Every game that designs around high end racing and neckbeard competition ends up being a completely shit game. The best solution for devs is to ignore all that and not care if someone clears your hard raid zone in 2 minutes after expansion release if players are having fun.

The idea that you should cater and design your game around a toxic unemployed 2-5% of your player base is completely retarded. In no other industry would anyone do that. Cater to the whales, cater to the masses of casuals atleast that shit somewhat makes sense.
Would add one caveat, let your unemployed neckbeards stand around in the tunnel flossing their sick gear so us casual scum can be envious. Everyone wins

Edit: worth noting I'm making a general statement about MMOs, I don't care about your fiery avenger in 2026

So even the p99 and dads agree that xp pots are pay to win, just that pay to win doesn't matter that much on this server so it's ok.

I'm also glad the retirees are out to talk about what is and isn't hard in video games.

Yeah the people running MQ2 to have their characters be literal bots are bad players. Everquest is a game where being awake makes you a competent player.

It's the only game that comes to mind that people will put more effort into not playing than playing.

I'm okay with a low skill game. I didn't quit mythic raiding because I couldn't do it, I quit because it made me actively hate human beings who were otherwise cool, nice people, but were too retarded to priority target swap while dodging swirlies while crossing the entire boss arena while throttling add kill rate while maintaining an interrupt rotation on the boss while making sure we didn't push him into transition outside of a specific 6 second window because then there would still be tentacles up or god forbid another set would spawn and you'd lose half your bloodlust burn phase.

Every class EXCEPT Beastlord and Berserker requires their PoSky quests done to be unlocked.
That shares a timer/lockout with group raids. I have to imagine that will be changed because its pretty crap.

Where'd they say 7 day lockouts? Was there another stream or they confirm it in Discord somewhere? That's definitely too long, but that helps Dad gamers more than degens because they can schedule around once a week and nolifers can pound the THJ 14 hour lockouts no problem.

There's no trading anything good, CoF is like the one exception right now

Efreeti weapons which will be the BIS is most cases are not only dropable, but can be disarmed.
The rest of Naggy's table including epic pieces
The rest of Vox's table, maybe even Instant Rez staff.
All the useful Phinny loot is tradable or MQable
All of Master Yael's table. Earthshaker will be strong on this server.
Most of the good Hate mini drops are MQable
Most of the Fear Raid loot is MQable or dropable.

Really the only "good" loot in classic that can't be MQed or dropped is Inny loot and hate/fear trash sets.
Same goes for Kunark outside of PD loor and a couple of VP items.

Every decision I've seen made appears to be to make the solo game as long and as grindy as possible.. This is the anti casual server.. Im tryna make the game better but there are so many dick eaters in chat

From what I have heard so far this is meant to be a solo server. Your personal enjoyment is the only thing that matters. There's no competition other than what you and whoever you want to compete with make up. If tradeskills and baz are useful, great. They probably aren't going to be required, but the social component for solo/casual friendly servers is mostly just chat.

What is the actual game advantage in a game where everyone is going to be able to get to cap and grind out their AAs in short order? Getting to the end game faster just means you reach the end sooner. A little extra gold from baz as everyone else reaches where you are in a few hours/days doesn't really move the needle.

There might be some soul eroding farms like the dodge/block/shielding augs off Kerafyrm on THJ. Getting to that a day or two sooner isn't going to make a lick of difference.

XP pots in eq are just a convenience. Personally, I put that in the QOL corner, and not the power corner. If they are totally unbalanced and somehow allow people to interfere with my private instances, that would be a different story.

However it turns out, I hope we all get to play soon.
I think the more honest framing is: "Yes, XP pots are technically a form of P2W because they monetize progression acceleration. However, on a mostly solo, instanced server, the actual impact on other players is probably pretty small." That's a coherent position.

But trying to argue that monetized progression acceleration somehow stops being P2W entirely because the server is casual-friendly just feels like twisting definitions to avoid a label people don't like. The only reason people mentally separate XP boosts from P2W now is because the industry normalized them over the last 15+ years.

At the end of the day, server design changes the severity of the impact, but it doesn't erase the mechanic itself.
