I"m not mad, actually. Just a brief wave of melancholy I"m hardly alone in feeling on this particular holiday. Generally not brought on by other people"s celebrating, but more by how much they insist on talking about it. I"ve avoided facebook all weekend for that very reason.

There"s also the fact that since I have no car until the rental agency handles my claim tomorrow, I have to miss a concert tonight and can"t even get out of the house to just be in public somewhere. I really hate sitting at home.

Public transportation? Call a cab? Make a friend drive you like Miss Daisy? Shit...I wouldn"t let the lack of a car stop me from going to a concert, but maybe that"s just me

C"mon man.. They all have it anyway. It"s not like you can catch it twice.

So just wondering if I committed a big V-day faux pas. Jen and I had "the talk" last week and we"re a couple. She said she"d been wondering why I hadn"t brought it up before her trip, and that in her experience she generally waited for the guy to bring it up. One or two other girls have said that to me as well, yet the consensus here was to leave it for the girl. It came up in conversation the first time we got to hang out since she got back from her trip during pillow talk.

Regardless, Jen"s working evenings this week, so we agreed we"d do something on Thursday instead of Monday. I was going to get her flowers, and decided I"d just wait to give them in person on Thursday. I know chicks like getting them at work so they can rub it in to their co-workers, but she works at different departments in the hospital depending on the day, so that seemed like a pain in the ass to figure out in terms of delivery.

Should I have gotten her the flowers for the actual day? Personally I don"t think there"s much difference, but who fucking knows with chicks. I only ask out of curiosity, she hasn"t said anything.

What"s a decent bouquet worth anyways? $50-75 about right? I know she likes hibiscus flowers, whatever the fuck those are other than a target on her right kidney.

Fuck bouquets, just get a single flower or something. As phoneix said, that money is better spent elsewhere. Of course, if you"ve got it to spend it, I guess it doesn"t really matter.

"Don"t waste your money on X waste your money on Y!" If your girl wants flowers, get her flowers. If she likes hibiscus get her hibiscus. If you go to a florist, tell them what you want and they make a really nice arrangement, you get all the credit for how nice it looks even though you probably couldn"t pick out a hibiscus from a 5 flower line-up.

Apparently you can"t get those in a bouquet, you have to buy an actual potted plant. Just told the florist to throw something together, I don"t know what other flowers or fragrances she likes so fuck it, that"ll have to do.

And yes I realize that flowers are a waste of money, but I"ve never met a girl who doesn"t like getting them. It"s not like getting them is preventing me from doing something else, and besides which we"re going to stay in and make dinner anyway. Likely gonna include a cheesy coupon for a "free weekend trip" to a place of her choosing, something like that.

And a rose, whether one or a dozen, is really not the kind of message I"m trying to convey at this point. Might just be a flower to us dudes, but I"m pretty sure chicks read in to that shit.
