I played on...Karana/Terris-Thule/Prexus/Rathe (same server, merged over and over) IIRC. Was in Clan Ta'Veren (originally Dark Bretheren) for a lot of the 2000's, when I played. Top guild on the server most of the time, sometimes other guilds like Valon or Awaken would pull ahead for a while. Sometimes after a server merge, a guild from the other server would be ahead of us (Brotherhood of the Spider) for a bit. CTV was like a cockroach, though, and would always outlast everybody and keep chugging along. I think the leader (Zamboni) still plays to this very day, or at least he was still the leader the last time I popped on there in 2022 or so.
Oh yeah, it got renamed, it's called Phoenix Rises now. As I understand it, at some point after I left and started doing TLPs, CTV fell out of the long-held #1 spot on the server and started getting roflstomped by The Silent Minority, the long-time #3 guild on the server, which was mostly Euros. CTV was pretty slow and took a long time to do raids, and that slowness seemed to get worse every year, which is why I dropped live and moved to TLPs. Attrition hit the guild pretty hard, so they decided to guild merge with the former #2 guild Loyal Rebellion to form "Phoenix Rises" and compete with the ascendant #3-now-#1 TSM. I guess TSM had huge numbers so they not only stayed #1 even against the fusion, they split into two different guilds (TSM and Scarlet Vengeance) to farm more targets more effectively and compete with itself.
So basically, long story short: The #3 guild rocketed ahead of the top two eventually. #1 guild and #2 guild fused together to compete, still couldn't get back in the lead. Original #3 guild then split into two to compete with itself, now becoming both the #1 and #2 guild while the fusion struggled at #3 and chugs along to this day.
I missed all of this but it's always been interesting to me how there was this total inversion of the guilds on the server and their status. Not sure what's going on with that server now. Scarlet Vengeance became one of the top guilds game-wide and I think they might have moved off the server entirely after some sort of dispute between the SV raid commander and the TSM leadership who still considered themselves the ones in charge despite SV being more successful.
Probably a good story for a Dramaquest episode. I'd certainly like to know more about that whole deal with Silent Minority and Scarlet Vengeance. Wild to me that my old guild, which reigned supreme for over a decade, got ousted so hard by what was ostensibly a Euro guild with TSM. By the time TSM was #1 (and had the kind of numbers to consider splitting) it certainly wasn't a Euro guild anymore, and had a ton of Americans in it that I knew (lots left Phoenix Rises to go to the big league).
* - Bear in mind that most of this is hearsay and hazy memories. I might have a lot of it wrong after the point where I stopped playing. So if anyone knows the story better than I do, feel free to talk about it.
