Overwatch and Valorant IMO have a more tight focus on what each game is suppose to fulfil. Granted, I have not played OW in a serious capacity in a while so for all I know the Meta problems are perma-baked into the game now.

That being said, Overwatch is a hero shooter with a heavier focus on finding a synergy between characters, prioritizing objective control and rallying a coordinated push.

Valorant is more focused on mechanics similar to CS/CSGO with more "modern game design."

Both are "hero shooters" but the tactics and team play are vastly different. Both games also have good performance have being made just as enshittification was slowly taking hold.

In contrast Concord and High Guard seem to suffer from having an unwanted, unholy, and overall unfocused orgy of every cash cow trend over the past decade. The market has been oversaturated with these types of games for a while now. Unless a studio is going to have a genuinely fresh take on the concept(s) that can fight the genre fatigue I can only see them fizzling out.

Holy fuck imagine having both of those on your resume.
Rian Johnson wrote and directed the Last Jedi before writing and directing his Knives Out trilogy.
David Ayer wrote and directed Fury before he went on to write and direct Suicide Squade (2016).

I can get it if a game dev makes one bad game out in their career, but two fuck-ups back to back is a bold strategy, Cotton.

I think the game has some potential, but the amount of changes that need to go in to make it appeal to a broader audience is a lot for a game that is considered "launched".

I think a 4 v 4 v 4 v4 mode would've been cool, but the maps taper down as the game progresses so you'd have to have teams eliminated completely during the match or it'd be an absolute shit show. Also performance allegedly sucks so you add in nearly 3x the characters running around it's going to be worse.

Highguard Game Awards debacle is like the Fallow chefs tossing you a hand full of these when everyone was waiting for some next level creme brulee to cap off a nice dinner.

Daniel Owen is a good dude.

Sure, the post-processing fps/quality is scummy but did you notice the horse's real life ticks and hair quality? That's what the blue haired devs focused on.

Best quote from the video: "We're hitting 69 (nice) fps."
5 seconds in that video and I'm left wondering how they never thought about how that horse is going to speedrun to a wicked case of tinnitus.

Okay and what portion of that is from Japanese companies who cannot legally layoff their own workers so they axe all foreign divisions instead.

Because the shitty devs are still there, they simply cut costs.

This is not hivemind approved.

WE think all Japanese devs are based and all American devs are goyslop.

Fall in line, soldier.

most of the layoffs in gaming in the past 2 years were from Ubisoft, EA, Microsoft, Embracer, Unity, etc. Nintendo/Sony/etc did layoffs too but a tiny fraction compared to even just someone like Microsoft.

and fuck those big companies, its like indians hiring only indians - a bunch of retarded woke fags who hate games hired more woke fags and they all created total garbage like Concord or AC "The Real Black F(l)ag" and tried to change the world by convincing everyone that fat ugly trannies are cool heroes. Everyone just said "yeah... pass" and kept playing Fortnite or CSGO and now like 60% of gamers don't give a shit about new games anymore, they just keep playing the same 3 games every week and gaming is in a death spiral because why spend $100+/mo on new games and learn new shit when you can just always play one game that is updated constantly?

Fortunately indie games will survive just fine, small budgets and a breakout hit can make a dev $100m+ - the solo dev of Schedule 1 made over $150m, in Australia, based on a drug empire game - and if thats what it takes for the game industry to wither, die, and be reborn so be it. I've pretty much switched completely from AAA games to indie/old games, when I bother to play at all. Ironically all these woke tards are fine in indie games since there are enough woke tards to buy their slop, but the audiences are tiny so no one knows about all these abominations of god.

I think the biggest elephant in the room that no one from AAA studios wants to acknowledge: Big AAA titles nowadays have inexcusable amounts of developers. Assassin's Creed Shadows is rumored to had 2000 developers at it's peak. And still they were caught with their pants down stealing art and not knowing the culture they represent (e.g. Chinese architecture in a Japan setting).

Either there is an ungodly amount of people that do nothing but read Twitter the whole day, or the project management is so fucked beyond belief that over 80% of the stuff created goes down the drain.

And then you hear bullshit excuses like "over half the developers on Shadows have never shipped a game". Yeah, but neither have the people on Expedition 33, and they did it with less than 40 people. Also, where did your senior devs go that know how to ship a game? Were they laid off because they got too expensive, or did they quit out of sheer disgust?

expedition 33 was not under 40 people in any way, just because they contracted out jobs to 1000+ people somehow make there contribution not worthy of being counted.
