You can play in third person.
I know, but that doesn't change the point I was making. There's only one set of armor meshes for both genders. There's also only one set of animations, which are universally terrible, so that makes third person view even more of an abomination. What I was getting at is that the 'body type' selector is a retarded change for mentally ill degenerates, but it has no lasting effect since you can't even see that choice on the character sheet. The real problems are the meshes and animations, plus the bug/oversight that left the revamped "origin" choice still tied to the character's gender.

If modding counts then Skyrim probably at least belongs in the vicinity of the top 10. Without mods NWN definitely does not.

In no particular order my personal top 9 would be

Wrath of the Righteous
Cyberpunk 2077
Witcher 3
Bloodlines
New Vegas
Deus Ex
Mass Effect
Torment
Kotor

For me Mass Effect and DAO would be more or less at the same spot but I wanted to just pick 1 and even without the remaster Mass Effect's gameplay aged much better.
Not to nitpick but actual question, would Russia be considered ”Western” for this topic? Owlcat started in Russia and while currently headquartered in Cyprus still has pretty deep Eastern Bloc roots.

yes. East/west in this regard is not post ww2 east/western blocs. Its a European, versus East Asia one. base cultures. Russia's cultural roots are European. not Chinese/mongolian, Korean/Japanese, etc.

PS had the best review of Starfield I found. Everyone criticized it, but few really correctly understood what went wrong. His review was the most accurate that I heard.

Imagine watching a six hour analysis of a video game.

It's also not some complex mystery to understand why people didn't like certain aspects of Starfield.

Late to the party, but NWN2 MotB goes on my RPG list near the top. (loved the original as well)
Even ME1 probably, for the story, and DAO.

Disco elysium at #2 is no way, could easily be replaced by games like pillars of eternity or vampire bloodlines etc. it really shouldn't be on the list at all. Baldurs Gate 3 should be lumped together with the other baldurs gate games, which have had far more influence in general on western RPGs. Same thing with Elder Scrolls and Fallout, they should be lumped together with the others in the series.

Planescape: Torment

I go back and forth on this one all the time but even without the 90s edgelord concept of killing your own mortality to make you immortal this one still holds up as greatest story ever told. The setting is incredible, the best D&D has ever offered, and while the plot has been rehashed in other media it's still compelling, in films such as Shutter island, but the best was of course Memento. If you replaced the antagonist (your own mortality) with any whisker twirling BBEG you chase throughout the adventure across literal hell, losing your memory every time you "die", doomed to repeat the same events over and over again, the story still holds. It's sort of like a reverse groundhog's day. The day keeps resetting, but only for you. Everyone else remembers you, has went down this path with you a thousand times before, has fought and bled and suffered with you, all resigned to their fate, stuck in, from their perspective, a never ending time loop with you none the wiser.

Honorable mentions
Vampire TM: bloodlines
Morrowind.
Witcher 3
Dragon Age: Origins

previously comments I concur on, if any Mass effect belongs on the list its Mass Effect 2. And KOTOR2? jfc. If any KOTOR game belongs on the list at all it's actually The Old Republic (the MMO). Think of it as 100 hour single player RPG with 8 unique new game + modes, it delivered a better story than either KOTOR. KOTOR suffers from the same 90s edgelord problems that Torment suffers from, ohh look the bad guy has amnesia, btw you play as the bad guy, how clever.

So yeah that's not quite 10 but close enough.

I was never a huge fan of Starcraft, despite liking the lore, and didn't even play SC2.
But the right of Starcraft just got bought by a South korean company (Nexon)
Nexon is known for its agressive monetisation of everything they touch, not really sure what they will do with it.

Last chance to get Abiotic Factor for 20 bucks.

After that, the price goes up to 35 bucks before the v1.0 release.

Really good survival-craft type game with a Half-Life type of feel to it. I was pleasantly surprised by it and put over a 100 hours in.

Eh, I'd rather somebody do something with the IP. Be it P2W MMOs, FPS, whatever. It's a great IP that is just languishing because Blizzard is full of DEI now.

There aren't many things I can imagine being worse for Starcraft than Blizzard making another game.

A Starcraft game being made by Nexon while Blizzard still owns the IP is one of those things.
