I got somewhere the complete lifetime Office suite like a year ago for like 45 bucks.

That's awesome, but I'm not paying for it for work, lol. Those fucks can pay for it if they need me to use it.

It's kind of hilarious. Cable/satellite companies were raping the consumer so everyone started "cutting the plug" which for many meant pirating (see also the music industry).

Then they got smart and started streaming platforms for super cheap (see also things like iTunes that I think made music cheaper, although I don't know about that one 100% since I've always pirates music). So people started coming back. But they got greedy again and started raping the consumer with higher prices, and more services branching off so in the end we're back to the era of cable/satellite just in a new package.

So now people will start pirating again.

It's like time is a flat circle.
And it isn’t just cost, it is ease of access. Pirating music and movies was like 2,000% faster to get it on my computer or iPod or whatever than trying to rip a friend’s CD or navigate the 1st digital stores where it was clunky and agreements weren’t in place for full artist catalogue, maybe you only wanted to hear that one banger and not 10 other shit tracks, etc.

Then Netflix and iTunes caught up and suddenly it was faster to just use their service and I had on demand digital media that I was willing to pay for the convenience.

Now I’m back to having to sift through 48 different streaming services to find a movie / tv show, so it is easier again to just go d/l the damn thing. I’m willing to pay a lot for convenience.

*edit: add steam to that argument so that it covers games in the same way.

*edit #2: Roku search has actually really helped address this bc it searches all h tbh e platforms for whatever I want to watch. So it takes some of the annoyance out of the process. It is really nice and works very well, but it doesn’t eliminate the need for 10 different subscriptions to access said content.
