I think you missed the most important part of being on these forums; don't take anything anyone says to heart.

The best response is usually something along the lines of... Go fuck yourself. Try a few variants, but ultimately, it's the most acceptable response when someone comes at you on these forums.

On that note, to the person about to hit the reply button to this, I got a whole pocket of fuck yous waiting for your ass.
Dont be bringing your mature adult advice up in this conversation, Pharone Pharone .

Imagine trying to get people to believe that you could sell fungi's for $400 when they were on the bazaar and the dude coulda just bought like $20 worth of plat to buy one.
It was like $100 worth of plat to be fair

Source: I bought $100 worth of plat in PoP era and debated buying a fungi vs a bunch of other twink gear

Without a fungi tunic your pocket rocket is going to explode before you can even get it out. You got a spare $400 to prevent that?

Yea I would put it in that range, definitely more than 20$. People have pickled brains on price back then because of the skewed plat versus dollar ratioes back then.

Fungi were second tier on luxury items, about half the price of the very limited sleeper items.

If he managed to get 400$ for it on the luxury server, then he was just lucky.

Wasn't Stormhammer the special server that cost double monthly and was for fancy boys? Is it really surprising that it had a bunch of people with more money than time? Seems like a natural fit

It was actually triple.

And the server's economy was completely fucked. There were a few things that were cheaper, but most stuff that had any demand were stupidly expensive. And, like I said, the GM presence was omnipresent. Gold sellers got their pee-pees smacked pretty fast.

70-IQ troglodytes like Kithani and Kebabman lack the critical thinking to understand that even on regular servers economies varied greatly, but Stormhammer was unique and moving to (and from) the server was tightly controlled. I never bought gold, but I'd be willing to bet my entire net worth that it was never even close to being that cheap on SH.

Are any of you degenerates actually playing the game on Live?

I folded and I'm exploring the Persona system on Xegony (it's where I got punted to after all the server merging).

I play on live every year or two. I'll sub again sometime this summer for the anniversary content, then again for the next expansion. I didn't buy the last expansion.

Sorry, but no.

That's not something I will ever forget because of the way I got paid. The guy mailed me personal checks. I don't remember his name, but he was from Florida and the checks were always $400, $800, or $1200 (that only happened a couple times). Back then, it was a considerable amount of money for my wife and I.

Another thing about the dude that was really strange is that he asked me if I wanted to farm gold for him in a future MMO (it was Horizons). I turned it down because it felt 'off.'

After taking a quick second to look it up, Horizons released in Dec '04 and my dealings with him were long before that so I know my memory about the timing was on track.

Didn't know Horizons ever even came out. That game looked like "the next big thing" for a while, to people that knew about it. The next evolution of EQ / the genre in general. Then it just sort of disappeared off my radar and I assumed it fizzled out or cancelled once WoW took the torch first and proceeded to dominate everything.

Horizons looked so good in development, though. Guessing the end product wasn't much, if it didn't get enough attention for me to know it existed despite being in the target audience for.it.

I had no idea the game even existed until the guy mentioned it to me, but I did check it out after his offer. And I have to agree, it looked like it had a lot of promise. It was very EQ-like. Though I'm pretty sure it crashed hard and didn't last long, but I didn't look for anything but the release date. EQ got decimated by WoW and there's almost no way that a relatively unheard of MMO like Horizons was going to compete with WoW.

Side note-

I talked to my wife (who played EQ with me some) about this whole conversation an hour ago and she mentioned something to me that I had completely forgotten.

She reminded me that the excuse I gave the guy for not wanting to be his farmer was that I only had one PC and didn't have time because of raids -- the guy offered to send me a second PC so that I could do both at the same time. I can't believe I forgot about it, but that was the actual thing that was 'off' about his offer.

My wife and I were both super creeped out and even if he did ship it, we were worried that it might have who-knows-what installed on it. It seemed completely unbelievable that a stranger would send us a PC in exchange for a promise of future labor, but I guess he trusted me after always giving him the product he paid for (I always demanded payment first).

