I don't quite understand why they don't have some mitigating factors for this. Do they really think it is in their financial interest to leave the possibility for terribly long unlucky streaks to exist? I realize that leads to certain players with low self-control and a penchant for addiction to buy gems and keep pulling, but I have to think DeNA would more benefit by retaining and engaging the far larger number of players who have a modicum of self-control and would be willing to spend maybe 10 bucks a month on gems. I'm going to chalk it up to a cultural difference in what they can get away with in JP, and what their global market looks like.

In Japan they have Rolling Gacha. Every time you roll and don't get a 5 star the chances of drawing a 5 star increases. It's banner specific so you can't strike out on a VI banner and take your bonus to a IX banner. Nobody knows the actual rates of increase but it's noticeable. You can go 0 for 11 on a banner but it's almost unheard of to go 0 for 22. It happens but it's extremely rare. I could still have gone 0 for 33 on these Lucky Draws with rolling gacha but it wouldn't have been as likely. While the bonus would have reset between draws it would still be active for the draw. An 11 pull is sequential so that 11th relic will have a higher chance of being a 5 star than the first assuming none were drawn in the middle. We won't be getting this feature. Had we been in sync with Japan it would have landed in October of last year. They've made a conscious decision to not give it to us and I doubt that it will change. But make no mistake it makes a big difference.

My luck runs either really hot or really cold in this game with, almost, no in between. It took me forever to start getting 5 star gear but then I got some great stuff all pretty close to each other. The first two celebrations were fantastic for me with 13 five stars on 250 Mythril. 6 of those were character ones. But Lucky Draws hate me. Of the 8 we've had I've had four go 0 for 11. I pulled 7 relics on the other 4 and I know I shouldn't complain about getting 5 stars some were downright terrible.

Now I've got enough saved up for about 15 pulls on the Celebration and Tactics. I'm planning to brute force banner 1 into getting something worthwhile with the rest going towards a split of banner 4 and Tactics. I'd be happy with 7 of the 9 items on banner 1 and about half of banner 4 and the same for Tactics.

After these past few lucky draws though
my expectations are very low.

When you say 15 pulls are you talking about 165 relics?

Yes. 165 relics. I've been saving since last Celebration which was terrible to me. So this time I'm taking the brute force approach.

Needless to say I don't want to spend it all chasing any one relic (not even platinum sword). I'm hoping to get something decent early on and be able to spread those pulls out a bit. But Banner 1 is strong enough for me to go deep if I have to.

Got Cid Spear #1 and Baltheir Gun #2 when I have Cid Spear #2 and Baltheir Gun #1 already! Can't complain when I got Clouds BSS yesterday which is what I whaled for at Christmas.

What is good about banner 1 btw?

5 SSBs are on the banner (others only have 4) so that puts it a step up already. Excalibur is considered one of the best weapons to use with Shout. Yoshiyuki is also really good with Shout and it's a weapon worth augmenting to max giving Sephiroth a decent weapon regardless of realm to overcome his weapon limitations. The other 3 SSBs are all pretty solid for me. Revolver and Oak Staff are both dated but my VIII synergy is terrible and I need an actual BLM rod.

The only two items I don't want are Sabin's gloves or Sazh's gun.

So of the 5 banners the first is my best. Banner 5 is the most hyped but it's terrible for me since I already have Wall and Group Heals. 4 is my next strongest banner with lots of Mage relics. Locke's SSB is also supposed to be amazing with Shout. I'd like to pull here too but it's going to depend on how deep I go into 1.

Head's up for those who don't pay attention to Reddit and stuff:

Banner 1, which will land tonight, has been changed. They've removed Yuna's Full Metal Rod (her SSB) and replaced it with Lullaby Rod. For a lot of people it makes the banner stronger since Full Metal Rod is a very niche Relic since it appeals to Yuna's Summoner side and not her White Mage side. For me the change is significantly worse since I already have Lullaby Rod. The banner went from being great to merely good for me. I need to rethink my pulling strategy now... I really want Excalibur or Yoshiyuki and I'd be very happy with Zidane's SSB (yes I know it doesn't play well with Shout but Zidane is a favorite character of mine), Red Scorpion Tail for Quistis and even Vivi's Oak Staff (it's dated but still very good). The annoying part is they left Squall's Revolver alone because it's the single worst relic on any of the 5 banners. It's very old and the SB is terrible with the amount of power creep we've had. It's still not a bad pickup for me if I'd get it since my VIII Synergy is awful but it still sucks.

Are they giving us any mythril tonight? Totally out now after the lucky banners.

I realized I didn't do a 100 gem pull on one of the FF2 banners and pulled Minwu's AoE heal staff.

I finally got around to FF II's bonus battles. The 3 Giants were rough and it took me two tries to get it (120 Stamina). I underestimated them on my first try and by the time I had the last Gigas down to half health I was just running out of steam. My ability uses were drying up and I couldn't find enough room to squeeze buffs back in. I fixed my setup and was able to down them with Mastery on my second try.

The Emperor fight was actually the most annoying. I had to S/L once because at the end of the fight he spammed AOE attacks like crazy. The second try he spent the whole fight buffing himself (which I'd then take off with Banishing Strike) and was never in any real danger. But the constant AOE slows got really annoying really fast.

The Soul Break Celebration was much better to me than those fucking Lucky Draws.

I got out without spending too much of my stockpile. 100 gems and three 11x pulls. 100 gems crapped out. First 11x pull I got Red Scorpion Tail for Quistis (my first SSB). Second 11x pull got me Dragon Claws for Sabin. Third pull I hit jackpot: Four 5 stars. A generic light armor for V (Ninja Suit), Deneb Duellers for Sazh, Oak Staff for Vivi and Yoshiyuki for Sephiroth.

The light armor, Dragon Claws, and Deneb Duellers aren't super exciting and not sure how much sue that they'll get. But I'm VERY happy with Yoshiyuki which I promptly Augmented to +20 (took 18 of my 20 Rosetta Stones). I'm also very happy with the Oak Staff. It's dated a bit (only 113 MAG) but it's my first true universal BLM Rod and the Soul Break still holds up. And Vivi rocks. I'm playing through IX again and I forgot how great the little guy is. Red Scorpion Tail is decent. I like Quistis a lot even if she's not the greatest in FFRK. But the Soul Break is really good and, honestly, she's not terrible. She just can't use 5 star Black Magic yet.

So now I'm going to splurge on Banner 2 a bit (no more than two 11x pulls) hoping for Save the Queen and a couple of pulls on Banner 4. After that everything is going into the Tactics banner until I'm tapped out or I get some combination of Platinum Sword or the Shield for Agrias.
