could go all in self imposed SSF style and enjoy a relative difficulty, especially in the raid content and flagging. Or you could go in all whale yourself into BIS or even dumpster dive for out of era raid gear which was cheap as hell and faceroll your way to current raid game since everything was tradable and nothing was bind unless you equipped a legendary which then became bound. Not all combos were like the other. Some were shit, while others were broken, like was said by D so there was difficulty in choosing the right/wrong combos. Like it is here with the SHD/SHM/... combos that just win.
I personally had problems with NtoV first (when I joined this was the end game) I had problems beating XXX and YYY bosses. So back to AA grinding etc.... Then I had that shit on farm mode gearing up, etc... But then I could not beat Sleeper, which was the super boss of Velious. He dropped valuable augs. So back to the AA grind...yyada yada... Same with luclin, I had problems with certain bosses like the snake dick in Sra, which you had to beat for POP flag, But htn I finally beat him and a nice sense of accomplishment. Etc....POP flags, yeah some were difficult. But I eventually did them. then POT I could not solo the gauntlet so I had a buddy help out, and we ended up teaming up and farming that place for a while before I quit. We tried Emp a few times we could not beat him, and never even tried Xeb... After I quit my buddy finally got emp seru down by himself with a pet cuck. I remember how giddy he was on discord. And this is from a standpoint of regular casual players that didnt play EQ for eons before.
So that was my take on THJ. I had 3 characters. I strted with SK/SHM/ROG, then rolled a pet cuck with a bard, then I made a pally/monk/ber at the end which became my fave. But by far the pet cuck was the most powerful of the three at that time. THey were decent geared but def not all Bis, prob more like 60% bis? Too much of a grind... I had 2 others all leveled up and AAed and I was funneling gear to them but never played them.I dont even remember what they were, lol. Oh, yeah one was a BRD/RNG/SK which was ok but the CD on the ranger stuff was too fucking long. Meaning he was a monster DPS while all his CDs were popped, but ehn a big ole nothingburger when they were on CD. I used him mostly to farm out pieces for epics, which I sold for profit. I used to do like 3-4 at a time. The BRD one, the MAG one were the popular ones that everyone wanted. They sold for like 300K-350K at the time I was doing them and sold ASAP, just prior to PoP going live.
