Fighting games usually suck anyway. I never loved the genre.
The only one I ever enjoyed was Marvel v Capcom 2 that I played with my friends in high school. And that was only because it was local multiplayer with friends. I have zero interest in playing a fighting game alone or online.

I also liked Double Dragon III and the ninja turtles arcade game when I was a kid, but those may not be considered "fighting" games.

Double Dragon and the like are Beat’em Ups. My fave of that genre was final fight and the two TMNT games. But those were all tuned for longevity via quarter munching. I was never skilled enough or persistent enough to finish them without cheating some. I played the recent TMNT homage game and I’m pretty sure the ability to save progress is only why I finished it.

I came really close to buying a copy of chrono trigger and arcana. But paying 240+ for a couple of snes RPGs is a bit much to me. Arcana is one I never played but it seems possibly thoroughly mediocre.

I liked Arcana at the time, was an obscure game no one else had. It hasn’t aged well though. I’d just try it on an emulator.

Good game but not a $35 game...

I'd pay that much for Front Mission 2 (out later this month) but only because it never got an American release before and the fan translation is spotty from what little I heard. Hopefully it's less than that. Square-Enix has definitely caught on to how much money they can make by remastering all their SNES and PS1 classics on Switch.

Yeahhhhh, about that...

IMO it's good news though. FM1 was a lazy half-assed port that got poor reviews and probably sold like shit too since it never got more than a 10% discount on Switch, so hopefully the delay means they're actually putting some effort into FM2.

That’s where I ended up. Did manage to find a dog bone nes controller for my toploader. I’m tempted to flip it. I’m actually not a huge fan of the nes and I don’t have a great collection. We have a surprisingly nice retro shop in my tiny hometown. I was kind of shocked to see so many copies of Chrono Trigger, but they were priced at eBay prices.

I have also been tempted to get a ps1 but I think I’ll emulate them too. I had one and the laser died. But I think I left it at my ex’s house. My ps2 ended up there too.

I had no idea that the GC MGS: twin snakes mgs1 remake went for so high a dollar. I I’ve a mint copy of that. Overall, I lament that nobody is making CRTs anymore. I feel up through gc/ps2 era looks better that way.

Frankly I am very tempted to liquidate a lot of my GBA games and other system collections I probably won’t play.

Damn, this and System Shock delayed. Damn, they're delaying everything I want. I think that just leaves Baldur 3 and Armored Core for me this Summer. ...I probably shouldn't be saying that, sorry everyone

imgur is deleting content that is not associated with an account, and most old memes and shit were uploaded "anonymously" so its all going poof

google is gonna start doing the same thing soon with youtube and stuff too, deleting content that is hosted by an account that hasn't logged in 2+ years will be deleted

And then eventually that will transition into needing a digital I.D. to access website, then eventually the internet itself. All because unfettered access to information is dangerous.

"Oh, sorry sir, your meat purchasing application has been denied because it looks like you said problematic things on Xbox live. A government rehabilitation specialist will be at your house this week to discuss matters, but don't worry if all goes well your universal basic income won't get turned off.

"But I just wanted to play video games."

"Oh, dear, that's banned speech, we'll need to call in the harm reduction officer to search for other signs of meme terrorism."

Bought that game knowing nothing about it right before I headed off to boot camp. Brings back a ton of memories every time I hear the intro music.

3p co-op with the multi tap was so fun back then.

Yeah I get deeply nostalgic at Secret of Mana music. The happy music that plays at the very start when they're standing on the log by the waterfall is the one that gives me the rush of memories. Last time I played the game was in 2019 and I got to play it while hanging out with my mom which was pretty cool (we did the same thing in 1996 when I first played it).

Also the standard field theme in SoM might be the best standard field theme of any video game I've ever played.

SD3 (fan-subbed rom, not the janky remaster) was such a vast improvement in gameplay and story flow but Secret of Mana was pretty great. Outside of that portion in the mid to late game where they do that stupid 'Sage isnt here go visit this mana temple' 'sorry sage still isn't here go visit this other mana temple' like 4 times.

Right in the childhood. "The Dark Star" and "Prophesy" are a few of those rare pieces that instantly transport me, every time. I will die on the hill that 90's game music has some legitimately all-time great compositions in miniature and is the peak of the form.
