No way Fungi was selling for 400$ by the time a rogue could solo the king.

That is not how the RMT market works.

People with money on hand don't care about shit like that. They want an item with zero effort from a reliable seller.

I've bought shit from people on this forum, which I could have gotten for 40% of the price from some anon seller with no reputation or verifiable transactions.

Prefer not to get scammed or banned, so clear choice.

I don’t think a 52 Monk solo’d the classic dragons until @qxx did it on Tecknoe in like Prophecy of Ro-SoF timeframe.
Correct. Teckno Destrocto was the first monk to ever solo Nagafen. It was on the Vazaelle server. He used a metric ton of potions.

Yes and no. I had the timeline slight askew. He did it during POP (2003) vice kunark/velious (2000-2001) as i originally thought. I had quit eq during luclin and didnt really follow the game much at all afterwards just remember seeing the video of it at that time.

I had no idea what prophecy of ro or SoF was so had to google it. That was like 2007 or something waaaay later.

Not gonna lie I'm loving coming back and I think the last time I logged in was maybe 2006. I started on Teek which was cool but I changed over to Fangbreaker and it's been a lot more fun for me, much slower XP and limitations still, and PoP is opening up in a few weeks, so it's prime time. One thing that surprised me is the community is actually full and popping from what I've seen. Obviously noob zones are still whatever's but there is a solid core playing, which has me hyped to push into the raid end, I have a lot of free time these days =D

I've bitched a ton about EQ on here as of this past year, and swore I would never touch the game again.

Here's the thing though. I do NOT hate EverQuest. I actually really fucking like playing EverQuest.

The only thing that makes me not want to play the game is DBG/DPG. The company is the issue; not the game. And, when you get right down to it, it's not the whole company that is the problem. Its very specific individuals that are in positions of power that never should have been put there because they have no fucking clue how to run a company.

There's a million different things any one of us could point out as bad shit that keeps us from want to support DBG/DPG, but I'll only relate one, and that's the out right corruption that is prevalent on every single server of the EverQuest. Any time you see obvious RMT bots that play 24 hours a day 365 days a year on every server and they are literally protected by GMs in game as well as Admins on the forums (don't you dare point out this is going on because that's "name and shame"... here have a suspension and think about what you did), that is corruption. That's been going on for many, many years in EverQuest, and there is zero indication that it will ever end.

Replace the corrupt employees and stop making fucking retarded decisions, and people like myself will come back to the game. Until then... I have no need to play a game where I buy the game, buy the expansions, pay the monthly subscription (no I don't use Krono), and still have a 50/50 chance of getting a suspension or ban on my account simply for upsetting the wrong corrupt employee. I want basic expectations of being able to continue playing what I pay for. I learned the hard way years ago when I ate a weeks suspension for SIMPLY BEING IN THE WRONG ZONE AT THE WRONG TIME because some GM's friend was pissed off that someone had the camp he/she wanted. Fuck that.

Do I miss EverQuest? Yes.

But, I'm not retarded enough to go back and pay a company that will wipe their ass with my account anytime they feel like it.

I'm not sure what Runescape did differently than EQ over 25 years but have to give them props. I've never been a Runescape person but just out of curiosity, I checked out this video because it spoke about a Roadmap so I watched it. They seem to be willing to address mistakes, make the right changes, embrace community voice, and also move the game forward. Again, I know next to nothing about Runescape but I wish videos like this would come out from Daybreak. Who knows what kind of game they would have if they had an updated EQ with a lot of QoL pieces addressed.

Yeah, Runescape puts out a Roadmap video with

and EQ players get "We are tired of making a roadmap because we don't really have a roadmap and were just listing ingame events...."

I've mentioned it before, but I was one of the 50 uberguilders invited to the original EQ Summit at SOE in San Diego and I went on to be the Rogue Class Correspondent. I helped Prathun tune some of the poorly functioning upcoming rogue aa. They even offered me a contract job but the pay was so laughably bad and I had to move to San Diego so I never even considered it seriously.

I don't mention the bona fide's to try to and flex (which is kinda pathetic), rather only to show that, at the time, I was really hardcore.

I almost can't imagine there being an EQ summit today where 50 uberguilders are invited out to give input on the game. The game was so much bigger back then.

I don’t think a 52 Monk solo’d the classic dragons until @qxx did it on Tecknoe in like Prophecy of Ro-SoF timeframe.

Tecknoe was first as I recall, as well. Way after the 52 cap was added. Naggy was being one-grouped by 60's when the cap was added.

Trying to remember who it was that soloed Trak first. Was a Monk as well, I believe. It might have been before the 52 Naggy solo. Think it was at 65. But I really can't remember, it was too long ago now.

No way Fungi was selling for 400$ by the time a rogue could solo the king.

I also have...questions.

After I quit Necro due to raid uselessness circa Velious (back then they couldn't land anything on raid targets), I ran Rogue for a year or so until it made me quit the game for three years. Rogue couldn't even solo light blues for exp for most of that era. Luclin-era, with the EPIC and a few AAs (Combat Fury 1 and Combat Agility 1 IIRC) I could barely solo a light blue at 60, and once I did, I was in for like 15 minutes of regen time. It was kinda pathetic. Getting a Velious VP with Invigorate at least dramatically reduced the regen time but it was still insanely boring.

