I was gearing up for an intense match with elite Odin since he resists breaks, but used Advance and he went down easy. He doesn't have a lot of HP.

I mastered Tifa's Mage Path Boss Rush. Didn't expect to pull that one off - I prepared hard, went in with a good strategy, and expected to complete (not master) and spend a mythril. Blundered my strat by changing Slowga to Sleep Buster at the last minute, only to quickly realize Yuna wouldn't be very effective with 3 of the bosses being airborne.

Team was lvl 57 Quistis (R4 Thundaga + R2 Power Breakdown), lvl 53 Wakka (R2 Magic Breakdown + R1 Mental Breakdown), lvl 52 Yuna (R4 Curaga + R3 Sleep Buster), lvl 53 Vivi (R4 Thunderga + R4 Thundara), lvl 50 Rydia (R4 Waterga + R4 Firaga). Going again, I'd prefer an R4 Mental break over the R1 Breakdown, and take Slowga instead of Sleep Buster.

Stoked to have scored Shellga.

Proud Clod was easily completed, but mastery ain't gonna happen.

Lightning Boss Rush is pretty reasonable, I didn't do the best job and mastered it anyway. The 3rd boss does a fuckton of damage (I didn't take Sentinel Grimore) so bring everything to take the edge off.

Brynhildr is extremely hard though, I couldn't even kill it. You'll need a healer, you are taking 500 damage AoEs through Sentinel Grimore/Protect/Shell and it resists break. Then Retaliate is doing about 2500 boosted, may have to go Mage Meta for this one. I've seen videos of Tauntaliate working though, could free up Protect/Power Breakdown slots for damage. I have Ice Whip so I'll bring that next time and hope that Rydia can do some damage.

Tauntilate is definitely the way to go. Beat her first attempt with 20 seconds to spare. Brought Shellga just in case, didn't even bother with Protectga, most of the time she's just going to be targeting your Taunted retaliator.

blew all my stamina on the EXP daily yesterday. got my black mage / white mage / summoner to level 46. blew three mithril and a dollar on stamina refills. was going to spend a few more bucks to get to level 50 but decided it could come naturally. i have some things in the regular dungeons to get done still that this crew is capable of. plus i haven't even unlocked the summoner memory crystal yet.

but yeah, my crew is going to be bad ass once i get those RM2s:

Sepiroth w/ One Winged Angel
Cloud w/ Buster Sword
Yuna w/ Magistral Rod will be my summoner
Selphie w/ Morning Star will be my healer
Vivi w/ Hunter's Rod will be my black mage

would of course be even better if i had Vivi's SB weapon, but those are the SB weapons for everyone else in my crew.

its taken a looooooooooong time to get here. there hasn't been a day i haven't logged in since i started playing way back during the last Aerith event. i'm not so hardcore that i worry about spending every last stamina, but dedicated enough...

never used Vit0 and still have never used Retaliate meta.

I've only used Retaliate on a few bosses. I finally took the time to get Josef's double attack RM2 so that may change a bit.

yeah didn't mention him, but Josef was in my fourth slot when was grinding the EXP dungeon yesterday. been funnelling all of my growth eggs to summoner/WM/BM tho so josef is kind of trailing behind. i got the RM2 from Bard first thinking it would be great for clearing trash, but the damage hit per swing when facing bosses hurts at the end of the fight when my melee run out of abilities to use. Josef's RM2 is going to jive way better i think.

the main thing i'm excited for once i get the RM2s from BM/WM/SUM is that i won't just be auto-attacking through trash anymore. maybe some people like being able to just auto-attack, but i'm going to enjoy myself a lot more dropping Quakes and summons to clear that trash.

Found the way to an easy Brynhildr kill. 3 man party. Use a retaliator that can use drain strike (only Cloud or Tyro), any other 4* spellblader, and Sazh (mastery condition). Take drain strike, retaliate, and Loner RM on the retaliator, break strike (awarded from the event) and auto-haste RM on spellblader, any kind of ice damage on Sazh and maybe some defensive RM like auto-regen or auto-protect. Then make sure to take Luneth Advance RW. Spellblader should have a high accuracy low damage weapon equipped. With your own party petrified all attacks will go to your retaliator. Brynhildr has huge multi-attacks, up to 6 swings per turn. It's all the benefit of Advance and Taunt in one. Even with a lowish damage retaliator the fight can be beaten with a few S/L. Just hope your breaks land and the mob doesn't double pyroshot which doesn't get countered. Party setup should look something like:

Cloud (retaliator): Drain Strike, Retaliate, Loner RM
Tyro (spellblader): Break Strike, Sky Pirate's Pride RM
Sazh: Blizzaga, Defensive RM

Turn 1: Sazh nukes with ice to fulfill mastery condition. Spellblader petrifies Sazh. Retaliator retaliates.
Turn 2: Spellblader petrifies himself. Retaliator uses RW Advance.
Turn 3+: Retaliator retaliates then alternates drain strike and retaliate until the beast is slain.

Took about 20 minutes of S/L. Easily worth it considering how much of a pain in the ass this boss can be.

Thanks for the tip! Gave it a go but didn't have the patience to save/reload for no double/triple magic attacks.

