western tv and movies are so terrible, i got the wife to watch an anime. I haven't' really payed attention to japanamtion since the early 2000's and prior to that, it was just everyone we knew had like six VHS tapes between us with some very old anime on it. so i'm out of the loop by about a quarter century. My favorate series was olde macross stuff.

anyway the wife liked death note. i think she's receptive to animes where the characters are shaped like normal people and don't spaz out so much. I THINK she wouldn't like wacky anime attacks nearly as much as quasi realistic stuff going on. I thought i may see if she wants to watch full metal alchemist next? i hear folks like that?

Is it better to watch full metal alchemist or FMA brotherhood first? i know the second thing is a remake of the first, but is it of stand-alone quality? i thought about seeing if she would want to watch evangelion.

is there newer stuff she may like? i saw folks say they liked chain saw man?

we don't watch a lot of shows and (the entire west) has been putting out such garbage i figured we could cherry pick some anime she'd like.

I'm not 100% sure. I have every episode downloaded on my computer at home, and I have a "watched" folder, but I'm not at home right now. And won't be back there until the night of the 25th. I flew out here on the 5th, so it's been a long time away from home.

I don’t remember the summer camp arc at all, but when anime’s get into the obvious filler content I just let it play on my side monitor and safely ignore most of it.

You aren't wrong but people mean two different things when they say filler. The traditional meaning of filler which is shit made up entirely for the anime, like 40% of Naruto/Shippuden, and then stuff that's manga canon but still feels like you're watching filler, like Season 2 of Shield Hero.

Shonen enjoyers get flustered if they have to watch something that doesn't raise their hr to 100+

Also Shonens are notoriously bad at doing slice of life and character development. Thus is why Frieren is such a 10/10 anime. It does ALL the genres well without "troping" too hard.

Apparently I watched a lot more than I thought. Crunchyroll shows my next episode as being ep 1 of season 6 so guess I watched all of the first 5.

I saw the series in the CR list. Haven't watched it. What was it that made you turn it off?

i've slowly intro'd anime to my wife and sisters/brothers and they love it, first series for women imo is

Frieren
Apothecary Diaries (basically female sherlock holmes in 1600s China)
Delicious in Dungeon (if they are ok with small amounts of violence, skip if not)
Spy x Family (so kawaii)

Cowboy Bebop might be something they like after that, not really sure its kind of a divider between "classic anime" and new anime? I turned my brothers on to Demon Slayer but that had mixed reactions among the women (too violent for some).

i've heard violet evergarden and A Place Further than the Universe are also favs among women but we haven't watched those yet, we are currently watching Spice and Wolf which she likes but I find super boring. The three above we both really loved.
