Because we allowed serious mental illness to become a badge of honor instead of something to hide at all costs to avoid becoming unemployable. Why the fuck do people hate their customers?
I actually have a lot of clients who's businesses or approaches i don't agree with. Tribes, land trusts, cities requiring dei stuff or pushing eminent domain, etc.Why the fuck do people hate their customers?
Difference is you provide a service. Being a game designer is more akin to being an artist. The attitude you take with the people that consume your art reflect much more on you then somebody providing a service.I actually have a lot of clients who's businesses or approaches i don't agree with. Some games are certainly generating their content using them, but they don't want to tell anyone that. How do we not have any games out yet that are (somewhat) effectively using LLMs? Even if they're really limited in scope.

Petition: Prohibit publishers irrevocably disabling video games they have already sold
The government should update consumer law to prohibit publishers from disabling video games (and related game assets / features) they have already sold without recourse for customers to retain or repair them. We seek this as a statutory consumer right.petition.parliament.uk
We don't have a ton of EU people, so pushing this heavy here didn't have a point.. but still just a reminder if you are in the EU. go sign. 1m isn't really enough as invalid voters might need to be culled.

I honestly just want to play a game like Rimworld where the NPC's are all based off LLM and the longer you play, the more their "innate features" become present, or go away, etc. I want to see them learn, right? Have risk vs reward structures and more incorporated into their AI. If they adopt a religion, then they ultimately play that out on their own without much guidance. I know its coming.. but I just hate that Im getting older and by the time I find something that will really engross me - I'll be too old and ill tempered to give a damn. How do we not have any games out yet that are (somewhat) effectively using LLMs? Just playing devils advocate here. 1. I do believe we should have the option to purchase a physical copy of any software that is offered for sale online. In the case of Adobe and similar "subscription" software, that can effectively run 90% of its functions offline - then you should have the right to purchase a physical copy of it with the online features disabled.I understand the impetus, but asking the EU for additional regulations feels like inviting a vampire into your house.
I was mostly unaware of the specifics but read through a giant reddit thread about it yesterday and decided that no one discussing it had any idea of the specifics either.
So here's the ask from the petition. Feel free to point out if I'm misunderstanding.

Either software, pixels, and db entries are property or they aren't. If they aren't, then this doesn't appear to apply. If the EU decides that they are, doesn't that essentially upend the entire software industry and the concept of licenses? It make make sense in concept, but it would mean a massive shift in how modern games are made (and software too, unless they don't mind being super inconsistent).
Yes, for normal software that would be ideal, no argument there. But it's completely counter to the direction of the last couple of decades or more of software development, and basically every big software company would fight tooth and nail to prevent it. That's not to say that the EU still wouldn't do it, but it would be largely flipping the table on modern software.Just playing devils advocate here. 1. On the devils side of it - I feel like if its an online game or similar, itll dissuade or hinder companies from releasing shit. For example - if I was a company and I was getting ready to release something like "Anthem" - I dont want to have to support that shit into perpetuity and playing it offline. On that same note, playing some online games offline would effectively break, or require the complete redesign of the game to make it not be an unplayable piece of shit - incurring some large expense to do so. Whether thats at the front of development, or at the end of the games life span.

I wonder if the shit pile that will be ME4 will even make it out before Bioware is killed for good.
