Keep in mind that you also needed a Linux system to use SEQ. And if I remember, it wasn't the same computer you played EQ on. It just acted as a packet sniffer.
Most high end guilds didn't cheat (outside of seeing boss stats with SEQ) because GM's would absolutely watch and make sure you didn't cheat. In Enlightened Dark (My guild from Tarew Marr), one of our officers was a programmer for the SEQ team. Well, he never confirmed that, but it was definitely an inner-guild rumor, and we know that he ran SEQ on raids because he would tell us how many HP bosses had or what not. I know that Ashran, the SEQ creator, was a Necro on Tarew Marr, but he was never in guild.

Anyway, aside from having SEQ to know various info about a boss, there was no "cheating" per say. I do remember when Lost Dungeons fist came out, there was a cheat that allowed the in-game map to work similar to SEQ in that it would display the location of every mob currently spawned in the various dungeons, and would show them move and stuff. It was really neat. I don't remember if SOE fixed that, or if someone (not in our guild) got banned for doing it, so I think that I got scared and removed that ability from my client.

EDIT: Scratch that, I do remember that EQ had a few dupe bugs in the day. Somehow there was an invisible banker in Befallen that would dupe shit for people. Someone in my guild found out about that one. Then in Luclin, there was another dupe bug using stackable items. If an item was stackable, selling a single item to a vendor would allow you to purchase a full stack back from them. Yes, it cost a lot (vendor prices were always high), but using that method helped me go from like 50 tailoring all the way up to 225ish. Then I got the remaining 25 points making those robes for people to use on the earring quest.
Yeah man, being able to know if a mob is up from the zone in were the competition is in relation to them is not cheating at all.

Sure it was cheating. However, when all the competition has it, it's just a matter of keeping up with the competition. Big P, you sound like you're harboring butthurt from a decade ago. Let it go.

Why wouldn't they? I mean if they could hack it in a tier 1 guild why leave FoH?
I'm pretty sure most uber guilds in eq had a lot of drama. FoH had it's own. Some people just get tired of a toxic environment and just move on. Some people left when Furor quit during tov and kurk was leader. Some left when Furor came back. Shit happens, and if people aren't happy they will move on. It's a simple concept.

My point was, if your in an FOH, AL, Triton, etc....you don't normally change servers, then drop down 5 levels in guild.......status, for lack of a better word. If your moving to Bertox, and you play at the level of an FOH, your going to contact Prophecy or Phantom Raiders. I am not disrespecting OSW, but there was Prophecy, Phantom Raiders, then everyone else about an expansion behind. Its like taking a demotion from VP to office manager. Doesn't make sense. Then again its been 12 years since I retired, my memory may not be what it once was. I just don't recall OSW being a top end guild.

In the category of outting manginas, I was responsible for what I hear turned out to be a bit of an uncomfortable night for a few people. I used to run a LAN gaming store (back before our area got cable internet) and had a solid fast connection with 8 computers in the store for hourly renting. Just about everyone in the store played EQ, many of them from the store. My wife and I played some but had not done any raiding of any sort.

One night one of our semi regular customers comes in and says he has a good friend who is supposed to be co-leading a hate raid that night but lost power at his house. Customer wants to know if he can pay for the guy to play from my store for a few hours. He then intends to go back home and raid from home. I tell him its fine, in fact, if there is room and he lets my wife and I come along, he can play for free. All agree, dude shows up, half bearded, unshowered scruffy looking guy, logs in gets things going. Turns out there's more room for my wife and I and a few others from the store on the raid, so off we go, weee our first raid!

This was the first time I had used ventrilo, so we are all sitting around listening to people joke etc, waiting on the monk to pull. Now things are a little fuzzy about how exactly it came up, but i THINK the bard died, someone said "someone buff her" on vent to which I replied " dont worry, I got him" since I was sitting right beside the guy I knew he was alive and looted and safe to buff. At that time someone corrected me and said "insertbardnamehere is a girl" to which I replied, "no, im sitting right beside him and he is most definitely NOT a girl." Vent got really quiet, pulling came to a stop, and several people left the raid. We are all sitting around wondering what the fuck is going on so I ask. At which time I am informed we are looking for a new puller (and a new couple of other things) because the other one who had been cybering this bard thinking it was a chick for several years bailed on us after my announcement. Come to find out I accidentally ruined several online "affairs" (and slightly tarnished the bards reputation) that night. Aforementioned bard never came back to the store.

