Until secrets gets fired for having another one of his notorious meltdowns or banning someone calling him a tranny boy.

Imagine what it's like being so retarded you trust someone who isn't even honest about their Sex.

EQ legends will have massive censorship/banning issues with both secrets and rogean behind it. Both are widely known to do bans over the smallest things especially when it comes to politics and even if you say for example the 2020 banwave that happened on p99s forum wasn't due to rogean it was still due to the moderators under him which he allowed or didn't care to know about.

It's going to be a shitshow regardless.

He has mega goofball libtards as guides/GMs. I am fully aware and promise. The mother of all red flags, by his own decision.

So much hate lol...

At any rate, I don't care who's making it. I've tried to get back into EverQuest numerous times. The TLPs hold my interest for a year at best. Playing on Live bores me to death. Plain and simple, every attempt I have made to get back in to EverQuest has failed over the years. This new solo-able EverQuest that lets me multiclass might be the one thing that gets me back into the game. If not, oh well.
A game holding your interest for a year is a pretty long time.

I don't know what about a soloable EQ would hold your interest for longer. Like, once you beat the content why would you farm it without a community to keep the game interesting?

I think this is where THJ shined. They were in the process of adding things like SSF etc.. made EQ more of an ARPG than an MMO. Even for being a more solo oriented server the community was very active.

I still think the idea to explore in EQ is to run a whole party from one interface. Sort of like a party based single player RPG. If they did that, man that would be the ticket.

Log in, chose a party of 5-6, then enter the world with controls for all of them. robust follow system, shit like that. This game just lends itself to this because most people already multibox. And the game is set up in such a way that youre pretty much just setting up shop in an area and going to town. So this is not like some sort of action RPG. Most classes hardly need inputs either which also lends itself to this idea.
You just invented Samdaman.

Like somebody mentioned earlier, this probably lasts 1 year tops. Trannies aren't exactly known for being "stable" and the inevitable meltdown seems all but guaranteed.

Yeah, live EQ as a proficient 6 boxer is more like a party based ARPG with a very high APM ceiling and fast kill mob speeds (15s). Unfortunately there really isn't a way to make that kind of gameplay accessible to most of the potatoes that play EQ without neutering the game for people like me.

Man a year? You guys have some heavy expectations. If I try this, I fully expect 2-4 weeks of messing around. Anything longer than that is a bonus.

For you people living under a rock heres the short version:

Two emu devs worked with secrets to make an emu called The Heroes Journey (THJ)

THJ was wildly successful and made millions of dollars in donations.

THJ devs reached out to dbg to do a collaboration/get an official partnership/permission going while they were developing it but dbg never responded.

Secrets lied to the thj devs/gave bad advice all while secretly working with dbg to steal their idea.

Dbg sued and had thj shut down.

Secrets took the code base they developed and is launching it as everquest legends.

So after many failed and unpopular emu projects secrets basically used thj to a/b test what worked, stole it and got dbg to let them release it officially.

The people who actually created this cool idea are making their own game called hollowed oath, it has its own thread. If you think this idea is cool and want to give money to anyone, give it to them, fuck secrets and dbg.

PS: Never trust a tranny
Was this tactic in the Art of the Deal????
How can you trust a tranny? They don't trust their own biology......Everything is Ghey and Fuckin' Retarded. It's all about the $$$$$$$$. C.R.E.A.M.

This is probably a financial success if they even get a few thousand subs for half a year. This could not have cost much money to do

At least somebody tried something truly different for once. I don't give a shit who that person is as long as they try.
TLPs are fun for pure nostalgia, and you shouldn't be looking at *any* game to keep your attention for years at a time. That's an obsession, not a hobby. I am enjoying the emus a lot, because they are interesting takes on the old theme. THJ was probably the best EQ themed fun I have had in decades. What they had done up until the lawsuit was super well polished. Still annoys me that they did all that without getting a license from DBG so they could have kept going, but that's how it goes.

This could be a good thing in the long run. If people are able to homebrew and have DBG be publisher to control the $$$ that opens a lot of doors. For folks that want to have total control I can see them not liking that part, but when you're playing in someone else's IP pool, you play by their rules.

I could see DBG opening up client and server code under a limited license if this works out well and yields a lot of $$$. Let people go hog wild but limit player counts to 500 or something for free so the eqemu peeps can still do their thing, but require them to sign on with DBG if they end up making something hugely popular.

