My butt here using a 24” from 2012 and a 23” that randomly came in the mail from Amazon in 2018. Sometimes wonder if I’m missing out, but I guess I’ve never felt I had a problem with my picture quality and would rather ride these things out until they die.

Nah you are actually way better off. I bought 2x Gigabyte M32U's and gaming at 4K is 100% chasing the $$$$$ dragon. You never catch it and it's only getting more expensive. One was giving me problems yesterday and my wife was trying to get me to buy a new one. She has zero understanding of money but at least she lets me pursue my gaming habit.

For me it's just too much horizontal real estate. Makes my eyes tired.

Yeah, my 4070 had a habit of periodically vomiting and causing my computer to lock up or reboot when I was using that 42" monitor at 2160p. 2x monitors at 1080 are fine. Just ordered a 1440 32" monitor, so hopefully that is a happy medium the card can handle. I will still run my apps at 1080 windowed.

Truth. I like 4k for watching shows on a TV but swapped back to 1440p for gaming.

Treat yourself to at least a 27 1440p. Samsung 27" Odyssey G5 1440p is $159 on Amazon.

Speaking of monitors, Im having a hard time focusing in on mine from arms length, both at work and at home. So went to the eye doctor and I guess my eyes are getting better (nearsighted). She said that one of my eyes improved a lot and the other slightly so there is a mismatch. Before they were the same. Like my whole life. So I told her I have a problem at work with focusing on the monitors and she prescribed me a new set of glasses just for that. Im so fucking hyped to get them this friday. She put on a test pair with her lens apparatus in her office and told me to look at monitor at her desk, and man, what a fucking difference, nice and crispy. Getting old sucks.

It certainly does suck. I'm at the point where I have three pairs: one for normal reading, one for computer distance (which I need yet another new prescription for, since over time what works at ~3' is now only sharp at around 4... another reason I play all my games with a controller so I can sit back a little further), and a pair of seamless trifocals the doctor talked me into but never actually worked well for anything but nighttime driving.

Yeah my only problem is, obviously being near sighted, so for seeing far I need them since I was a kid. I never had problems with seeing up close, but now I have to take off my glasses to see up close, like reading. This is also an age thing I guess because I never had problems seeing up close before even with my glasses/contacts on. But now this new problem presented itself about a year ago where I cant focus on the monitor at arms length. Its shit because most of my day I spend in front of a monitor either at work or gaming, lol.

I have two of the next to each other. I had a 32" and didn't care for it. I also work on my game computer at times and I use the left monitor in landscape as normal and turn right one in portrait for list and table type stuff while while drawing on the left.

Bunch of heathens in here. Ultrawide master race is the only way to go.
I had a UW but games that faked it started to piss me off. Where they just scrunched the vertical ratio to give fake ultrawide.

I bought an Alienware 32" ultrawide for Cyberpunk and it immensely increased my enjoyment in games. It was a shocking upgrade, and my jump wasn't as major. I think I went from a 27" or something.

I bought a Samsung 2k, 32" monitor with my new comp last and it seems to hit that goldilocks zone of not too big, not too small for my near sighted ass.

Us old fucks needing reading glasses after a lifetime of perfect near sight is because we are losing elasticity in those muscles that change the shape of the lens. Its feels counter intuitive because you spent your life feeling like looking at things close up was relaxing those muscles when it was in fact it was the opposite. Now it feels like your straining just to read the fine print on something. Accommodation.

I had a dell ultrawide for a while, cannot remember the model #. Gave it to the same guy I have my PS5 to. Games that are made for UW gaming are badass. Ones that are not (and there are a LOT especially old ones) you're looking at comically stretched sides or bars. Watching a movie on it that has black bars under and above the movie, now it looks like you are watching a movie minimized (black bars on sides and top/bottom). Maybe it's better now but there is a reason I bought 2-32" 4K screens , then there is this monstrosity which I dropped trying to move it.

Absolute beast , huge screen horizontally but tiny on the sides, I had buyers regret from the jump.

EDIT: Seeing a lot of 'thoughts and prayers' , Guys it's all good, I got half my $$$ back using my credit card insurance.

I got a Dell 32 or 34 curved on sale a while back, and with them because my previous monitor was a Dell on sale but I think was the 27, but was very happy with it. It really does make good big difference especially when I replayed cyberpunk and Starfield on my new pc.

My eyesight's not great I don't know if I could probably tell the difference between something fancier but for the money I've been extremely pleased. That lower 30 range seems to be about the right size for me, and if I watch movies in my office they look pretty damn good.

Ultrawide is actually perfect for movies shot in anamorphic widescreen/Cinemascope, which is most Hollywood stuff especially action movies and anything else that's supposed to look "epic". 21:9 is 2.33:1, and anamorphic ranges from 2.35 to 2.40:1. If you're getting an image that's both letterboxed and pillarboxed it's usually just a matter of switching the media player over to 'Fill' mode.

Some games can definitely be a problem but there's usually a third party fix if the devs are too lazy to patch it. UE games are notorious for it because getting it working in the engine is completely trivial and yet tons of games are released with the default aspect ratio settings that either pillarbox or crop the image (vert- when it should be hor+).
