After a while and seeing this video, I think the new Skate is a perfect example of what is wrong with live service games.
He basically goes on about how the game technically plays well but it quickly gets boring. Reason for that is the lack of purpose behind anything you do, and the rotation of things to do being shallow and repetitive. After so many hours it becomes apparent how the only real goal in this game is to do random shit, like whatever happens to be available, for e-bucks and coupon credits to cash in on lame cosmetics and loot boxes. It's like if you have your character setup in a way you feel satisfied with, there is literally no draw to doing anything anymore as it's all just directionless busy work.
To me that's just everything wrong with live service games, they just want you to feel a need to grind away for shit and after you have so much shit it's like nothing has any real depth or draw anymore. Doesn't help how they always seem to make these games centered around some lame open environment with a bunch of random fucks running around where there is no real purpose to them being there at all, with all the online focus making it feel both largely pointless to interact with and difficult to become immersed in.