Used a more conventional party and just scraped the mastery.
Retaliator (Retaliate/Blizzaga Strike)
White Mage (Shellga/Protectaga)
White Mage (Curaja/Boost)
Szah (Power Breakdown/Magic Breakdown)
Black Mage (Blizzaga/Kirin)
Tyro RW

The key was having ice spells to DPS rather than relying on the weak retaliate physical attacks (I tried straight retaliate and no luck). I had some synergy bracelets, nothing special on gear.

Chris based on the fact that you've been using retaliate meta, I find it hard to believe you don't have the gear to just Tauntilate the fight.

I tried that to no luck either, I needed to stack ALL the mitigation. I was pretty surprised, first fight I've actually LOST and wasted stamina on several times. The problem was no FF13 swords AT ALL.

I used Enob's strat. He got very lucky in getting it down in 20 minutes. It took me over an hour. I also had a bad run where I actually died so I had to wait on Stamina (which was in addition to the over an hour spent on getting the fight down). On that run I had him down to about 15% when I took 3 Pyros in a row. That's actually not what killed me. At least not directly. I had to hit him with a Drain Strike and that got me out of rhythm so Retaliate fell off and a triple hit killed me. I couldn't close out fast enough because I thought Retaliate would still be up. Like I said earlier I use Retaliate when needed but I don't rely on the strat unless the fight demands it (like this one). So I don't have the timing down on Retaliate perfectly yet.

It just takes a LONG time to get everything to line up. First you need to get Break to land on both Sazh and the Break user. Then you need to actually survive long enough to go Retaliate, Advance, Retaliate, Drain Strike. Finally you have to hope he doesn't go Pyro crazy so you can keep your rotation up.

Thanks for the strat though. It took forever but it did work for me and I got a Mastery on it (2 stars lost on damage).

I jumped ahead on Lightning's event, made a lot of progress early on, only to find myself to have procrastinated until the end again. Wasted a bunch of stamina today that I'd rather have spent on farming orbs - creating abilities for last week's Tifa event wipe me out of Black Orbs completely.

Spent the EXP dungeon getting some of my most-used characters up near max, breaking Lightning's cap, and Sazh to 40. I've a lot of characters right around 50, and the stat increase to 65 is a big deal.

I want to like Aerith, but she's just-another-White-Mage and I still haven't made the use for two at any given time. I haven't looked at the harder fights yet - I'm guessing I'll need to dump a fair amount of eggs on her for mastery conditions.

Level everything to 50, there are usually enough eggs and exp per event to do this. I have every event character at least to 50 and some of the dungeon characters too.

Realm Synergy will take care of some of the missing stats to 65, so you'll have more "high level" characters for each realm and you'll be able to hit mastery conditions. You'll have a few like Cloud hit 65 anyway because you use them all the time.

I'm currently using two White Mages in Retaliate Meta for Shellaga/Protectaga/Boost/Curaja.

Well there aren't really any 13 swords because there isn't much 13 content. I did it with a butterfly edge. I guess I was fortunate that Brunhyldr didn't cast her AoE magic a single time. She was missing Cloud 6 or 4 times for most of her attacks.

If I needed Shellaga and Protectaga, I'd level up P. Cecil because stats. So far, I've gotten away with one or the other; judicious use of Breakdowns and SG RW have provided me enough mitigation. If you're going all-in reta meta, the marginal loss in stats (DEF, RES, HP) I can see the preference, but I've stayed away from that.

It's the characters I use all the time that have been neglected in levels, ironically. Quistis, my main support/secondary BLM, was just barely into the 50's whereas now she's 62 - huuuge stat increase to my team 95% of the time; Vivi, my only BLM, was just 51.

I want to level Irvine and Balthier because they have good RM's but will sit on the bench 99% of the time (c'moooon thief abilities!) unless I'm lucky enough to land a good gun during SB celebration. But even with RS, Snow, Kimahri, Steiner, Tifa, Kain, Cyan, Edgar, Sabin, Refia, Luneth, Josef, Ricard, Gordon, and Maria aren't worth it over strong characters like Cloud, Squall, Lightning, or Sephiroth. We have too many characters that are absolute shit - they have no redeeming qualities. Once we get thief and knight abilities, we'll have some more options and strats to explore but in the meantime fuckem. Worthless string of characters.

I'm all caught up with the latest batch of dungeons and elites. 123 Stamina now. It's really nice to be able to blow my stamina on daily dungeons or events and then walk away for 6 hours and not waste stamina.

The last batch of dungeons were really easy compared to the ones that came before. There were a number of gimmick fights that are really easy if you play by the rules. Zorn and Thorn, literally, do zero damage if you bring Zealot to knock off their power up buffs. There's also two worms that don't do much damage. The first is from V where it hides in a hole. So you wait for it to pop out, get off a couple water blasts and then go back to waiting. The other worm goes defensive after taking a melee hit so you hit him with Blizzaga then Blizzara Strike. By the time Blizzaga is active he's out of defensive.

Diaga from the Aerith reissue event is amazing. It turns your white mage into a viable damage dealer without having to rely on Summons and in this game offense is king. And since it's an actual White Mage spell it benefits from the Mana Spring Record Materia (return 1 charge of White Mage spells after each battle). I honed that thing right up to Rank 4 (10 casts) and I love it.

Tonight we're getting Eiko. I read that Steiner is required for Mastery conditions so I'm spending Sunday experience on him to get him to a decent level. Irvine is required for the next set in about a week so I'm working on him as well.
