X-Wing and its xpacs were legit. Same with Tie Fighter. Being a part of the badass space battles was a dream ever since I saw Star Wars in the theater.

Privateer was the only other space sim I really dove into.
I played Star Wars Squadrons with my VR headset and an xbox controller and it was mind blowing. Since you are always moving the VR didn't give me motion sickness.

Freespace 1&2 were surprisingly good in the same story based space pew genre. There’s even been a ton of work done on fan campaigns with fs2 since the engine got essentially given away.

You guys wanting space battles, star wars galaxies had a decent space game. There's a bit of old jank with it, and the ground bit is mostly jank, but it is a good time.

Look up the restoration or infinity emulator servers to get going. Restoration has the usual 9 squadrons to do that came with JTL + the ord mantell missions and some extra space missions for wookieland.

He isn’t wrong. It’s like a toddler crying they hate a food they literally have never tried before
Not really. A lot of people have been gaming their whole lives and can see bad games before trying them. I didn’t need to play concord, Highguard, etc to know it was garbage. Using your analogy it’s more like an adult seeing a turd on an plate and knowing that it will taste bad even though they haven’t tried it.

Another aspect is we're tired of game companies putting out great content that we love and then inevitably being gutted by HR, bean counters, and DEI. If Marathon was just made by some nobody company it'd just be another bad/mid/decent game that flies under the radar.

To continue with the food analogy - there are also the dishes that might be worth trying if the chef didn't oversalt the fuck out of the dish, and you're trying to tell him that adding a fuckload of salt will ruin the dish.

Yea well, people don't usually keep eating at restaurants with food they hate.

Gamers though... well

I mean his argument isn't that you see a turd but can't guess it's going to taste shit, it's that you go to the Turds & Stuff restaurant and then complain to the manager that they're serving turds even though you're not planning on eating the turds anyway and some people are perfectly fine eating shit. Like yeah it's your right but you can't expect the turd chef to actually give a shit. Or another food analogy, it's like vegan ppl complaining there's meat on the menu at the Steakhouse, no one's forcing them to eat there in the first place and realistically they don't give a shit you're not going to eat meat because you're vegan, they're not making meat for vegans to begin with.

I think it's a fair enough point with people on Internet spending way too much time complaining about stuff they're not even affected by, and to a certain extent even I do that sometimes but try to keep in check. Just look at the WoW thread for example, it's half the time just people drive-by complaining about the state of WoW even though they haven't played the game in like 5+ years and sure I get it I don't care about modern WoW and am not going to play it soon/ever again but also why would I bother whining about how gay the dragons are or how woke housing is or whatever.
