One of these doesn't make sense.

When you buy a car you compare it to other cars,
When you buy food you compare it to other food,
When you buy tools you compare them to other tools,
When you buy a video game you compare it to the cost of a burrito or cost if a drink at an expensive bar.
People paying a $10 box price is worth your daily tears alone.

It's also amusing see people in shock that a company that has used a profit model of charging for expansions, a more expensive monthly sub, and an even more predatory cash shop simultaneously for decades is now carrying that over to their other title.

if the market doesn't agree with that strategy they have multiple other options mentioned in just the last 2-3 pages here.

The eq emu model has fucked with a lot of heads tbh. People are used to getting a ton of (sometimes) great content for free or for optional donations, and that has set the bar to a certain extent.

I think a lot of people are still subconsciously putting EQL in the emu basket, despite the fact that it's not an emu.

This is understandable considering they are using an emu-based idea and two well-known emu devs.

But it's not an emu.

The most similar product is Diablo 2 Resurrect. Which was box price and paid DLC after it had been out well over a year. PoE, League of Legends, CS, Palworld, BG3, Fortnight ect all really only have one monetization method, but for some reason MMO players are still stuck in this covid era midset where they don't have any other options but pay for overpriced video games.

Never engage with substance because you know you're wrong.

Yeah but diablo 2 resurrect actually made game graphics better, and updated the player characters too. So it wasn't really a one to one compare, just resell the game again 20 yrs later with minor tweaks.

Almost lvl 10. Warrior/Cleric right now but trying to decide between Mage, Wiz, Enchanter, druid, or shaman for the 3rd.

Game KNOWS the 15 items I need from Sky and is deliberately not dropping them. Shenanigans.

Mage and Wiz would bring much needed damage to the lineup. War/Cleric on its own doesn't do much.

Mage or Wiz definitely feels good on your first loadout with no gear. Mage water pet will carry you pretty hard and the Wiz nuke you get at 18 is out of era so it hits like a truck

Gotta recommend Enchanter though but they trivialize the entire game lol

Ahhh yes steam. Where you download a launcher, that then downloads the.... native launcher. Something eq players have never actually utilized, no idea why they didnt bring it there

You also seem to be communicating about it here, right now. Or you go to reddit. Or start you a little youtube channel and voice all your quality takes.
...Because no one likes to keep things in one centralized area. Gtfo out of here, the moment something comes to steam and if it doesn't cost additional most people start using steam because of the monetary protection. "Oh this company scammed you or you feel like this isn't worth it? Here's a refund"

If it looks like an Emu, plays like an Emu, but it has the blessing of DBG it's a fancy Emu like p99 and Quarm.

I mean, they already have TLPs they shit out every year. It's just a sub price. They don't charge another flat fee for every xpac unlock afterwards.

The content here isn't THAT custom to warrant it.

Well in true EQ form, maybe you'll only ever have to pay for the 2 latest expacs! Just wait for the 3rd expansion and you poorbois can go to Veeshan's Peak!

It's definitely not an emu. It's got significantly less content than any emu I've ever played.

No, they've done content patches with D2R. New items, new QOL stuff, new systems, new Class with the DLC. They put more work into D2R not less. It's almost companies don't need to nickle and dime you to turn a profit.

Wiz 100%. You can nuke the fuck out of everything while the War takes hits and you will have all the ports on every other build you do later (rituals).

You haven't played a lot of the emus I've played then lol.

But to your point, there are plenty of emus with way more content- though they are mostly servers that have had years to build content. But they're free.

I love eq emu. I've been playing them since 2004 when I quit live. They are all passion projects, where people dedicate a ton of their time to provide entertainment for a largely thankless audience.

And honestly DBG should be thankful for the eq emu project. There is absolutely no doubt in my mind that EverQuest would have faded into obscurity long long ago if not for the emulator servers.

Like I said, all that stuff set the bar pretty high for DBG to charge a monthly fee on top of charging for each content release, even if the prices they are charging are pretty minimal.

But theoretically I have zero issue with the idea of charging for it. People should be able to get paid for their work. It's up to the audience to decide whether it's worth it to them or not.
