They are keeping true to the over the top nature of the series. Surprised they kept the tree bit in it. I recall Same Rami not being too proud of that bit in ED1.
His director commentary about it was pretty hilarious. "And it's right about here that I lost every female audience member in the theater", or something close to that.

Was pretty shocked by the gore level in the trailer. Maybe I just don't remember right, but I don't recall ED2 being THAT brutal? I mean yea, he cuts off his hand and such, but it always felt like it had more of a joking/sarcastic or maybe manic? feel to it. This one just seems like it's bordering on gore-porn.

this is the remake of evil dead 1. that one was all serious business and was so gory it was banned for years from cable and movie theaters. evil dead one is no masterpiece, its basically the blueprint for ed 2 but ed2 had a lot more polish and a lot less seriousness. though for some reason when i saw evil dead 2 on video with friends when i was 16, one of my male friends got scared and left the house and wouldnt come back until the movie was over. i always tried to get him to watch the original evil dead but he wouldnt go for it. hehe

Ya, Evil Dead 1 was a serious attempt at horror, while ED2 and AoD were comedy-horror. ED1 is cheesy because of the budget so low you could trip over it (granted I think they were still in college back then), but it was supposed to be a regular horror flick.

I'm going to guess that this ends just like ED1, though.

"It's about this point in the movie where we lose a lot of the female audience members, and I've never been able to figure out why".

I agree with the gore porn (which worries me). The gore in Evil Dead 2 was super campy, literal rivers of blood. This one is trying to look realistic, but this one is also going pure horror and not the half and half that Evil Dead 2 walked so well.
I am a huge Evil Dead fan. I haven't been excited about this remake since it was first announced, but I'll do my best to enjoy it for what it is.

Interesting. Apparently Bruce Campbell and Sam Raimi are producers on it, with Bruce possibly doing a small cameo. I'm looking forward to it, mostly because horror movies these days have been pretty lackluster with all the "real cam" ones getting more and more cheesy.

I'm not a big fan of possession type stuff though - mostly because most movies make it look completely stupid - but hopefully this one doesn't disappoint.

If Bruce's cameo is an unnamed clerk at an S-Mart they stop by to get some supplies for the cabin, that would be pretty epic.

I've read stuff back and forth for years, but I think the official word from Bruce was that he turned down doing a cameo. He didn't want his face popping up to take away from the film. Though, it could all be BS to make us think he won't appear there somewhere.

From what I've read this Evil Dead wasn't going to be a "remake". At first the plan was to have a group of teenagers find the cabin, find the book and that's where the similarities would stop. It was canned because of the backlash from the fans.

Now it is a remake of the original and intentionally made with over-the-top gore for "an "R" rating or worse". Campbell says "I may probably be the milk man" but not confirmed whether he is actually in the movie or not. At least Raimi and Campbell are producers though.

This trailer seemed a lot better than the earlier one I saw screened. I really wish they would have just done 4 though, so what if Campbell's a little pudgy.

hindsight the smart move would have been to drop the name. do it original and have it be a love letter, like Cabin in the Woods. Although, maybe they couldn't have gotten the funding without the name.

Just think of this though: Young fans today will see this, then when Christmas rolls around and they ask for the DVD, clueless parents will buy them the original ED1 and ED2 by accident!

Who are these young fans who see and then ask as Christmas present an R rated movie?
Heh you'd be surprised. I remember years ago working in retail, people would walk into the store asking if we had the remake version of a movie, because they accidentally bought the (cheaper) original version from the 60s/70s/80s/etc.

Interesting on set report. Of note, Ash's abandoned Oldsmobile is near the cabin, covered in lots of leaves. If you read the interview, he likes to think of the movie is a reboot/sequel of the original ED1, as he correctly points out that ED2+AoD are basically the reboot/remakes of ED1. Which means Ash is dead (original ending of ED1).

They also mention Raimi is pretty key on having mostly practical effects /w minimal CGI, although they express some concerns on how the MPAA will try to tree-rape them.
