I’m a few hours in and I’d been scoffing at Utnayans rants about textures until I saw this door. This is my apartment, it’s a door I can interact with, and even after ten minutes the appropriate texture doesn’t “pop” in.



Also, seems like they’re really weebing it up with the invisible monsters thing.

They didn't really rip the shit out of it though, just complaints about textures and redraw rate.

Yeah, my impression of the review was more praise than not. They did mention that door though so guess that's a no on the day 1 miracle patch. Bummer. They even point out how every other door in the area renders fine, makes no sense.

I thought the patch was tomorrow?

If other doors are fine then it stands to reason that it's just a bug. Obviously it's totally ruined the game though, totally unplayable.

If square releases a final fantasy game and the major point of contention is background textures then it’s probably the best game they’ve produced since ffx

I didn't even know there was a confirmed patch, just saw it suggested a few times so I dared to hope. I agree it won't ruin my enjoyment of the game, but its a pretty legit criticism. Let's not provoke Utnayan anymore than necessary, the weekend is upon us and the drunken flood of rants are already imminent.

I think that's about right. I just need to check out the endgame content to confirm it, Hard Mode is a good start.

The battle system is the best since FFX, I just can't put it above FFX since it's the best traditional battle system and has a number of excellent features that haven't been outdone since - like making all characters relevant and swappable in combat, or letting you see when the enemy is going to move which was very strategic.

I'll just say that I've run into a door or two at this point, but it's such a small thing compared to how 99% of the game looks and feels.

As far as actual game goes...so much materia. So many choices.

I feel like Ut talking about random doors and boilers in the background when I hear about people actually picking Easy mode to play on "pathetic".

You're probably even further than I am, but I've definitely noticed there is an efficiency to combat knowing which stuff you can just power move quick to kill versus stuff you need to get Pressured/Staggered in order to take down quickly. Often it's using an element spell or different ATB ability that builds stagger gauge faster.

I'm loving the combat. Especially when I compare it to how bland XV's was. But I understand the want for the tried and true turn based.

Good to hear. I have this game preloaded and I've avoided potential story change spoilers and haven't watched any recent trailers/reviews or played the demo. Other than buying a case of beer or two after work I am 100% going to consume this fucking game this weekend. I've already told my wife she is getting nothing out of me this weekend unless it is life or death lol. FF7 is probably my favorite game of all time, or at least very close to it.
