I got stuck on some basement fight, it was one that flowed directly after another... that is where I got stuck in my orig playthough way back in the ps1 days. I got the PSP version, dunno how far I got in it.

I'd like to play an FFT PS1 that simply lets you back out of multi-fight locations.
Seems like they dumped most of the game's worst fights right behind save-walls / multi-part locations just to ensure the player gets trapped.
"Just make backup saves, who doesn't make backup saves" is easy for people to say now, but as a kid in 1998, I never had to worry about backing up saves until FFT came along and screwed me over repeatedly. Lesson was learned.
Grinding Brave stat up, lowering Faith stat, and learning Hamedo = laughably invincible characters. Makes the game super boring though.
I'd like if they closed the gap between Orlandu and everyone else in the lategame. Sounds like Meliadoul isn't far off from him in the remake at least. Agrias could really use a buff. Orlando being perma-hasted on top of everything else is so over the top that I usually give his auto-haste sword to Ramza (if class permits) and that brings them fairly close together in power. Giving that to Agrias might bring her in line with Meliadoul (and now Orlandu since he's taking a hit). Not sure. Last few times I played, Agrias fell off really hard after a while.
In the OG those four were my main endgame team (plus Cloud/Balthier/Luso depending on version). Luso is super solid, but also only in one of rhe versions. I think in my first couple runs I dropped Agrias lategame for Worker 9. Those were dire times.
He's reported as dead during the storyline before you get him as a party member. Then he just wrecks shit unless you have been powerleveling your team when you get him. He remains powerful throughout the game simply due to his skillset and scaling. I think you can make more powerful rando chars but he comes out the gate incredibly strong
It's been decades but I seem to remember Mustadio basically being brokespec forever, even into the final battles. Give him break abilities and concentration, and you can kind of just shoot everyone's weapons out of their hands while also using don't act/don't move at will. If you aren't trying to steal? Break weapon. If you are? Don't act. Repeat!
My final party was never really that important when it came to endgame story battles/etc. Ramza spent a good portion of the game yelling/shouting and so by the time you get past the first few battles if you put him as a monk, he basically runs around dim mak'ing people. Cid, Meliadoul, Agrias... great and powerful, but never really needed. Cid was absolutely broken though if you played normally and just got to recruiting him via the story. Agrias and Meliadoul scaling was a lot more reasonable for when you get them, but Cid was at least a full tier above when he's acquirable.
Never played WOTL; I wonder how hard it is to emulate PSP games these days...
The game busts your balls hour after hour and then drops Cid in your lap at the halfway point. Uh, thanks? I'm supposed to use him to one-shot everything right?

Yeah, for me usually Monk Ramza and Orlandu ended up doing 90% (at least) of the murdering by endgame while everyone else followed them around buffing.
How many versions of this are there? Just PS1 and PSP? I could have sworn there was a newer version already. Might be thinking of TO, which has four (!!) versions between SNES, PS1, PSP, and Switch.
PSP is super easy to emulate. Probably the easiest post-2000 system to emulate.
Mustadio (again, i'm going off a memory from probably 20+ years ago) had some fairly low hit rate cool abilities but nothing special. Most people went with Chemist for him because they could use Guns and they had all the item effects so you could just run around phoenix downing people vs. trying to wait for Revive casts from whms.
You pick up concentration from Archer which changes the hitrate dramatically (been awhile, I think it doubled? For abilities? Or something, and changed regular attack hitrate to 100%) and then you pick up the weapon break skills from Knight (use that as his sub from Engineer) and it changed the success rate of the breaks to fairly high levels if not outright 100% depending on level.
Will have to look at the WOTL stuff for PSP; I'm pretty sure I don't want to give SE 60+ for a barely graphical update.
Hey don't count them out yet, maybe they'll give us Chrono Trigger and FF9 ports and win over all the fanboys again. Then Final Fantasy 17 might end up being one of the best fighting games of all time. Square Enix bay-bee
