Also this is the combat shotgun I've been using. Recoils like a son of a bitch but man does it pump out the damage.

The text in Cap Collector doesn't say anything about that shit. Rank 2 just says shit about making things cheaper and sell prices higher. It actually allows you to build a different level of shop as well?
Cap Collector 2 is required for all rank 3 shops (Weapons/Armor/Trading/Clothing Emporiums and Restaurant) except Surgery Center, which requires Medic 1.

He gets off drugs (I THINK) when you go back and Austing gets sick because he finds his stash is actually connected to another vault that causes some issues you have to deal with. You also tell his sister to keep him off the chems since she is the one that started him on them.
I finished the main 81 quest with the "secret" vault and mole rats. After that and curing the kid, Tina asks me to get her brother off drugs. I go talk to him, every option results in Persuasion failure (6 charisma character); talking to Rachel the doctor has no options but regular "cure me/cure rads" etc options. No idea how to do this quest since every time I talk to Bobby, the drug addict, it gives me persuasion failures. Tried about 20 times now.

Look at all you assholes not even looking for Shawn.....
man, I'm a realist. I was in there for 200 years. I don't even know when he was taken.. could have been 150 years ago. the cryo/lifesupprt failed due to remote override(letting you out). a separate incident of manual override was also logged.(getting shaun)

neighbors
just to confirm, the random named feral ghouls you might find around, ARE the named neighbors that are stuck at the gate in the beginning of the game

There does feel like there is a lot more filler fluff. The stuff off of the main story is complete garbage fed ex. There is very little extra lore in the world, very little stuff outside the main factions. The buildings are there, the mutants and raiders etc but the extra touches you mention are mostly missing in this game.

"we never run out of tech to get"

"we never run out of places to clear"

"we can place these things everywhere!"

If you've gotten there you'll know what I'm talking about. That isn't good fallout content. That is lazy ass quest making.
Yeah that was exactly what i was talking about , i thought they would eventually lead to something awesome. Like the MELAs would actually lead me to some funny outcome cause the character was fantastic, NOPE just generic quest 10 to have you clear X POI and having it marked cleared. Same with P.A.M. , thought i would get something fun from her , nope just another generic quest giver. Same with the Doctor , sigh....and other factions was just the same , with Tuvak asking me to escort kids around. No real payoff just another generic quest giver.

WHen I did it i THINK what happened was I talked to her first. Told me how he was hooked on jet and such and it was her fault etc. I told her to stop doing it. Then I left for a quest, I think to get fertilizer or something for another and returned to find austin was sick. AFter I did mole rat serum I remember him saying "i'm going to stay clean" or something like that. I did that a couple of days ago so my memory was hazy. I'll go back tonight and see if I can talk to them.

I'm on a 1 cha playthrough so I didn't have some massive cha check to finish that.

I could be mistaken but that is what I recall.

Jesus is that what's going on with these 'Cleansing' quests? I thought it was a series.... Ugh I've done like 4 already.

I'm quickly discovering that if I want to have fun/unique experiences in this game I'm gonna have to make them happen myself. The quests/narrative components aren't delivering for me at all. I'm actually quite disappointed so far given what I've heard of other entries in the series. I've heard the ending is pretty powerful though, so we'll see.

Gonna head off in a random path to the South West and see how far I can get before the MOBs are too much for me. I'm level 14 right now. Hopefully I can find some excitement or interesting happenings.

Those quests are there so that you always have something to do, since there is no level cap, and the game allows you to continue indefinitely after you beat the main story line.

I'm having fun and get sucked in easily with hours just disappearing into a vacuum. Given my current pace, this game could last a month or so easily, which is shockingly good for the 1st run of a single player game. Given that I'm about 35 hours in and only level 22 with probably just a scratch done in terms of total content, will be huge amount of hours(easily 100+) in for just $60. Usually only see those kind of numbers in multiplayer games, for myself.

That's what was nice about Skyrim is those task-quests were clearly labeled as tasks and you could ignore them without feeling like you're skipping critical content.