It was kind of a rhetorical question, I'm not saying tier 1 raiders didn't move on to other tier 1 guilds but the whole point of lower tiered guilds being cautious of recruiting ex-FoH (or insert other uber guild) was that if they were trying to join said lower tier guild it was because they had issues other than just wanting a change of scenery.

On my server, there was a mid level guild that had around 50-60 members. Most were friends. Anyway, the guild leader played from a cyber shop, similar to the one karma mentioned above.

One day at the cyber shop, while the guild leader stopped to use the restroom, the person that was sitting next to him invited a level 1 alt into that guild, then made the alt the new guild leader.
Another thing that happened was we had a server message board that someone got permission to host using excess space on their companies server. At some point, someone posted kiddy porn using the "insert image" part of the board (so that the board ended up hosting it). A few weeks later, the FBI came knocking.

The future tag lines for our "new" server website were "Tarew Marr, we'll ninja your guild." and "Tarew Marr, Where Internet drama will cost you your job."

Minor inconvenience for sure, but GMs always would revert the actual guild tag to the person who created it at any point requested. It would take some petitions and time, but I know a couple guilds that had drama over years and guild leadership / control of the guild tag was always reverted to the original creator.

Not to be a dick but, Prophecy and Phantom Raiders were leading the server since they turned the servers on. Below them was that Asian guild, cannot for the life of me remember the name. (Edit: I wanna say Red Sky? Someone from Bertox correct me). This isn't being rude but, why would anyone from FOH join OSW?
Yes it was Red Sky.

I still chuckle when I remember that others in the guild actually got upset, thinking we were bragging since no one else was getting blue items at that point yet, but it was totally tongue in cheek.
Haha I don't remember it but it sounds about right. Good times though. Remember the first time I ran with you guys was a 15man Strath and Deadhornn guilded me before we finished. Chain casting R1 L Bolt in between heals for free max rank L Bolt procs to help speed up 5-10min Molten Giant kills at zone in. Arguing with another Shaman in MC about how I thought Chain Heal was dogshit and never used it(to be fair I was right while in blues. It was sooo god awful inefficient v downranking single targets without decent +heal). Talking shit to I think a druid app during Geddon after he bombed us for the 5th or 6th time one night and doing the same as I typed since I still looked at my keyboard haha. Making the decision to self ress and cast frawst shawk on Rag one night with like two people left and getting the kill. Passing out drunk dead in the lava on Rag one night. I honestly didn't know fuck all about raiding until I joined you guys and wouldn't have made it anywhere close to where I did without you. Probably never would have left and still salty about how things ended but c'est la vie.

Sounds about right. We, Prophecy, replenished a lot of our ranks with DC and OSW players from time to time.

haha

Reminds me, one time the administrator for Fennin Ro's Mystical Order (TMO) was MIA for like months (he didn't play anymore) and the owner of the box were it was running asked me if I could revive the site somehow. I ended up having to hack the server, make a dump of the vbulletin database and then have the owner reinstall the machine. Going through the process of reinstalling vbulletin I realized that all the PMs are stored pretty much in clear text... SO MUCH CYBERING OVER PMs!!!!! There was a couple that played with us and the guy was having some cyber affair with an enchantress we had that I guess nobody knew.

Oh, and btw, this forum is also vbulletin...

Man, the drama of EQ was EPIC.

Wait.. you didn't get guilded till strath? I know I have screenshots of leveling up with you in dungeon crawl guild groups.. maybe you just weren't in the guild, or it was some other troll shaman with a similar name.

There was about 6-7 of us that were higher level then the rest of the guild, during the lvl 20-35 range, that were actually doing 5man dungeons. No one had hit lvl cap yet, so we were semi 'leet' by even being that high of level. Deadhornn tanked for us till the mid/late 20s and then he fell behind in lvls due to RL stuff and grayson had caught up. Quzip! Was the cleric, finally remembered. But, sometimes he wasn't on and/or needed a 2nd healer. It was then generally Awata, but a few times it was you, I thought.

Anyway, we were showing off our awesome 'blue loot' after boss kills and then that dumb nickname came up as a joke for a couple days, till some officer (or maybe deadhornn) told me a few people got salty about it and thought we were rubbing their faces in it, lol. So, we stopped linking loot or using the nickname. Honestly, this whole thing was probably over the span of a week, but it felt longer since it was in the first days of the server and those memories stick with you the most.
