YEah it was something like the level cap was never raised with the first half, but it should have been? Because all the raid shit was too hard? And OOW actually finally raised the cap?

Yea tacvi was pretty much impossible with out lvl 70 max. It was a fun raid though, and god raids were actually pretty cool. There was a lot of flagging BS though if I remember right, they changed it after an expansion or two.

Have you played god? Its great now. Really well put together at this point.
That's great, too bad half my guild (including me) quit the game within a couple months of GoD's release and never had a chance to see much of it because of the broken ass state it was released in.

Plus WOW hit about that time, or was it the beta for WOW?
I'm a bit hazy on the exact timing but I remember quitting EQ to play City of Heroes for a few months, then the WoW open beta came out and my first run through Deadmines was such an incredible experience that I couldn't imagine playing Everquest again for at least 20 years.

To me GoD was a flavor fail. Went from killing gods to fighting goats named pixxt xaauvu or some shit.

What happened was they 'completed' the expansion by releasing the other half of it, calling it Omens of War, and charging another 30 bucks for anyone still dumb/masochistic enough to be one of their customers at that point.

Our guild actively had a level 1 GM Dev in our raids (on live) in GoD to do GM corpse summons and GM Rezes. We wiped for weeks on end with the devs taking tuning notes before most of us just up and quit game. Again.. this was all on live, not beta. It was a complete shit show.

Gavinmad Gavinmad is exactly right. GoD and OOW were supposed to be one complete xpac (including a level jump from 65-70). Devs got lazy / EQ accountants god greedy and they split the xpac in two to rush GoD out the door with everything tuned for level 70 and itemization missing from the other half of the xpac. It was also about the same time Warcraft closed beta invites started going out and word of mouth was spreading about "polish" & QoL vs EQ. That was the end for EQ as most knew it.

Exactly. Just to put things into more perspective, the 14 Day Rant was because of a broken Plane of Time trial raid that existed because the rest of PoTime wasn't ready yet. GoD was a broken EXPANSION because the other half of content wasn't ready yet....

Sure it wasn't Rathe Council? That was the big PoP cockblock. We beat FoH into PoTime, but everyone was stuck on a broken Rathe for months. Afterlife and TR squeezed in just before us. (After the devs patched RC). I think FoH was stumbling around a bit in P1 of Time, missing the fact that everything needed to die at the same time and they ranted about splitting the raid up to do so.

Its been 2 decades now and my memory is a bit fuzzy.

PoEB was absolutely broken on purpose, but the 14 Day Rant was due to the fact that the Time Trials were only accessible by 18 people at a time. This is what drove Furor over the edge.

I've been listening to a lot of the EQ dev interviews on this channel, and it sounds like the period right after LDoN was a complete shit show. The entirety of the dev team leadership got moved to other projects (mainly EQ2, it seems) shortly after work began on Gates of Discord and they brought up a bunch of more junior members to work on the expansion. Then all the stuff that was rumored (expansion was originally meant for Lv. 70 before getting split up and launched prematurely) appeared to really have happened. They also consciously took a turn away from the D&D vanilla medieval fantasy themes and went into some weird shit, so it didn't even really feel like EverQuest. Definitely a perfect recipe to alienate tons of hardcore players just prior to the World of Warcraft beta launch.

Was gonna post the same thing. They were basically pulling people out the gm bullpen with no dev experience to become full-time devs. All because of fucking eq2 of all things.

Its a reoccurring subject in all of his interviews. Anyone that had a shred of experience and knowledge were moved and the company was unfortunately all in on eq2. It wasnt until DoDH where they basically caught back up, but at that point a majority of the population was long gone.

Its unfortunate because outside of tbs, tss to voa were top tier eq. The content tbs actually had was pretty good, but was an extremely shallow expansion. Every other expansion in that span was great. Secrets of Faydwer probably being my favorite.

Underfoot was my favorite, Convorteum is the best zone in the history of EQ, thats a hill I'm prepared to die on.
