The big deal was never that they made Dire wolves although the Rogan episode made it seem that way. Right, the criticisms I saw said they had breakthroughs in their research and advanced the field, but they misrepresented the work in the media so they could get a bunch of publicity on it. There was some speculation on if it was done to appease venture capital investors that may have been breathing down their necks.
