I always felt that the last one should be a lot less stunt/over the top and more grounded. It would circle back to the premise of the first movie and how Dom had been removed from professional track racing. The end would simply show Dom starting in a big race with a pit crew around his family. How they got there would be what the movie would be about. That is something I would gladly have watched.

Justin Lin had called this out and said he wasn't in shape for X on schedule as part of their argument.
He's still slated to play Riddick, so I figure it'll be taken care of this time.
On bringing O'Conner back-- it's a cheap way to get fans back to the franchise while undoing the best ending they had.
And I guess this officially confirms the Fast X Part 2 plan is gone. No trilogy because Fast X almost flopped. Confirms the rumors the commercial performance damaged Vin's plans for future movies.

We knew the movies wouldn't be the same after Paul Walker passed since it changes the whole dynamic. But then they kept bringing people back from the dead, which meant the villains didn't actually kill them, which meant they kept trying to redemption arc the villains.
The ONLY time that worked was with Michelle Rodriguez because it was explicitly Vin Diesel imagining the scene on the road. Never shown, witnessed, or flashbacked otherwise. The mid boss villain responsible was simply bad and they straight up killed him.
