I am curious: did you guys lost your cool the same way when Champions of Norrath, Everquest Online Adventures, Lords of Everquest or Legends of Norrath were released? Those were also unpure and not according to the true vanilla product, right?
Sir, we won’t tolerate any EQOA slander on these boards! Don’t make me tap the sign…

Man thinks 40 hours a week is the "heavy end of casual"
You do realize where you are posting, right? 40 hours a week on a new game isn't even close to poopsock territory. 1/3 or more being AFK. Lots of hanging out in New Seb just chatting in general and guild chat. Lots of running around exploring things. My very first run to 50 was grindy, figuring out new and changed systems, spending a night at 50 just trolling the shit out of Befallen on d4 to farm weapons and starter armor. Once I finish up the current run to 50 I am on I will slap on my meta build and start poking at personal instance Sky.

I'm aware of where i'm at that's the point, you guys have a bias/warped perception of what casual is. 40 hours a week isn't a casual friendly game that's a full time Job. Actual casual gamers play like 5-15 hours a week, you're progressing through the game 3-8 times as quick as they will. For single player/seasonal ARPGs 10-40 hours should be done with MSQ, around 100 hours played is like 98% done with completionist content. EQL looks solo friendly, it is not remotely close to casual friendly.

You can get a toon to 50 with an ok set of starting gear in under 20 hours played. EQL is insanely casual friendly. You would know this if you played it. I get that you are just here to complain for the sake of complaining, but you are going to get fact checked when you do that.

With how much you played, you should have all classes unlocked, full AAs and be +9 at least on every piece of gear and you should've been there with 50-100 hours less played time.

But again you thought 40 hours a week was " On the heavy end of casual" You have no clue what casual players want. Casuals are also gonna spend more time exploring/just chatting than you did.

Didn't you guys just pillory me for saying this was not a casual board? 🙃 40 hours a week is a full time job, not a hobby.
Sorry, but still firmly in hobby range. You obviously missed the 40s-current US where people are glued to their TV/computer/phone 24/7/365. Playing 3-4 hours a night and being afk for 2-3 hours is less than people spend on twatter and reddit and watching sportsball.

Q. How much does the casual Gamer play a week.

AI A.
A casual gamer typically plays between 4 to 8 hours per week, which usually breaks down to roughly 1 hour a day or a few longer sessions squeezed into the weekend. By contrast, the broader average for all gamers is around 8 to 13 hours weekly.
Casual play limits generally fall into a few distinct tiers depending on the platform or lifestyle:
  • Micro-Casual (Mobile/Handheld): 1–4 hours a week (e.g., short puzzle or match-3 sessions during commutes).
  • Standard Casual: 4–8 hours a week (e.g., 30–60 minutes in the evening after work or a few hours on a weekend day).
  • Core/Enthusiast: 15–30 hours a week (where gaming becomes a primary hobby).
  • Hardcore: 35+ hours a week (closely resembling a full-time job)
Q. How long is the average single player RPG Video game?

AI A.

The average single-player RPG (Role-Playing Game) takes 30 to 50 hours to complete if you stick primarily to the main story. However, if you mix in a moderate amount of exploration and side content, that average jumps closer to 60 to 90 hours.
Because RPGs vary drastically by sub-genre and how thoroughly you play them, tracking community aggregates on platforms like HowLongToBeat reveals three clear, distinct tiers of playtime.

Playtime Breakdown by Playstyle
  • Main Story Only (30–50 Hours): The developer's intended critical path. Players rush through major narrative events, bypassing optional dungeons, grinding, and optional faction questlines.
  • Main + Extra Content (60–90 Hours): The standard "organic" playthrough. This includes completing the story while also exploring side quests, leveling up companion characters, and pursuing optimal gear.
  • Completionist (100–150+ Hours): The absolute maximum. Finding every hidden collectible, conquering post-game superbosses, unlocking all achievements, and maximizing character levels.

AI agrees with me therefor i win. This has been what i've been saying from the start. The MSQ of the game(hitting level 50) is reasonable, the grind just isn't what casual gamers expect.

40 hours a week goes beyond anything you described. Let's say I blow 2.5 hours a night on TV and sports during a weekday, that's 12.5. weekend. 3 hours tv/sports and 3 hours other shit weekend that's 12 more for a total of 24.5 hours. 40 hours isn't casual.

I'm a true casual now, I get maybe 2 to 3 hours a week gaming on weeknights. Max 8 hours a day weekend divided between morning, afternoon and evening playtime. That's like 19 hours. That's casual.