You play an army of boxes though, right? I'd probably be a third wheel, but if you want an actual person to hang with next time you make the rounds, let me know.

I'm genuinely enjoying the game.

I sixbox, yeah, but sometimes drop boxes to group. I'm on Bristlebane though.

I have no ties to the server I'm on. Everyone I knew has been scattered to the wind, but there are a few my old guildmates in Township Rebellion on Luclin.

It blows my mind that the same person (Adetia) has been actively leading the guild for 20+ years. They even climbed back to top 3 serverwide guild status (for a few years, anyway) after the leadership debacle in '04.

Xegony is a pretty good server. I think Bristlebane is the most active though? Bristlebane has an open raiding force that anyone can join in on, Xegony probably has one too.

I talked to Adetia and she said that it has the 'best' raiding guild in the game. I have no idea, but I have an absolute fuckton of catching up to do.

The first time I logged in some random dude started talking to me because I'm unguilded. We bullshit for a bit and I mention I hadn't logged in, in over 20 years and I proudly state "I've got like 650ish AA, how many are there now? 3 or 4000?"

The guy laughs and says -- "That's as good as zero. The average 'good' character has 75,000."

I was absolutely stunned.

I'm just going to be a tourist for awhile and molo the older raid content (that I can) after I out-level it. We'll see if that evolves in to me taking the game seriously after I spend some time smelling roses.

I played on...Karana/Terris-Thule/Prexus/Rathe (same server, merged over and over) IIRC. Was in Clan Ta'Veren (originally Dark Bretheren) for a lot of the 2000's, when I played. Top guild on the server most of the time, sometimes other guilds like Valon or Awaken would pull ahead for a while. Sometimes after a server merge, a guild from the other server would be ahead of us (Brotherhood of the Spider) for a bit. CTV was like a cockroach, though, and would always outlast everybody and keep chugging along. I think the leader (Zamboni) still plays to this very day, or at least he was still the leader the last time I popped on there in 2022 or so.

Oh yeah, it got renamed, it's called Phoenix Rises now. As I understand it, at some point after I left and started doing TLPs, CTV fell out of the long-held #1 spot on the server and started getting roflstomped by The Silent Minority, the long-time #3 guild on the server, which was mostly Euros. CTV was pretty slow and took a long time to do raids, and that slowness seemed to get worse every year, which is why I dropped live and moved to TLPs. Attrition hit the guild pretty hard, so they decided to guild merge with the former #2 guild Loyal Rebellion to form "Phoenix Rises" and compete with the ascendant #3-now-#1 TSM. I guess TSM had huge numbers so they not only stayed #1 even against the fusion, they split into two different guilds (TSM and Scarlet Vengeance) to farm more targets more effectively and compete with itself.

So basically, long story short: The #3 guild rocketed ahead of the top two eventually. #1 guild and #2 guild fused together to compete, still couldn't get back in the lead. Original #3 guild then split into two to compete with itself, now becoming both the #1 and #2 guild while the fusion struggled at #3 and chugs along to this day.

I missed all of this but it's always been interesting to me how there was this total inversion of the guilds on the server and their status. Not sure what's going on with that server now. Scarlet Vengeance became one of the top guilds game-wide and I think they might have moved off the server entirely after some sort of dispute between the SV raid commander and the TSM leadership who still considered themselves the ones in charge despite SV being more successful.

Probably a good story for a Dramaquest episode. I'd certainly like to know more about that whole deal with Silent Minority and Scarlet Vengeance. Wild to me that my old guild, which reigned supreme for over a decade, got ousted so hard by what was ostensibly a Euro guild with TSM. By the time TSM was #1 (and had the kind of numbers to consider splitting) it certainly wasn't a Euro guild anymore, and had a ton of Americans in it that I knew (lots left Phoenix Rises to go to the big league).

* - Bear in mind that most of this is hearsay and hazy memories. I might have a lot of it wrong after the point where I stopped playing. So if anyone knows the story better than I do, feel free to talk about it.