I'm talking about entranceway mobs in places like Katta or Seb. Certainly didn't even try going after any nameds, much less the Spore King. That would have needed a lot more time and inflation, and by then the tunic wouldn't have been a big deal anymore.

In late 2004 when I came back, I sold all my stuff and got some Baz gear to start over as a Monk, and it was a whole different world. Should have just done that to begin with. Got a Fungi Tunic (which was now cheap) and a Copper Hammer of Striking to twink. By 60 I could most definitely solo light blues one after another, and DBs, even with gear that was a couple expansions old. Could take down nameds, sometimes with needing to BS about with FD to get them alone (especially the Spore King with all the healers around, not sure when I first soloed him but I did eventually, probably 70).

There's basically no comparison between Rogue and Monk in those eras in terms of soloing, it might as well be two different games. I think the Fungi Tunic itself was selling for about 10k plat by late 2004 but it's hard to recall. All I can remember is that I got the tunic, the CHOS, and after a little while, a really good 2HB with the plat I got from selling all my meager droppable Rogue gear. Think the 2HB had the level 50 proc that did 120 damage, want to say it was the Trak drop. Went back to the Katta Castellum LBs that my Rogue couldn't deal with and rolled over 2-3 of them at a time.

Never paid any attention to Runescape before. It looks really good. It's like a parallel universe EQ where real money and effort is being put into supporting the game and making it still matter.

Spot on! There are corrupt Daybreak employees who make money selling Krono and RMT. The question is not "who is involved", it's who "isn't involved" at Daybreak.

The best thing that could happen is to sell the IP to another studio. Until they clean house, avoid this crooked company and the terrible staff.

I also have...questions.

I edited down your wall of skepticism.
I've already said it twice, but I don't remember the exact time frame (though I really want to say it was between late '02 and mid '03). However, what I do remember is:

1. During the period in which I was farming the Fungi Tunics, they were still extremely valuable or I wouldn't have been wasting so much time doing it.
2. The camp was extremely difficult. Every time I managed to kill the King I was always near death, too. I distinctly remember a few times where the fight came down to the last swing or three.

The hardest part really wasn't the King, it was breaking the spawn up and needing to stagger the death of the surrounding shrooms so they didn't respawn and kill me or heal the King. A respawned shroom while I was engaged with the King was an immediate Escape or death if it was on cooldown.

I was very well-geared rogue (I always was until I quit) and I maxed every worthwhile AA. Still, things had to go absolutely perfectly or I'd have to use Escape and try again. I still died more than a few times despite using every-single-tool I could get my hands.

1. Locustlure. 35% slow was huge and the camp wouldn't have been possible without it. I had a Willsapper too, but the slow on that weapon seemed to get resisted more. I can't remember if the Spinebreak slow poison existed at that time, but if it did, I would have used it if it were better than the weapon procs.
2. Stanos' gloves (30% click haste) on top of my 40-something worn haste item.
3. Poisons.
4. Kilva's damage shield potions as well as several other sources that stacked.
5. The HP/AC/MR Resist buff from Stanos' BP.
6. Primal Weapon for Avatar buff then I would swap to my better weapons. I'm 99.9% sure I was stat capped, but the 100 atk from Avatar was delicious.
7. As much in-combat regen as I could muster. Pre-nerf Fungi Staff, Dain Ring (10 Regen/10 Damage shield) for one. I don't remember how high I got it, but it was enough to provide a few hundred hp over the duration of the King fight. Significant for the time.
8. I know I had a few clickies that gave me more weapon procs. Symbol of the Planesmasters and Timestone Adorned Ring were two of them but I don't remember what else I had.
9. Mrylokar's gaunts to pull with dispel on mobs that were damage shielded (or whatever other dangerous buff).
10. Mrylokar's beastplate for the click heal I'd use to reduce downtime. It had a much better hp-per-second click than the 'upgraded' bp that came after it.
11. Nightfall (dagger) for snare. (no longer drops in the version I have).
12. The usual stuff like Jboots, Shrunken gob earring, all 5 flowers of functionality, Lodi boots, Blood Orchid Katana, Shield of the Immaculate, Pegasus Cloak, Tiny Cloak of Darkest Night, etc., etc.

I had a bunch of other tools and consumables that I simply can't remember. Despite all that, it was still incredibly difficult.

Something else I don't think you, and the couple of the other skeptics, have taken in to consideration is, at that time, I was on Stormhammer (in Township Rebellion). That server had a completely different economy than regular servers. The population was much, much smaller and very top-heavy. Everything was considerably more expensive. Also, the typical plat farmers didn't really exist for a couple reasons. The server had a low max capacity and the GM presence was constant so the farmers got banned relatively quickly.

I also think the server's demographic was more willing to spend money to get what they wanted, when they wanted it.
