The wife and I are designing the house we're going to build on some property we bought. One of the things I'm trying to plan for is protecting from shit like this.

While other Xbox versions will benefit from FSR4.1 it appears vanilla PS5 cannot get the update for PSSR-lite and will maintain its gap with the Pro version.

I've discussed this in the Home Buying thread a bit, I think, we're talking to our builder about these issues but it is difficult (without going to someone very specialized) to find a GC and builder electrical company that knows this stuff. It is all cost / benefit on how crazy you want to get.

Is this better than Steam machine? Maybe I'll just buy this.

edit: nevermind the price is way more than a steam machine which defeats the purpose.
  • Entry-Level Models: Often feature an Intel Core Ultra 7 processor and RTX 5060/5070 graphics, with prices frequently hovering around $1,500 - $2,000.
  • Top-Tier Models: Equipped with the Intel Core Ultra 9 290HX Plus processor and an NVIDIA RTX 5080 Laptop GPU, these configurations are priced around $3,200 to $4,000 depending on regional adjustments and included memory/storage.
May as well just build my own gaming pc.

Im not into electrical shit enough to know - but when I lived with my parents back in the 90's, we had lightning eat up a bunch of shit more than once. But, knock on wood, I havent had any bad experience with lightning since. Im legitimately, now that its been brought up, wondering what changed other than my location. The lightning storms seem WAY worse now than then. Hell, you guys are even saying its roughly in the same time frame. Kind of curious if the electrical grid changed or something. That same house that we had the lightning eat up a bunch of electronics, my parents still own it and I manage it as a rental for them now - but Ive never heard them complain about lightning fucking up their shit.

Likely grid/infrastructure(like the poles and stuff, they used to be a lot more fragile and a lot of cables are underground nowadays too). As a European I can't say I've ever had a thunderstorm issue, at least not as far as I can remember. Usually it's the 4 AM "we have to turn it off and on again" thing for 10mins that happens every 3-4 years, there was one time the wind knocked an old wooden electric pole and fucked up the entire street(it was quite windy, but not amazing, the wooden pole was just old, they replaced the whole street with underground cables after that) and that's about it for the past 30 years. We also don't get tornados every year though so that helps.