Personally wasn't interested until I saw that both Rogean and Secrets were collaborating on it.

Rogean obviously has a really good grasp of what made classic EQ great. And after playing Project Quarm, I personally have a ton of respect for Secrets and her ability to balance common sense modern QoL changes while retaining a classic feel.

Just my personal take, but this could either be really amazing or a complete fucking disaster. Doubt it will be in between.

I know this thread is moving fast...

But lulz @ Rogean being all saint-ified

Also, go back and read some of the "at the time" happening of when Secrets left p99 or whatever, their own new servers and emus etc- now Rogain and Secrettown are buddy buddy together in this brand new super awesome Daybreak classic EQ goodness!

Guess now they both can finally (admit) to making stacks of cash off of EQ! Gratz.

But neither are spotless even in their own emu scenes.

I expect my pre-ban for even mentioning this

Now... for what it is from what was given so far? sure looks fun, will try out*

*if not pre-banned for daring to not say these people are gods gift to mmo/emu community

I don't give a shit about any of that tbh. All I care about is the game they are making.

I don't expect them to be "spotless" or "saints." I have no expectations at all, honestly.

I'll check out the game when it's available and if it's fun I'll play it. If it's not, I won't.

Yeah I am there with ya, I guess your post was just one of the many I quoted so sorry its not really /at you/ really, but the sentiment.

Was there any info on the /enhanced visuals/ part? is this a new "game" i.e. engine? or just an official super mod of EQ1

The reason that EQ does not hold my interest for longer than a year at a time is because that's about how long it takes for a TLP server goes from being playable as one character joining random groups to having to be in perfect groups which leads to everybody playing their own boxed group. Now I know the nerds will be along to torch me on number of months and so forth fact checking like a mother fucker, but I'm just talking in general.

If EQ was to build boxing support INTO the game client, I would probably play it all the way to Live. The simple fact is, I am not personally ok with using 3rd party software to play the game and I suck ass at boxing via alt-tab.

You as an efficient boxer get a lot more out of Everquest than I ever will simply because you CAN and DO box your own groups and enjoy doing it from what I have gathered from your posts here on the forums over the years. I respect that. I just am a shit boxer and never have been even slightly good at it.

I would potentially get in to using 3rd party software to do it, but I've also seen how corrupt DBG is and I personally would not want to work on a six box crew for years only to have them banned some day when one of the corrupt fuckers at DBG decides "today is the day we crack down". Fuck that. Games like EverQuest are a major investment of time for their players. Any chance of having your time and effort erased by a GM having a bad day is a NO GO, FULL STOP for me.

Everquest Legends isn't a perfect concept, but the fact that you can multiclass and potentially do the same on one character that would take a box crew to do in Everquest but allow me to do it in an environment where I don't have to worry about losing all my effort due to a pissed off corrupt employee is a good thing to me.

If DBG would build boxing software into their game client, I wouldn't need Everquest Legends. But, we all know that DBG will never do that because somebody, somewhere is getting a kickback.

So... there's why.

Biggest difference between legends and THJ and why legends will fail.

Aporia and Co - talk to the community, listen to feedback, implement change.

Rogean and Secrets - We know what's best, deal with it.

I dunno, to me, Secrets and Rogean seem like a great combo to shepherd this forward.

On the vision thing, first off, I assume they'll be able to involve other devs and parties give it's a super cool and unique project given the Daybreak partnership.

I have a hard time blaming either of them on bans or lack of flexibility on server vision. Showing weakness indecision when managing a gigantic community with highly disparate views is a recipe for disaster. The rules are the rules, the vision is the vision. Especially for a passion project. Every change from classic was highly scrutinized, and many things that people wanted changed were also highly scrutinized by both sides. There's really no winning - which I think is different on a purely green fields server like THJ.

In terms of community engagement, Aporia had a great attitude. And I loved THJ. But there's a reasonable question as to whether the community centric approach, twitch co sponsors etc were directly designed to maximize population/engagement for financial means. And if so, doesn't Secrets/Rogean now have that same incentive? This probably strides the same passion project/financial success balance for them that it did for the Aporia and Cata.

Maybe this post will blow up in my face, but I'm just excited to have some version of this server back, especially one that can be build upon fearlessly without worrying about being shut down. Maybe even some of the good work can trickle back into the live game.