Vorph, re: the merchants, I feel like the whole merchant + charisma + settlement thing would make more sense if there were some expensive awesome gear you could get where if you had high charisma investment you'd get that gear much earlier and would be more powerful because of it. Instead I'm just selling stuff at 1CHA (+gear) and buying whatever items I want. I keep hoping for a new city with vendors that sell amazeballs gear, but the more I explore the less I think it's happening.

Yeah they should probably be filed under miscellaneous or whatever it is quests, instead of appearing to be main quests.

There's only two cities with named vendors and then there's the caravan and faction merchants. We know that their inventories don't cycle uniques only regular stock, right? Anyone test the stocks on recruitable vendors yet?

Aside from purchasing I want it now items, settlements generating resources or caps doesn't do anything special for you. I've had better luck with legendaries dropping items then seeing anything worthwhile on the vendors or stealing mods from regular drops.

I saw some nice stuff on a caravan vendor, but it was expensive as shit(like 18k caps), though this was on a no charisma character(since iirc that has perks for vendor pricing).

And the first legendary melee weapon I got was from a vendor(general chaos sword), lasted a long ass time too, it was like 2k caps or something.

I think part of it is just the size of the game. It's fricken huge. I've been playing almost non-stop since release, I'm at level 21, and I'm just now into Diamond City. I've found 2 bobbleheads so far and maybe 15 magazines. I know there is a shit-ton more to do. So it may seem like there isn't as many "unique" quest lines, but I feel like it's just being diluted by the fact there is a lot more quests in general this time around. Fallout 4 is huge in size and scope compared to Fallout 3, and it scares me to think of how many hours I sunk into Fallout 3....does that mean I'm gonna spend 3x as many hours in Fallout 4 in comparison to 3? Is that even possible?

Again, I haven't gotten that deep into the game yet, my biggest settlement has 8 settlers, I'm having a hard time deciding whether to level up perks or attributes (ended up doing a little of both, which is probably not the best "min/max" way, but I find myself banking a few points for those "oh shit" moments like I need to open a Expert level safe or I need to up the damage on a cool rifle I found, etc. Again, I'm in it for the long haul and probably gonna get everything I need/want eventually). Tonight I'm gonna go help Preston at the Castle thingy for the Minutemen.

That being said, I've already run into a few memorable encounters, not your typical Fed-Ex bullshit, although I agree there is plenty of that in the game (all the BoS stuff currently as far as I can tell).

The most memorable (did it yesterday) involved the Convenant. Going to spoiler it, DO NOT read if you haven't done it already and don't blame me if you do.

I found the whole quest line really interesting. It seemed fairly obvious that the SAFE test was something out of Blade Runner, testing humans vs. synths. What I thought was cool was the choice you had to make at the end, whether or not to free Amelia or let her continue to be captive, both sides made good arguments. I'm sure I'm not the only person to save/load the game and kill Amelia to see if she was really a synth or not

There was another quest where a woman is calling for you to help her family.

and of course it's a trap. But did you guys notice the broken floor section that they were dumping the victim's bodies down into? Nice touch

And then also something like the Boylston Club

where all those rich people got together and drank poisoned wine instead of having to live and suffer in the apocalyptic future

Again, I'm taking my time with this game and enjoying the sights. I think maybe if you are rushing through it or trying to play it "perfectly" you will be missing out on a lot of the side flavor this game has to offer.

Also....I could recommend everyone play this on Survivalist, or at least the next one down (Very Hard?), unless you are just trying to get through the game and see the ending, which I understand. My friend is playing this on Normal, and he doesn't understand how I keep running into so many Legendary creatures. Literally it seems like every building has at least one if not two in them, staring at around level 15 or so. Plenty in the open world as well. I'll ask him how he handled the Legendary Glowing Ghoul from the Med-Tek building....and he has no idea what I'm talking about.

It does make the game a million times more frustrating also. Things can kill you in seconds. I've been cheesing it by clearing trash, then taking pot shots at the Legendary mob, then running away until they reset agro, then quick-saving, then rinse/repeat until they are dead. You don't have to do this on every Legendary or Skull mob or course, but some of them are just crazy tough, and ammo becomes an issue.

Granted probably 90% of the drops are garbage, but hey, at least you are getting drops.

Sounds like I'm just unlucky then. I've seen the same 2 pieces of unique armor on the caravan every time I see her - assumed she didn't reset like the other merchants.
