I just finished watching the 6th episode. It has one of my favorite early scenes of the golden crown on Viserys after he barges in on the celebration and demands a crown or he'll take his sister.

Then Daene responds that he was no Dragon. Fire doesn't hurt dragons. I really like that scene.

rofl been avoiding this thread like the plague because I didn't realize the new season hadn't started yet, then i saw an ad mentioning the mid-July start date. Godo times.

yrion is riding back to King's Landing, and visited Winterfel to tell Bran about Jon. Then encountered Lady Stark at the inn a little outside of town. She rallied the people in the inn against Tyrion to capture him when the episode ended.

Just wanted to call this out as being the first of the big three moments of colossal stupidity wherein Catelyn Stark brings ruin to her House and family. Second being when she releases Jaime Lannister, and the trifecta of retardation was completed when she assured Robb that it was completely unthinkable for Walder Frey to violate the custom of hospitality. Hell she should have stood up and started shrieking for alarm when she saw Roose had armor on and he just smirked at her, and maaaaaaaybe Robb would have made it out of there alive.

Forget the Lannisters, Catelyn Stark is the real villain of the first three books.

Going to have to say wait and see on releasing Jaime and having Brienne escort him back to KL. That's pretty much the entire source of Jaime's honorable streak, his interactions with Brienne. Brienne DID actually find and save Sansa when she was running with Theon. In a convoluted way, sending her off with Jaime has led to good things. No idea if holding Jaime would have done anything for Sansa earlier on.

Everything else spot on. Catelyn just being really stupid and fucking up royally.

eh that's mostly book commentary not TV. In the books nothing good happened, brienne doesn't rescue Sansa she's still in the vale getting raped by either little finger or harry hardyng (we won't know who's doing the raping til the next book if it's ever published) and it's a fake Arya getting raped by Ramsey in winterfell (sansa's childhood friend, you saw her season 1 but she had no speaking part). Baelish captured her during the purging of the northern forces/execution of Ned in book 1 and has been pimping her out in one of his brothels for a few books until the Lanister's needed a fake heir to buy the bolton's loyalty so he masquerades her as Arya.

Theon does end up saving her and convinces her to keep up the act but then they're all captured by Stannis along with his sister.

Stannis and his army just got obliterated, we don't know the fate of the girl or the greyjoys.

Brienne and Podrick also just got captured by lady stone heart (Undead Caitlyn, leading the remnants of the brotherhood without banners, Beric Dondarion died resurrecting Caitlyn.) And Brienne was released to go and trick Jaime into a trap so the brotherhood can kill them.

Just as well. Little finger is a bumbling idiot now on the show. 180'd when D&D decided to go off script.

Loathe the post season 6 TV series for that among other reasons.

This is a nice reminder that the TV show is doing a nice job of streamlining the story vs. the mess in the books. If you hadn't read the books you would never believe that the story has could have been more complicated but it was in the books, and the TV changes are an improvement in my opinion.

Went to the game of thrones popup bar in DC this weekend. line was literally wrapped around the block, we got there about around 330, the bar opened at 500 we got in at 630, we rotated who stood in line. the bar was typical DC faire entirely too crowded with a bunch of douches, except now they were yelling "the north remembers" every 5 minutes instead of Journey lyrics. the decorations inside were pretty cool and they had 4 different themed bars inside, one was North themed with a gate and an icewall and a giant crying tree, there was also a house of black and white themed one (the faces were celebrities masks painted white so guessing who was who was fun), there was a targ themed one with dragon decorations and finally one that was kings landing themed that seemed like just a mix match of different houses.

The drinks were around $10-15 per and had themed mugs (drinking horns and such) and were generally pretty good. overall it was a cool experience but i hate people so 4/10 waiting sucked, would not bang.

the icecream street vendor strategicaly positioned near the line had to have made like $1000 just selling bottles of water/gatorade/icecream to the people waiting for 2 hours in 90 degree DC weather.

the bar itself i have no idea how much money they are making, but its enough they only open a few months a year for random themes and then close for 2-3 months to do a makeover.

Letting Jaime go led to Rickard Karstark murdering the two Lannisters in the dungeons of Riverrun, which led to his execution, which led to the Karstarks abandoning Robb, which led to Robb needing to withdraw back into the North to regroup, which led to him getting murdered at the Red Wedding. Hell, Smalljon Umber giving Rickon to Ramsay can even be blamed on Catelyn since she is directly at fault for House Bolton being granted Winterfell and Roose being appointed Warden of the North.

Who cares if she also happened to start Jaime on his path to redemption while she was getting the entire Northern army massacred and two of her sons killed?

I've been rewatching the episodes for a week, fast forwarding anytime boring people talk to each other. I forgot how many good moments there were tho early in the show - not a whole lot to fast forward in season 1. Loved that whole scene where Dany gets her unsullied army in season 3. Skipping everything in 5 except hardhome, then full rewatch of season 6 and I'm ready!

Wonder if episodes will leak early on HBOGo or if they will all air simultaneously at 10pm EST.
