In the category of outting manginas, I was responsible for what I hear turned out to be a bit of an uncomfortable night for a few people. I used to run a LAN gaming store (back before our area got cable internet) and had a solid fast connection with 8 computers in the store for hourly renting. Just about everyone in the store played EQ, many of them from the store. My wife and I played some but had not done any raiding of any sort.
One night one of our semi regular customers comes in and says he has a good friend who is supposed to be co-leading a hate raid that night but lost power at his house. Customer wants to know if he can pay for the guy to play from my store for a few hours. He then intends to go back home and raid from home. I tell him its fine, in fact, if there is room and he lets my wife and I come along, he can play for free. All agree, dude shows up, half bearded, unshowered scruffy looking guy, logs in gets things going. Turns out there's more room for my wife and I and a few others from the store on the raid, so off we go, weee our first raid!
This was the first time I had used ventrilo, so we are all sitting around listening to people joke etc, waiting on the monk to pull. Now things are a little fuzzy about how exactly it came up, but i THINK the bard died, someone said "someone buff her" on vent to which I replied " dont worry, I got him" since I was sitting right beside the guy I knew he was alive and looted and safe to buff. At that time someone corrected me and said "insertbardnamehere is a girl" to which I replied, "no, im sitting right beside him and he is most definitely NOT a girl." Vent got really quiet, pulling came to a stop, and several people left the raid. We are all sitting around wondering what the fuck is going on so I ask. At which time I am informed we are looking for a new puller (and a new couple of other things) because the other one who had been cybering this bard thinking it was a chick for several years bailed on us after my announcement. Come to find out I accidentally ruined several online "affairs" (and slightly tarnished the bards reputation) that night. Aforementioned bard never came back to the store.
