I just went through the process from my GMG email - and everything worked first go on the na preorder side of things. And I just DL'd the whole client in 50 minutes. Worked simply, just followed the directions.

Do you guys not read the instructions from the emails you are getting? It says exactly what websites to go to enter the first code and then you get a page with a link to login and enter your second code.

Yes yes I am. Getting an ERROR 3: Try again later fromhttp://preorder.eu.finalfantasyxiv.com/. Which scares me on 2 fronts 1) Server might just be down, but 2) how the hell did I end up EU despite picking 'Murica when I made the account o_O

Or you don't see the link on very bottom of the email on your phone and then log on here to see pages of people getting a bad region code and other problems and assume that its normal.

Does anyone know if Fishing mats are used in other tradeskills besides the occasional Culinary recipe? I tried it out in P4 and found it surprisingly relaxing but I had an inventory full of random fish that I didn't really know what to do with.

Change the eu to a NA on your website link when you redeem your pre order code code if you have a us square enix account and you want to register it for early access

Almost positive they are used in some Alchemy stuff, but others with more knowledge will have to confirm.

I think goldsmithing uses some fished up mats. For example this red coral necklace -http://xivdb.com/?recipe/863/Red-Coral-Necklace

I assume you have to fish up that coral. Could be wrong.

That last one is kind of interesting. Looks like a fishing lure that requires an oyster to craft.

To quantify: if you got in beta, there's a good chance you did so through one of the German / French website promo's (since they had thousands of keys for some reason). However, this is kind of an unknown since you have no insight into this until you buy the game from GMG or Amazon and realize that an NA key won't be able to be applied to your account. Your account is technically in the EU (even if you live in LA), and the email links you'd mentioned will in fact direct you to the NA list of sites for registering.

There are too many confusing variables in play for this to be anything less than "a complete Japsterfuck". IE > beta registration seats you in the EU; key emails direct you to NA sites (presumably since you purchased in the US?); and a number of different regional websites all lead to confusion.

Pro-tip: if you preordered from Amazon and have the EU / NA thing going on, just cancel your preorder. Create a new (non-beta) account in NA and then preorder again. Sadly, you lose all of your characters from beta (I had a few), but the amount of time you spend with customer support (if they even resolve a motherfucking thing - good luck with that!) will more than overshadow your creating a new character and leveling them a few. Plus it's not as fun.

Way less fun.
