Totally. But surely competent people exist that could replace the ones that arent. Here lies their problem.

I agree with the advice that this isn't a game people should expect to endlessly play, but most of the hate for this game is due to this game copying a much better version that the owning company forced to close. IP theft aside, if you're going to shut down a third party group and try to rip off on their ideas, you need to execute it well.Buddy got me into this. Gotta say - I'm not really understanding the hate. It's a pretty decent trip down memory lane. Enough new mechanics to make you think about some interactions a little, but it's basically the same. It's like fucking your wife's sister.
Anyway, mostly amused at all the "oh, I poopsocked this and there's nothing to do" "how could they fuck this up.". Guys, you paid $20 for this. I KNOW you spent more on games you played way less on Steam. Take it for what it is. Some power gaming dad game, play it till it gets boring, quit, and forget about it. Ain't that fuckin serious. Ya'll act like this was ever gonna be anything but an extreme niche game.
Just because a game is made doesn't mean you gotta play it for the rest of your life. Knock out a month and go play something else.

Not that DBG has their finger on the pulse of their own community, but it doesn't really take a rat to find out about an emulation server when they're making tens of thousands of dollars a month with thousands of daily users for years.Supposedly the people who own the EQ IP (DBG) didn't even know about said server until a different EMU developer ratted them out.
Which server are you talking about? THJ def didn’t have “thousands of daily users for years.”Not that DBG has their finger on the pulse of their own community, but it doesn't really take a rat to find out about an emulation server when they're making tens of thousands of dollars a month with thousands of daily users for years.
In the legal thread on THJ, that's how it was portrayed. The whole thing that kicked off the lawsuit was the email. Then DBG assigned the janitor (probably) to try to play the EMU server to collect evidence and couldn't even figure out how to properly scout zones with a rogue (who is invis to all at level 1).Not that DBG has their finger on the pulse of their own community, but it doesn't really take a rat to find out about an emulation server when they're making tens of thousands of dollars a month with thousands of daily users for years.
I don't know how trustworthy it is butWhich server are you talking about? THJ def didn’t have “thousands of daily users for years.”
Worldserver Name: The Heroes' Journey [Multiclass, Solo\Duo, No-Box]
Server Version:
Server Status: Down (Last Seen: 09/24/25 03:02 AM EST)
Average Players: 1713
Max Players: 4525
I don’t know when the server popped off but in our own threads here you can see it launched less than 8 months from the lawsuit and it was closed down within like 10 monthsI don't know how trustworthy it is but
EQEmulator - Server Info
EQEmulator is an open-source Everquest emulation project for creating custom Everquest servers.www.eqemulator.org
Regardless of how it shook out, THJ wasn't some underground secret that Secrets ratted out. Secrets might've been involved in pushing for action against THJ, but that's uhh, more of a snake move than a rat move?
