I can't help but think this is some sort of leverage play between Larian and Wizards of the Coast, but maybe not. Sven does sound like a pretty principled guy. Principled not only from a financial standpoint, but more so it seems with his creative vision.
While I wish they would continue in the D&D universe, they don't need to. I'm sure I will be playing whatever they make in the future.

I feel like WotC greed (wants higer % of profits) and maybe micromanagement (be more woke) is why no DLC or BG4, and the Larian CEO is just exaggerating any issue they had to justify their exit in a professional way without burning bridges with WotC.
Sounds like they are finishing BG3 though? Intentionally delaying playing it as the only other game I played of theirs was DOS1 which was not finished when I played it.

Well I think the DnD cultural moment is failing. Add to that their disaster with OGL. Add to that retraction from post COVID. We have an attention economy and these companies continue to fail to realize that trading their loyal niche nerd core customers for a brief blip on tiktok is not a long term business strategy.
The reality is they had 3 generational events and blew their chance.

WOTC has made 20 years of incredibly dumb decisions and grown in spite of it, just based on the strength of the products themselves and having pretty good brand strategy in the bigger picture.
Their products cost, comparatively, nothing to make. They print money, margin wise. But they cost a LOT to market.
